That is such a true and great statement and I would bet you are correct that Neil felt that way, but I think Neil would also speak his mind and not be afraid of saying something a little or even a lot "controversial". I don't think he relished being controversial for the sake of being controversial unless there was a serious point he would be trying to make. RIP Mr. Peart
Neil distanced himself from all the Ayn Rand stuff later on, as he got older. He basically attributed it to young angst. Neil, as any true intellectual should, changed his thoughts and beliefs as he matured and became more informed.
Neil laugh's at more than one of Bill Maher's jokes. The Rick James Bible joke in the previous " part one video" and at the jokes about drunks at about the 30 second mark of this video. I my self am a drunk . I go to Bars. Alcoholic's go to meetings!🍻🥃🥂🍷🍸
@evilsugar2525 You may know this already or you may not care but if you have Realplayer you can just pass your mouse over the video here in youtube and it will give you the option to download the videos. I intend to leave these up but you never know when they may get blocked or muted because of all the MTV/VH1/Muchmusic/network, etc. content in them. Glad you're enjoying them!
@evilsugar2525 Yeah, I was documenting everything on a TRF thread that I was posting here for a while but I ran into some technical hurdles and stopped for a bit. I intended to go back soon and update the few clips I've added and I've still got more to go. I'll put up more tomorrow. The whole watermark thing is really bugging me just like I know it's bugging everyone else but I'll figure something out. You can download what you want from youtube instead of keeping bookmarks if you want.
@xxxx15us i'm watching neil on wallin right now... awesome. i know everyone appreciates it. yeah, the watermark is a pain - but don't let perfect be the enemy of the good. i was saving everything to a favorites list until i realized i could just subscribe to your channel. duh. :)
What a colossal waste of time. Neil was so gracious and humble. It was nice to see how he handled this awkward situation. Bill bloviates too much back then and I believe squandered his guest’s time. I used to think his show was so good back then😆
haha I don't think so. My mom was at that concert in the rain and it was like a religious experience. Diana is a diva however and probably has a flare for the dramatic plus her ghost writer sounds like someone who writes dramatic or romantic novels moonlighting as a biographer. Also her husband did climb mountains and died in a climbing accident in 2004, so while the comparison in the book was dramatic he it was true...
To observers, being drunk is funny. Being a drunk is not. That's the distinction. And in entertainment, which is what they're talking about, drunk behavior is funny. If we can't make the distinction between entertainment and life, that's on us.
People I like Neil Peart as much as anyone but what do you want Bill to do get on his knees and blow him when he makes a point. Maher doesn't have the same hero worship complex that you have, ironically Neil would be more uncomfortable around you than Maher
how funny that bill says celebrities shouldnt wrte books and Neil has written 5 now. How is a celebrity writing a book ie Neil writing Ghost Rider (One of the best books Ive Read) any different than Bill doing his documentary Religulous?
definition of celebrity is a famous or well known person...so actually while you are correct in saying he is a musician who is famous, you are incorrect in saying he is not a celebrity. So no, there is no difference.
coreeeey420 He was making fun of Ross talking about performing? Thanks for telling me because i totally missed that. i guess I was too busy laughing at him making fun of her writing.
@@Driven2Beers More Now Again was her third book. It's about how after Prozac Nation came out, she got to work on her follow-up and got hooked on Ritalin.
lmao @ bill reading the diana ross book........I watched this vid in favor of seeing neil peart to begin with....bill had a great moment with the book....funny as hell
Astonishing intolerance of alcoholics. If you've ever had one in your family, Neil, you'd know that it's not victim-hood. and it's not abdicating responsibility, simply a recognition of an inability to control their drinking. I have family members who I'm sure wished it was their fault, i.e. being weak willed, and could have just stopped. I respect Peart's abilities, but from what I've read and heard, he seems like a bit of an A-hole.Don't misunderstand, I've been a Rush fan since 77, and that hasn't changed in the least. That doesn't mean I can't recognize the man's failings.
I think you are missing the whole topic of conversation here. Neil is not saying drunks claimed victimhood. They are having a conversation about societies sense of humor about finding drunks funny. Neil merely pointed out that the fact that we have become so sensitive to the victims of alcoholism that we have stopped seeing the good old fashioned humor in the character of the classic drunk (which predates even Shakespeare). He was not talking at all about actually alcoholics, just making a statement on why society dont find them as funny as they used to.
I think if I read Neil right, he knew perfectly well how devastating alcohol can be. Years later when his daughter and wife died he almost became a alcoholic. Everyone changes even Neil. EXEPT some fools in this show😊.
He was just promoting the burning for buddy thing, he only did pub when he had something he was totally responsible for promoting he let geddy and alex do most of the rush pub
nah. don't get me wrong, i like his comedy, but what's the point of having great guests if you're going to treat them like NPCs? foils to reflect himself off of? what a wasted opportunity. an intelligent conversation between him and Peart would have been epic
who has time to read!??! WHO HAS TIME TO READ??!!! You DO REALIZE you are talking to/ AND Neil Peart is a part of your panel??!! For fuck's sake I can't even imagine how much Neil was cringing through that segment! LOL!
Get the impression is trying too hard to be smarter than everyone. Mind you, he admitted he's a fan of Bevis and Butthead. As for drunks, where are all the drunks? Dean Martin is my favourite drunk.
I think Neil (Who is the smartest guy on stage) firmly believes "It is best to be silent, and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt".
That is such a true and great statement and I would bet you are correct that Neil felt that way, but I think Neil would also speak his mind and not be afraid of saying something a little or even a lot "controversial". I don't think he relished being controversial for the sake of being controversial unless there was a serious point he would be trying to make. RIP Mr. Peart
Neil's awkward "I'm surrounded by idiots" smile is a freaking mood.
Two guests on this show, Neil Peart (Rush) and Elizabeth Wurtzel (Prozac Nation), both died on January 7, 2020 of cancer.
Holy crap, that’s both weird and sad.
Wow, that’s crazy…another thing that tripped me out is that the son of Ray Danniels, Rush’s manager also died of a brain tumor before Neil.
Neil Peart is not a celebrity. He is a musician who is famous. Big difference.
I would've loved a Peart vs Maher debate on Ayn Rand / Objectivism.
Neil distanced himself from all the Ayn Rand stuff later on, as he got older. He basically attributed it to young angst. Neil, as any true intellectual should, changed his thoughts and beliefs as he matured and became more informed.
Shaking my head. What a colossal waste of time when you have Neil Peart there and let him say so little.
Agreed
Mr. Peart is the most intelligent person in the history of humankind, and he is The Messiah to boot!!!!
Thank you so much for posting these clips. It is very much appreciated :)

OMFG that is totally twisted. Bill's gotta be sh!t'n brix...

The girl has a cute laugh. But Neil is just graceful.
I forgot how obnoxious that show was and I wish I could have those wasted minutes of my life back.
Wow. I forgot about Neil appearing on there even though I watched that show every night.
"Time is suspended when I am performing". - Diana Ross
Anyone remember when "Terrible"Ted Nugent was on an episode of this bullshit show?
Man,Ted tore Maher a new ass.
I laughed my ass off at that!
They cut Neil off a little too much for my taste. I would love to see him on the longer format Bill Maher show he has now on HBO.
Neil seemed ok with it.
