And to think, we lived thru this. Cheers to all us old folks. Thankfully we were taught how to have a good sense of humor, or we wouldn't have made it this far. Thanks SCTV.
The movie they are doing this parody of 'Goin' Down The Road' was a drama, but it was unintentionally funny because of the 'dumb east coasters' stereotype that was very strong Canada in those days. If you haven't seen it they almost didn't need to do this parody because it is this silly in parts and the dialogue is almost taken from it word for word lol.
@@Banditt42Shut up. So tired of people in the west who only vote conservative pretending the Maritimes is some static place that only votes liberal and that we should just bend your way. NB, PEI, NS all have PC governments now. NB has repeatedly voted majority cons in federal elections in the last 20 years. NS regularly returns split seats where no one has a majority. Maybe people in AB should stop voting conservative to avoid stereotyping, or is this a one way whine?

I had a company in TO in the 80s. Hired a lot of guys from the east coast. These not sterotypes the guys were very much like this but with a much thicker accent. "Go where you're at and I'll come where too." One guy knock-up his buddies sister (She look just like him but without the mustache) and had to live with her and take care of the baby. They hated each other. It was very sad.
About 1/3 of the dialogue in Goin’ Down the Road is some variation of: P: “Aww, geez Joey . . . what are we gonna do now?” J: “Ahhh . . . don’t worry about it Pete. Have another beer!”

People don't realize the perfect impression John is doing of the actor from Goin Down The Road. Brilliant!!!! Yonge Street in the 70s and 80s. I miss Sam the Record Man!
I lived in Toronto in the 1970s and used to work at Towers, the department store, so it was a bit nostalgic seeing the bag being carried by “Alice” when they bump into her. And, ironically, Doug Mcgrath who was “Pete” in “Goin’ Down the Road” which this is based on came through my cash. He must have been moving in someplace because he bought everything he would have needed in about 8 cartloads. In the parody, Jane Eastwood plays Alice and she was Joe Flaherty’s sister-in-law. She was reprising her role from the movie in the parody.

SCTV was before my time, but I grew up watching a lot of episodes in syndication on the Comedy Network - losing Joe Flaherty earlier this year hurt, just as bad as John Candy, just as bad as Harold Ramis. Having moved away from cable, I really wish the whole series was available as a box set, but the syndication, and music rights seem like a real cluster; I have to make due, with these uploads.
I miss John so very much! Laugh in peace, you funny giant!
Joe Flaherty too.❤️
SCTV and all of its players were frikkin' geniuses. Timeless humor and wit.
Geniuses indeed! As an ensemble they are unapproachable.
Amen 🙏
SCTV was the best. Shaped my sense of humor when I was a kid.
I thought this was fact. Especially about doctorin and lawyerin and nuclear physicistin jobs in Toronto.
“Alberta Bound!” Jobs! 😂

David Clayton-Thomas singing Stompin' Tom! Pretty darn Canadian, eh? And Jayne Eastwood who was in Goin' Down the Road! An absolute classic!
How cool to see Jayne "reprise her role"!

How brilliant is John's impression of the actor from Goin' Down the road.
Thanks! I thought I recognized DCT's voice there. Quite distinctive.

Trust me, you wouldn’t want to be walking down Jasper Avenue at 11:30 at night anymore.

It's sad how much this still hits home 35 years later. Everyone is still chasing those JOBS JOBS JOBS!, except it's also HOMES HOMES HOMES now lol =)
In Edmonton they got this street named Jasper Avenue, the sun shines all day long, you can walk the street at 11:30 at night!
I wanna go there!
What year was this released? I cannot find information.
1982
Brings back SCTV memories and of a once-lively Yonge St between Dundas and Gerrard. Pretty dull right now.
And Flaherty totally underated! Go Floyd (Count et al) and Guy Caballero! 🤓😎✌🏼
Cannot wait!

THE RAINBOW IN TORONTO song is it by The Downchild Blues band?

It's David Clayton Thomas from Blood, Sweat & Tears.
