Scratching my head about how much time I wasted, it was the coil for me, replaced after your video, thanks, I guess at least everything else got a real good going through. 👍
When changing coil packs make sure to rotate the magnets one side is slightly wider so rotate 360 degrees as not to have binding issues when snugging up.
I’ve heard from a lot of saw shops complaining the new moderne of saws and weed eaters the ignition will burn up if you pull the starter without it connected to the plug. Just how did a weed eater that hasn’t been used develop electrical problems hanging on a wall if that’s all it takes all of the equipment at the stores would be bad wouldn’t they
Stihl fs 130 bike handle trimmer. Very hard to start. Tried everything. Problem was that throttle cable had stretched so much that when start position for trigger was engaged there was virtually no opening of carb. Only adjustment i found is a ratcheting slide in handle accessed in small rectangular opening on top of handle. Small screwdriver pushed in and pried away from safety handle will tighten it up by moving cable shroud. Carefully take handle apart to see what i am talking about. 1-2 pull starts now. I ordered new cable.
You need fuel and air in correct proportions, spark at the correct timing, and compression. Used about 4 hrs. and has a bad coil. That’s why I buy Echo instead. I am only on my second one in 25 years. No valves to adjust either. That’s not acceptable for a supposedly “pro” grade machine Stihl!
@@happyhusker1163 It is a great saw. The only thing is the exhaust deflector needs to be opened up more. The are really choked up from the factory. Not much louder and a lot more power.
I was waiting for you to test for spark again after having disconnected the kill switch, no? I thought that was what you did to check it it's the coil/magnet or not...And that there's no need to disassemble the switch area (nightmare to get pesky springs back in!). I've just received a new coil (slow boat from China). Two wires -- black, and b/w, like your two wires. I presume one connects to switch and the other to ground (old one must just have grounded through bolt). Does it make a difference which goes where? I presume b/w is to switch. Thank you.
"The coil" is an electromagnet is it? It's a coil of copper wire around a magnet which is positioned close to the big finned metal fly wheel (sorry, don't know the technical term!) which is turned by pulling the starter cord. This in turn generates the current for the spark plug. & It looks like you just bolted off the old one to have it tested & bolted on a replacement? I am pretty well experienced with the use of 2-stroke garden machinery but not so much in diagnosing & repairing anything more than a worn out spark plug or pull cord. This video was very informative, great job showing the diagnostic procedure with disconnecting the earth connections on the coil. I will try that next. Then a new plug (the old one sparks but very very weakly), I know my fuel is good as it's fresh. So maybe I'm looking at getting a new coil.
Thanks for the video. I’m about to try this because I had a feeling about the coil and when I took apart my throttle handle, I’ve noticed that one of the wires look like it was damaged I’m about 90% sure that is my problem
got spark. tested spark plug on cylinder head and sprayed engine starter in carb put plug back in,and cylinder didnt start ,.not even a kick.could it be ignition timing has been put out.
My 25yr old Ryobi 2 stroke won't start. It was smoking for a minute or so before it stopped on a hot day and for months wouldn't't keep turning over if your finger left the throttle. Needed to give it 100% gas to cut
I have a few of these style of trimmers I gad bought from a guy, none ran. Did the same thing and turns out most had a spark issue, was able to salvage 6/10 of those trimmers. Just had to move parts around on them.
Devin, I have a Stihl mini tiller with the same engine you are working with here and I can not get it to even fire. I can rebuild this entire engine by myself and have no hesitations as far as my ability to do it correctly. I rebuilt the carburetor and it was spotless on the inside, not one spec of dirt or debris. I am getting somewhere around 140 PSI compression. I am getting a very strong spark and the spark plug is brand new and putting out a dark blue spark. I even took the flywheel off to make sure the shear pin was not sheared off and the timing being the culprit and no such luck. I've shot carb cleaner gas and brake cleaner in the carb and once again can not even get it to fire. I tried brand new Stihl 2 cycle fuel from a Stihl dealer and still nothing. The primer bulb is working properly and filling the chamber as it should. I think I about covered everything. Got any ideas?
Does it run if you shoot starting fluid down the carb? If it runs with a shot of starting fluid, you have a fuel issue. You have compression and spark, lacking air or fuel. I think it would be pretty impossible to not get air so I blame fuel at the carb.
Check the clearance of the valves! Some time the spark plug it’s had spark when you testing out side, but! It’s won’t get fire 🔥 in the chamber. happens a lot with (Champions) brand. I have been there. .
