Three days after he received his green card, my immigrant spouse called and told me my "services were no longer required in his life". There are no fail safes in place in the USCIS for US citizen marrisge scam victims. Other immigration attorneys I've watched just say "well, you need to be careful" which implies you weren't. These scammers are con men and con women. And they have alot of help in the art of the con. You wont know they're just using you until they're ready for you to know. Thank you for being the one immigration attorney who doesn't victim shame. Marriage scam victims were conned... Con artists are thieves and should be viewed and treated as such by our immigration system.
Thank you for sharing your experience, and I’m truly sorry to hear about what you went through. It’s heartbreaking when someone misuses the trust that comes with marriage, especially in the context of immigration. You’re right-there are currently no fail-safes in place within USCIS to protect U.S. citizens from marriage scams, and the general advice given can often feel dismissive. It's important for us as immigration professionals to acknowledge the complexities of these situations without placing blame on the victims. Con artists indeed employ sophisticated tactics that can make it incredibly difficult to identify their true intentions until it’s too late. I appreciate your kind words and am committed to advocating for and supporting those affected by these situations. Your voice is vital in bringing awareness to this issue, and I hope that by sharing your story, we can work towards better protections for victims in the future. Thank you for your engagement!
