This was one of the best monologues in awhile. She didn't try too hard to be funny. Just talked about herself and her family. Felt very organic.
@zan zy and you tried to get a like, but didn't...
@zan zy, your comment original comment made it clear to pretty much everyone that you didn't have anything of value to say, but you couldn't let that, or good taste & judgement, stop you from commenting anyway.
@zan zy, my feelings are fine. You're the one that's butthurt that people liked something you didn't. Humor isn't fact based. It's opinion based. Your acting as otherwise is childish, leading me to think that you are, in fact, a child. If you're an adult or even adultish, you should just grow up. Bitch.
@zan zy, no, I did address your "point". The fact that I am correct and you are not does not mean I didn't address it. Again, very child like. I'm still not certain whether it's because you're and actual child or just an incredibly immature adult, but, in the long run, it doesn't matter. You should stop commenting about things outside of your intellectual grasp, and frankly, that may well be pretty much everything on the internet. Bitch.
@zan zy, again, YOU didn't find her funny. You don't get to decide for everyone else, and a quick scroll through the comments finds that other people did find her funny. You aren't very good at this.
I'm not familiar with her but she seems like a genuine person, which is refreshing these days.
No, it isn't. There are genuine people everywhere you just have to look out for them.
not intwrested
rweally?
as refreshing as Aquafina water
@@joshuasoto55 Yes there are genuine people everywhere. In my personal opinion she is one of them.
That was a refreshing change of pace for a monologue on SNL. Usually the host will come out and burst into a song and/ or dance, or go off into the audience or backstage. I liked that she simply came out and said a couple of humorous anecdotes and ended with a nice shout out to someone who inspired her greatly. Very nice.
As an Asian American woman this actually brought me to tears xD I love Nora and she is becoming that icon that Lucy was for her I'm so proud of her thank you thank you thank you for doing what you do
Lucy Liu is a hot babe, this lady is a liberal comedian, meaning she's not funny.
I thought what she said was heart warming and nice, but unfortunately I don't think she's a very good actress. Crazy Rich Asians is a fun movie and I think Constance Wu is fantastic. She's really talented and she does a great job in Fresh of the Boat, but Awkwafina was not good in CRA. I also saw her in Ocean's 8 and her performance there is similarly mediocre. Can't say anything about her rapping as I've never heard it and I don't really listen to rap anyway so I probably wouldn't be a good judge.
she's an industry plant, she must've done some not so flattering things for some old rich white men to get where she is today.
SuluFire same. what is up with Asian women and us guys automatically wanting to fuck the absolute shit out of em?
If life in America is so hard, why don't you just go back to China, korea or wherever you are from?
She gave one of the best performances in Crazy Rich Asians
19thHour #AsianEllen
She really did
That's like saying the best joke in The Emoji Movie was a poop joke...
She was one of the best things in the movie (which as a whole seemed like an extended ad from the Singapore tourism board with a really cliche romantic subplot.) But it was an important vehicle for making some Asian actors more recognizable. I certainly want to see Awkwafina do a lot more stuff in comedy.
Love this girl.
I watched her in Ocean’s Eight and I absolutely LOVED her performance. Hilarious! I wish her well.
lol someone actually watched that shit movie?!
I loved that movie tbh she was so great
She's so good. Obviously an understatement.
I never laughed once and was tempted to turn it off. She should stick to acting it cant be as bad as that.
@@stephenobrien5909 no her acting is worse than her comedy
Omg miss mina
@@stephenobrien5909 well, I've got bad news for you...
OMG MISS MINA!!!! I used to watch your videos! Like ten years ago!
That Lucy Liu story hit me hard
r u also a proud asian american woman?
She does look like Lucy Liu. I think this type of Asian women are more likely to make it in Hollywood?
@@lepetitchat123 she doesn't look a god damn thing like lucy liu
Pro-life or birth is Pro-suffering Get new glasses. They look nothing alike
@@lepetitchat123 huh?????
I'm crying 😭 Thank you Awkwafina! I love the tribute to her New York family and idol Lucy Liu. Asian Americans are in the audience and we love seeing you on stage!
Celebrate! you are right! people don't want cultures to be proud but it's truth to love the representation past the stereotypes! i'm excited for you
@4Knewt You made a good moment even better for me! Thanks so much for the positivity! Great to know someone like you is in the audience too. :)
One extremely talented young person -- love you both, Awkwafina, and Lucy Liu! Thanks, SNL!
If you haven't watched "CRA," please do -- but she also does a star turn in the star-loaded "Ocean's 8," that I absolutely loved -- beautifully written, superbly acted (Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Awkwafina.. what's not to like?). Ocean's 8 is perfectly done Entertainment, a sugar-free, zero-calorie confection that no one who is weighed down with real-world cares should miss! You rock, Sisters! Family, all of us, women & decent men together!
She is!
Another comment that did not age well
As a black woman this is so great to see! Reminds me of when Kerry Washington hosted. Now lets talk about getting some asian men and women on the SNL cast
Jessica Smith agree
Jessica Smith Kerry Washington was one of the best guests ever.
Yesss
You are very sweet!
Sandra oh. I thought of her as Lucy lue at first.
You know what's depressing? In this monologue, she talks about her grandma, and her acceptance speech recently for the Golden Globes talks about her passing :(.
Her mother passed, her grandmother is very much alive as of December 2020
Gah don't say that, Grandma Fina still being a bad ass even riding Electric Kick Scooters. Sadly it was her mother who passed away long time ago when she was a child. That's messed up.
She would be so proud of Awkwafina, she’s representing Asian Americans and is the third host of Saturday Night Live to be Asian
Damn, Awkwafina's suit is on POINT! And shame on SNL for taking EIGHTEEN YEARS to get another Asian American person to host, jfc.
gec cec she keeps it real
So? What is your point? Also, you are incorrect about no Asians or females. Should we have 50% muslims on the show too? Or not be racist and pick people based on merit not the color of their skin or genitalia.
David he meant Asian AND female, there just haven’t been any, it’s nothing to complain over but it isn’t something that is good eithrr
@@tastynicecat1677 Why isn't it good? They choose whoever's hot at the moment. It has *nothing* to do with race.
Yeah I was about to call out her fire suit too
“I was going to come out as a big water bottle but I someone already did that last week”. That’s some funny shit that barley got a laugh from the audience.
Because it wasn't funny
That's because the audience thought, "After months waiting, We finally get tickets to see SNL Live and we have no idea who these people are."
I thought it was funny and clever, and it answered my question, is that a real name?
Jennifer Smith months waiting? Most of these people were on the walk on line for 2 days at most. Only a small percent of the audience had tickets from beforehand
delivery
As an Asian American woman, her shout out to Lucy has me crying. Thank you for opening more doors for other Asian Women to walk thru, Awkwafina. The media representation you've brought the last few years has been so important.
Look for the trailer for 3 Needles on YT. I know the man who made it...
She is all confidence, love her ❤️
Yeah, she is so confident that she can't use her real name!..
greenspan11111 madonna, emma stone, cher, natalie wood, meg ryan, tina fey. they all use stage names are they not confident?
@eli hauser Madonna, Emma Stone, Cher, Meg Ryan, Tina Fey are all using their real names in one way or another (short or Anglicized versions of them), they are not taking bottled spring water brands as their stage or real life names!..
In the case of Natalie Wood, she kept her first name and changed her surname Zakharenko to Wood for obvious reasons!..
greenspan11111 ok even so it’s not like she’s hiding her name, and two, she started as a rapper, and purposely chose the dumbest rapper name she could think of, and it just stuck.
greenspan11111 maybe this is a better list- lady gaga snoop dog jay-z tupac the notorious BIG childish gambino dr dre lil pump lil peep and what about xxx whatever his name
Lmao her Trump impression is on point 👌
Emily Eileen No kidding! She pulled it off better than I ever expected!
Trump still got ya boy Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS!! Remember, MAGA!
It actually was an impression of her father NOT Trump, her family is from NYC. So it was a very clever impression, her father NOT Trump BUT sounding eerily like Trump, cuz... you know... they are both old and from New York.
@@insidejah9293 brah they’re not stupid . They know that they’re just pointing it out.
@@insidejah9293 it was of trump you dimwit, her dad may have an accent but no one talks like that
I cried when she talked about Lucy Liu! Dreams come true!

One of the best monologues I've heard! Saw her in Jumanji for the first time and thought how incredible she is to be able to imitate Danny Devito!!!! Hope she has a very successful career (also love her voice!!)
So proud that she hosted SNL❤️
YES! This woman is a badass. LOVE HER!!!!! ❤❤❤
I loved her in Crazy Rich Asians
She is the real deal.
No facade and really talented.
Lucy Liu will FOREVER be one of my faves! What an awesome tribute to her.
Man, good for her. I was in high school when Lucy Lu Hosted Snl.
Such a genuine monologue, I could feel all her emotions.
UGH IM CRYING thank you Awkwafina for opening even more doors for us Asian American women ❤️❤️❤️
Idk who she is bit shes annoying as shit why dont u let Lucy represent you
I think you should thank black people or you wouldn’t even be here in America. Yes I said it and I’m white!
First time I've ever seen this kid, and I think she's awesome. I should watch her movie.
She's the reason to watch the movie. And I loved the film. But she totally stole the show!
don't know her, but she's made a good first impression on me
Awkwafina, you should have your own show! You are funny, relatable, and intelligent!
It should not take 18 years for another Asian American Women to host SNL!!! And only the 5th Asian American to host. I am appalled and disappointed.
Please don't act like most black people
There’s way more Latinos around and we get way less love than the Asians
Rudy The Writer I’m sorry that’s just not true there are plenty of Latino entertainers from actors to musicians that everyone could name and love. Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Shakira , Sofia Vergara, George Lopez, Selena Gomez , Eva Mendez , Eva Longoria , Antonio benderez, Penelope Cruz, the list goes on... that level of exposure or recognition is not even close for Asians.
Francis Ronald Go boy please
You do realize Asians have only made up 3% of the population and their parents steer them away from the arts that doesn't include piano lessons. It's not racist if they don't become involved in entertainment industries like African and Caucasians.
She looks amazing! That outfit is on point.
Great monologue. She's so lovely and talented. Shame the writing in this episode's sketches is awful. Hope she comes back though!
The writing wasn't bad
It was, the sketches were weak, you could even see it affecting the performances of the cast, which is a shame as they do their best, but you can only go so far with a weak script. I'm not a scriptwriter, or a writer for that matter, but the writers can and have done better. To be fair to them though, the mood regarding what happened with Kavanaugh certainly made the audience feel a little flat.
Yeah, I wouldn’t say it was “awful,” but I just was not ready to laugh about the Kavanaugh appointment yet. I think that cold open set the tone for the show. I did like the dance battle and the Presidential text alert sketches, though.
Awkwafina was great but I only liked the monologue and the Mikey/Alex Trump brothers sketch this week. That was about it. I'm a yuggge fan too. But I think the writing gradually declined after the election. The last solid episode was Sam Rockwell. Every sketch was funny. Loved it!
SNL is just awful, period! Stop watching.
"18 years later I am hosting the show"
7 Train announcements " Next stop is Manhattan... hope you brought money!" "This is Corona Plaza... this is not where the beer is made."
Comedy GOLD!
She's so good. Obviously an understatement.
Awkwafina is stunning!!!! happy, she is having a good year!!!
I like that she made her dreams come true I'm motivated by her this was strong 💪
Love her. She's very grounded and genuine.
So fun and humble :)
Shes frigging hilarious! Love her.
You go girl! I haven’t even watched it yet!
She so humble. I love it.
Mark N. c'mon, can you please post after watching this clip? it's not even 4 minutes.
also, you the same Mark N. from Nasenbluten? one of my childhood heros.
@Mark N. Chill
I love awkwafina I can't wait to see more of her projects in the future
love her SO much & i love how she’s bringing awareness to asian representation every big platform she gets.
Nichole Manan Oh, shut up. People have been “aware” of Asians for thousands of years.
"Being Aware" of Asians vs seeing Asians get their "time to shine" are 2 different things.
Im Asian... I don't feel the need for representation. I don't know any Asian who complained about that(I'm sure there are some who to that position). However, I'm happy for the success of other people.
I'm a Korean-Canadian, and I friggin love you for the representation you've helped give Asian-Americans in cinema. Hope I get to meet you someday Awkwafina
my tears.thank you Awkwafina
i'm super excited bcus it shows its ok to want representation of your culture. people are quick to say it's racist to even be excited that a culture is represented. that's not racism. I'm happy to see the love past the stereotype and it brings awareness. i'll go see crazy rich asians now. I didn't know what it was about. i'm here for the love
i really loved this. it was funny but also necessarily real. great job awkwafina!
Crazy hot Asian. Very talented.
She seems very down to earth. Very cool.
Imagine if this aired on March 6, 2021 and Awkwafina was the host and giving the opening monologue was Sisu from Raya and the Last Dragon.
So proud of Nora and this historic moment. Long time fan of hers!
2nd Asian actresses and comedians on SNL. Bravo!
She's so gorgeous 😍
Awww...how touching. I got teary eyed. You go, girl!! :)
I'm pretty sure she was holding back some tears. Love her.
YES AWKWAFINA IS AMAZING! Such a talent!!!
I love Awkwafina! Also, she's definitely American since she pronounces it Lucy Loo instead of Liu :P
An inspiration!!!
She’s so amazing
Lucy Liu, also from Queens. Love her and Awkwafina. 2 beautiful girls from 👑 s
Holy shit Awkwafina did SNL?? My favourite Spotify find.
I've been a fan of hers for a few years now. Great to see her getting the attention she deserves!
Such a funny and heartfelt monologue. My new crush did not disappoint last night. I'm definitely looking forward to the next time she hosts.
So lovely and naturally funny
Wei Chen agreed
I cried watching the end of this. I like her so much
So this wasn't the best SNL, and I feel kind of bad for Awkwafina. The monologue was fine (the jokes weren't particularly funny, but the points she made were salient and respectful), but she seemed nervous in some of the skits and the cast/writers didn't do her any favors either. Most of the skits were just flat. I'm not trying to be a hater but Leslie Jones is not improving and every time she blows a line, it's extra-distracting because we've almost been trained to expect it. Which is weird because I have seen some skits where she really did nail it.
But back to Awkwafina, I hope she stays grounded and doesn't get caught up in herself. She's extremely likable and I'd like to see her host again in the future.
Dang. A+ commentary.
GordonGEICO ur critique is spot on.👍🏻
mind showing us your credentials before saying a highly trained actress has been blowing lines?
lol leslie jones always messes up her lines or starts laughing
I agree ..leslie isn't funny!!
Congrats for winning the GG in a leading actress role and being the first Asian female ABOUT FREAKING TIME!!!!
Yo Awkwafina has some stage presence! Mah gurl!! SNL monologues now have to have some kind of other schtick to them, like a song or some prerecorded shit or the other cast members have to come out, so it’s great to see just a pure, unadulterated monologue. She did better than Jennifer Lawrence, I think.
hipnhappenin she’s a natural
Wow great. One of the best monologues ever. She is so down to earth.
"We have a great show.... Travis Scott is here."
Funny and powerful monologue. I hope she can be a role model as Lucy was to her. (also I can't stop hearing friccking Natasha Lyonne as she speaks -- whom I deeply admire as well btw :)

One thing these comments prove is people in this country have no clue what talent is and will praise anybody overrated 🤦🤦🤦
I couldn't agree more, I feel like YT pins all the positive comments to the top. That's why I always filter my comments to NEW.
@@themanwhosoldtheworld2125 Man I thought I was the only who did that 😄
It seems that's what they do but it also seems like most of the positive comments are people who work for YT or robots 🤖
I guess you're the arbiter of talent and the gatekeeper of taste?
To me she is funny in a self-deprecating Jerry Lewis slapstick way.
I like this monologue. Basically nothing made me laugh this episode, no one did anything funny to me, but this monologue has actual heart in it.
Yay! Second asian actor to be on snl! Cant wait to see the first asian cast member!
Chance Holton Don't think there's only two. Jackie Chan hosted the show before.
Joe Chen Interesting on how you eagerly specifying the difference between Asian and Asian-Americans. Jackie Chan is not an Asian-American but his rare success as an Asian here in the West benefited community in general, in which Asian-Americans are part of it. This even applies to Crazy Rich Asian itself, Henry Golding is British, with Michelle Yeoh and Ronny Cheung both from Malaysia. It's about broadening opportunities of all Asian actors/actresses in the West, not just Asian-Americans.
Thank you. I forgot about jackie. The point im making is that i would like to see more asian actors in hollywood with more roles than just martial arts films.
American freaking SNL. LOVE HER
