    im a tank main, but thats mostly faded into a doom main that can flex. The last time i had fun playing a more "main tank" type tank was rein meta, and ram meta before it. The thing ive picked up from this is that with current system, unless youre playing an overtuned tank, it just feels like you have to clean up everyone elses mistakes while also gaining space, getting picks and maintaining pressure, and it just doesnt feel fun to spend the game trying to everyones momma

    Tank swapping is needed a lot in gold matches right now, and the other thing is that support is so strong, that support has to be taken out first because they can keep tanks alive indefinitely. You can have overwhelming damage out put and the supports can just heal through it. Burst damage is what the main dps role is now.

    The worst part about tanking right now is that it's basically become a scapegoat. Every mistake you make, even the tiniest ones, will end up being blown out of proportion. Now that there's only 1 tank, it's easier to blame the big guy who made a small mistake rather than blame the DPS who is always standing in the open for some odd reason. You could be hard carrying your team as tank and they'll still have the audacity to blame you because "you weren't creating space".
    I doubt those guys even know what "creating space" even means.

    It feels like the major issue now that there is one tank is that they can be countered too hard by tank, dps, or healer counterswaps. Tanks don’t need to be the strongest role in the game but they probably need to be to least counterable because it’s so annoying having to swap constantly to get any impact when their whole team counters you.

    I used to play tank a lot, now that there's only one spot, you don't have the liberty that tanks had before. The main problem is that usually you have to keep counterpicking the tank that couters your enemy tank, turning the whole experience (as some people say) into an infinite rock paper scissors game. The only solutions that I think might work are making 6v6 come back (which is very unlikely to happen, since the whole overwatch 2 "new features" are that and the pve) or making the tanks very simillar (in terms of damage and health) aiming to make the players able to pick whatever they want since the only "advantages" between tanks would be their abilities (that should be balanced a little bit too to "not counter at all" the other tanks). That way tank picking would be based more on how does the team plan to play (if they have to defend or attack) or to couter the enemy dps instead of the enemy tank.
    In conclusion, the tank experience should feel like playing dps, by enabling players to create their own playstyle and decide which tanks they want to main without the barriers of constant counterpicking (I mean, counterpicking is not bad, but doing it all the time/constantly is frustrating because sometimes you just want to play your favourite hero and suddenly you have to change because otherwise would end up throwing the game).

  • @ccc38cc
    @ccc38cc 11 месяцев назад +1

    I think you summed up the point : tank role has way too much pressure. You have so much things to carry to just "play", where other roles are way more simple and fun.
    If you don't take space, you're useless. If you don't peel, you're selfish. If you don't do damage, well tank diff. If you die too much, you're feeding. Oh, you have to be the vocal lead also. The thing is you are not allowed any mistake because no one on the team is there to compensate.
    As a main tank myself I feel the teamates also became a lot more salty against tank role because they also didn't evolve their gameplay to only one tank.
    On the other hand I don't know how they can makes things better for the role, going back to 2-2-2 isn't the solution to me.
    Anyway, good video !

      Worst part is when someone picks a character that counters you and you have to switch or your team gets mad because apparently the fact a reaper or a symmetra is allowed to waltz in front of my entire team and either charge up on my barrier or shoot me in the back is solely my fault like there isn’t 4 different people watching them do it
      I get it, sym counters sigma pretty damn hard but when it is a 4v5 because the enemy tank left I think you can spare some resources to also pitch in to dealing with the problem

    I would dps because when you tell them to switch to a different character they just ignore you or talk crap in chat box and don’t switch when you lost the game, healers, they are also the one who blame for not protecting them while tank and dps is take the heavy load of damage from the enemy and they healer only one person but when ask for heals your already dead and ignore your death.
    This is my opinion, but don’t take it seriously, I been trying to play tank as veteran overwatch player and I know some dps and healer are not like this but they need to fix this issue because I feel the tank role is obsolete and need some changes and fixes.

    Butchering an entire tank character (Roadhog) and having Ana and zen hijack the game rendering tanks useless is part of the reason. Also orisa meta makes playing every other tank into her unfun. Hanzo also is way to strong against the entire roster. He shreds tanks with storm arrow, has widow ult on cool down, and can pretty much escape whenever he wants.

    The Tank role is perfectly fine as is, it's just a fundamental misunderstanding of HOW the Tank role is played that may be inferfering with people's enjoyment of the role, and hopefully I, a very long time Tank main, can help. The problem lies in the "protecting your team" aspect.
    You see, a truly GOOD Tank in Overwatch 2 does NOT play back and protect their supports directly. Instead, what they do is they play selfishly. This doesn't make sense at first, but just try it and you'll find you get good results. You can't take space without making selfish plays because you HAVE to be applying pressure to the objective. If your teammates can't hold their own while you do your job, that's not your goddamned problem.
    Another important thing is peel timing. Although I said you should play selfishly, there are times when peeling is needed. Mainly if someone walks into your backrow with an ult, but also if your supports/dps have a critical ult that could win the fight, then absolutely peel.
    I'm more than willing to answer any questions btw

    The main problem i have with tank is theres heros that straight up counter the entite role or even simply just make the entire role dreadful, such as sombra, mei, sym, junkrat, bastion, torb, pharah and even a good echo can all make your time on tabk dreadful and thats almost half the dps roster, the flyers typically arent a prob unless theyre mercy pocketed but tank used to be really fun and then they slowly buffed sym, torb, bastion, mei and all these heros, now torb can nuke most tanks inna single use of his overload, mei can slow you, trap you and all sorts of things, sombra just hacks you non stop and while its not a massive hinder, its not fun because if you go after her you know you cant actually kill her and bastion is just straight up broken, sym literally doesnt die now to half the tanks and now they giga buffed orisa so anytime the enemy tank goes orisa you almost feel you gotta also swap orisa whicu is making it feel like you have 1 choice as tank, which would be fine if it wasnt the most boring tank, like rein is my fav and you cant even play em into orisa, you could have a team of golds into bronze and you being rein into orisa would shift this fight so drastically i think the bronze would beat the golds, thats how unbalanced that match up is so picking rein even as a gold tank is just not feasible.

    Hey, Omnic Post. I've an idea below for how things could potentially make the game more fun to play if you're interested.
    As a general thing, I like playing all roles, but the current balance makes it a little difficult and frustrating at times. From my experience, it can be hard to enjoy playing Tank if I feel forced to switch to a different tank whenever I'm unable to fight against the enemy tank or if a certain Damage hero is too hard to catch. As an example, whenever I play Reinhardt, it can be difficult to fight against a Doomfist depending on the player's experience or a Symmetra (mostly because her current kit is not very fun to fight against and I'd still like her to be a Support instead). Another example, sometimes no matter what heroes my team and I can play, we're unable to get through to the point if the enemy's Damage heroes are doing double sniper with Widow and Hanzo/Ashe, or double "Controllers" as I call them, with Bastion and Mei.
    Personally, one of two things I would love see done is adjusting the Tanks so that all of them fit into the 5v5 format and instead of certain heroes being counters to others, you can just enjoy playing the Tank you want to play based on their abilities/movement, even if it ends up being a losing match. The other thing I would do is add something I call "styles" to the roles so that not only can heroes be more organized in the select screen but that there's not two of the same type of heroes being used and can (hopefully) encourage team creativity. In the Damage role for example, Widow, Hanzo and Ashe are all "Snipers" (you know why). Certain heroes like Bastion, Junkrat and Mei are "Controllers" (due to their CC/AOE abilities). Heroes like Sojourn and Solder are "Initiators" (for their main weapon damage potential), and Genji, Reaper, Sombra and Tracer are all "Infiltrators" (flankers).
    There's no guarantee that this would work, but I feel that this could potentially make the game more enjoyable. What are your thoughts on these ideas?

    the tank meta is so awful right now. I'm usually pretty flexible with who i play on tank, my only real dark spots being ball, doom, and Zarya. there are so many times where i want to play an actually fun tank like junker queen or reinhardt but just can't because of how much the meta favors the characters that flat out counter those characters and even if i do get the chance to play them it's only a matter of time before the enemy tank swaps to a counter for me which in turn basically forces me to counter swap in order to actually win, and that's not even mentioning the teammates that just make stupid decisions just to flaunt their ego some more

    I don't really see much of the points. I'd say hog is the only tank that isn't fit for 5v5 with his current kit. Other tanks can be (and have been) either all-round good tanks or especially strong in their niche without feeling super oppressive. Also the complaints about dps hero picks are just a little silly to me. You could just spin it around and say it's annoying to play with tanks who always pick rein. If you aren't willing to swap to swap for the team, you can't expect them to do it for you. Then your complaints about supports seem to be rooted in the misunderstanding of the role that stems from OW1. Supports need to do damage in OW2. With heroes like baptiste and illari doing very high damage, it's like playing a man down if they aren't doing damage. Especially in the current meta, supports are usually supposed to be taking off-angles.

    I have always been a "Flex" main. Even before role q I used to wait until everyone had chosen and I would pick what we were lacking. That way I ended up playing a ton of supports but now it's the opposite. I get tank or DPS and occasionally support.
    Also as a Tank you are the easiest to blame. Even when it's not tour fault you get blamed a lot

    It’s just mobility Creep every new hero has a movement ability and now there is 3 immortality abilities on support so if you play correctly as tank you can’t do anything when they are life gripped of suzu then those two supports can just run away like nothing happened while you can’t secure a kill they are limiting the complexity of the game by dumbing it down with invincibility why risking a resurrect with mercy when Kirko can just go in and prevent the misplay anyway. Only reason in my opinion they went to 5V5 is because they couldn’t control the DPS queue times in overwatch 1 in good and play they were 15 minutes plus easily which got me to play tank but now I can’t play overwatch I am playing rock paper scissors with the other tank and hoping i pick correctly for the first ultimate but it doesn’t matter because you get rewarded for changing with the keeping of ult charge. So backwards what they are doing with balance and the ranked system as a whole is unrewarding so why would I play 4 more games to win if I have already lost 7/8 and know I’m not going up .
    Sorry for the little rant love the game but it’s just a love hate relationship.

    I think its all heal creep, if the enemy supports are better than yours there is nothing you can do as tank to ever kill anyone. theyre either too fast or they just get sustain from supports. I understand you should be able to save your teammates as support but just putting in the bare minimum and being able to counter entire ultimates with a cooldown is too much.

    • @ValidEarYT
      @ValidEarYT 11 месяцев назад

      Playing with trash supports is the reason I stopped playing tank. But as a support main the same goes for when you have an incompetent tank. You’ll lose in both scenarios but you can at least have fun as support and get a few kills while staying alive with their sustain but as a tank you will not have fun if your supports suck.
      But the heal creep is nonexistent, coming from a support main. It doesn’t matter how much your supports heal if they can’t stay alive/contribute to the fight in utility, damage, or forcing enemies off of positions. My team one a match against the enemy team who had over 40k healing as Lifeweaver/Mercy, compared to our 15k healing as Moira/Lucio. Difference is we both died around 4-5 times the whole match while the mercy and Lifeweaver both died over 14 times so we were able to contribute more to team fights as we were alive longer. It’s not about healing numbers as much as it’s about healing at the right time to save a teammate from dying.

    • @lilspacegecko
      @lilspacegecko 11 месяцев назад

      @@ValidEarYT first off I do think heal creep is real because healing was mostly unchanged in the move from 6v6 to 5v5, as well as there being characters like lifeweaver whose healing numbers have been pumped super high, and brig who can stop an OWL dive from killing your ana. But the other point is that it just isnt fun to see a perfectly tracked tracer clip or a perfectly executed juggle be completely negated by one character holding down one button. While yes better target priority and resource management will still allow you to win fights even against a rly strong backline with a ton of healing output, its just not as fun as feeling your mechanics matter. Like you said, tank isnt fun right now even if you could argue its about as impactful as support, I think this is the reason

    • @kevingriffith6011
      @kevingriffith6011 11 месяцев назад

      It would solve all the problems except queue times, which it would make *way worse*. The game already struggles to find ONE tank to play with, let alone two. The fact that 6v6 overwatch is built on a 30/30/30 split of players when we all know 80% of players want to play DPS because they're afraid of being responsible for anyone but themselves is just unwise... and hell, the queue times are pretty atrocious in 5v5, too.

    ive have already ranted about the new 5v5 model of ow2 but i would like to say that there are solutions if they are willing to listen they could implement a off tank that helps a support player instead of going on crazy flank that would be his job as a role aka off tank and supports basically have everything to survive best role passive and best survivablity we dont need two healers per team just a observation.

    • @kevingriffith6011
      @kevingriffith6011 11 месяцев назад

      I don't think that's the right decision, really. Most of the supports just aren't built to solo heal. Mercy, Lucio, Zen and Brig don't have the healing output necessary to manage a whole team, Zen (Again), Ana and Baptiste are too immobile to keep up with a divided team, and Moira's range is prohibitive when it comes down to managing split off teammates. (You try healing a Widowmaker without spending a cooldown or leaving your team as Moira)... and the same reason the tanks need an offtank exists for supports: without a second support to share the burden with, your support would have to remain essentially glued to the tank so that the tank can do their job.
      Ultimately the problem with Overwatch right now is that they've built themselves into a corner. The vast majority of players want to play DPS because they're afraid of being responsible for anyone but themselves, and yet the game demands a 20%/40%/40% split of players, which just isn't realistic. Queue times were the entire reason we lost one tank in the transition, and we're getting back into that neighborhood again.

      @@thisaintbrandon If you're OK with doubling the queue times, that's probably a good idea. As the video said, Tank is the current queue bottleneck in Overwatch. Most games are being held up by needing *one* tank, much less having to wait for a second one of the appropriate MMR.

    I don't think the Solution is bringing back 6v6. 5v5 is a much better format imo. I will say that just buffing tanks won't solve the issue either, more hp, more armor, while it could help in the short term the long term is a much bigger issue. Numbers could be lowered on DPS and support, but that is also a slippery slope. It's a tough decision for the dev team, but people smarter and better versed in balance can figure that out.
