Aquascaping A Locally Sourced Tadpole Aquarium (I tried...)

- I tried aquascaping a locally sourced aquarium. I only used resources from a local pond. This is intended as a native aquarium for tadpoles. In this video I show the sourcing, the aquascaping and the aquarium.
Enjoy!

I laughed so hard when you realized that wood that floats... floats.
"Some say he's the new Einstein"
saaaame 🤣all of the video was entertaining really, especially his comments
greatest video on youtube
Same
Now I know why I fail at catching things instead of a dog I should start with wood!
He could literally be talking over a rock being filmed and I would watch.
Big, big same.
Pretty sure he has a video like that actually.
@Steven Haidinyak ... Hahahaaa did you see the video where he makes everything go black...? It was Sooo good 😊
Oh the quarantine shizzles we all have to cope with.. haha
Same
What the hell he’s a handsome young man?
I thought for sure he was an alien robot.
If he was an alien robot he wouldn't be making tadpole aquariums, he would make human terrariums.
@@TheFunwichHorror that's what you and the rest of the alien robots want us to think.
@@TheFunwichHorror Bold of you to assume he hasnt already
TheFunwichHorror 😂😂😂
@@tomatotortilla I thought the same
"I never had a probelm with rocks floating."
Pumice: Hold my beer.
exactly what I thought lol
Volcanic rocks
Hold my magma.
@@luoravetla no, magma is inside the earth my friend. Lava is outside the earth.
I never thought floating rocks were a thing until I was camping in a dried river bed that came down from a vulcano in Iceland. The next morning the water level was a lot higher and there were tons of floating rocks coming down the river. It was so amazing especially because I never really heard of floating rocks :P
That floating wood revelation was hilarious. Your sense of humor is entertaining.
Thanks!
Much agreed, he's super funny
Moving.in your case that is good. The wood will float until it is water logged, then only then do you place them where you want them. Not screaming as of yet! I can't stop laughing.
Just imagine seeing a guy netting around the local park pond while speaking to himself surrounded by microphones.
It's truely surprising how little people care. The people that do notice are always very interested in what I'm doing, so that's nice.
@@LifeinJars Ooh nice. I really do think your hobby is very interesting
A stickle back aquarium sounds like a really cool idea
I am interested
hell yeah
Stickle back makes some bad music
I have to stickle it to them, they are neat lil fish
Ass juiCe
this video is iconic. the level of self-awareness coupled with the casual obliviousness to the floating property of already floating wood? Beautiful. The self-professed lack of skill? Amazing. The taste in shirts? Exemplary. I subscribed for squiggly things in jars but I got so much more. This is culture
disclaimer that is not a sarcastic comment in the slightest
Wow thanks!
Don't worry too much about sounding professional or providing perfect commentary all the time, I think seeing every step of your process and hearing your thoughts on them are part of the charm. Plus, you're very funny.
“is that english?”
continues speaking
This is something a human would say.
LOL i thought that was so funny
This is probably my favorite videos so far. You may not be a "professional" aquascaper but it is great to watch people learn from their mistakes and improve. Also good to see an actual human being in the videos. Keep up the great videos. One of my favorite channels at the moment.
Thanks, I appreciate it
Aww!! You are SO young!! I want to tell you a few things: PLEASE PLEASE stop saying that you are stupid and things like that, you really aren't that. You are a brilliant kid. And you are learning! It's impressive to see how you learn!
I see your videos from Buenos Aires, Argentina with my 6 year old son 😊
I swear this man is awkward and funny at the same time😂
I rescued 220 tadpoles from my pool, let them grow into frogs and didn't have mosquitoes for 3 years afterwards.
LOL awesome
how you calculated
Nice!
@@theunknown4834 I put the whole mass into a 10 gallon aquarium I had set up in the kitchen for guppies. When they got hind legs I moved them outside into a huge tupperware -like tub, I counted them as I brought them out a netfull at the time - 224 to be exact but I thought if I wrote that no one would believe me. I put big branches in the tub so they could climb out when they lost their tails. I fed them fish food.
"rescued"
"This I can control.....oh no, what's happening?"
"Is that english?"
That was extremely adorable for some reason.
0:38 my mom’s face when I bring a jar of muddy water into the house because I saw a RUclipsr do it
hehe
Lol, my husband was not pleased when I brought in jars because of this guy, now I brought in a tank (just a bigger jar right?) We'll see what he says, lol.
@@megbuchanan1630 update pls..
@@Fkais hi, lol. He didn't like it. Says it might smell up the house (not if you do it right) but he is fine with it now. He likes how the kids get excited seeing creatures living.
Meg Buchanan that great! Stay safe btw
"Oh he's getting some floating pieces so when the tadpoles grow legs they can climb out the water. Oh. Oh no."
"Ladies and gentlemen, we got him." 😂
@Lexi Lin when US Forces successfully captured the piece of bark floating in this pond in 2003, Paul Bremer historically announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, we got him."
that one got me
Yes neophile, a cameo appearance!
Me before watching this video: "This guy is really smart. He knows so much about all these obscure water creatures and how to keep them"
Me now: "Didn't he realise that wood that floats, ehm, floats?"
But in all honesty, I love your videos, I love this video and i'd love to see a stickleback aquarium!
I collected tadpoles in a stream near my grandmother’s. Let them grow and released them back into the stream. Great little creatures.
Yeah they're pretty neat!
I really enjoy your "unprofessionalism" it makes me feel relaxed and reminds me to take it easy with my ecosystems and that they dont have to be perfect. Your little mistakes and stutters make your content relatable and human. And that beat boxing?? Perfect. Thank you for your work dude. I feel like you're my friend even though I've never met you become of your content. Keep it weird 👍👍👍
I like the floaty logs and yes, they naturally resumed floating. I love raising tadpoles and hearing their frogs! Take care of the froggies for me, they sound loved
“Out of place” was used correctly. Thanks for all the cool videos.
Please do a stickleback aquarium! Itd be so cool and interesting theyre one of my favorite fish and i feel like there isnt enough videos about them let alone aquariums
" Out of place " is the correct expression!
I have so much respect for you sharing your floating wood mishap. So many people would edit that out. The honesty of your process is so refreshing. You are awesome.
"Look at that! Isn't that a nice slope? Well, I don't know..."
"I've never had a problem with rocks floating." That just means you haven't been trying hard enough.
But in all seriousness, great video! I used to keep newts in a paludarium when I was a kid.
Great seeing you on camera..your charisma comes through the lens..keep doing what you do and thanks for posting!
He had the wood start to float and I thought. “Huh... well. That’s a problem.” Didn’t even think twice about getting floating wood.
Cuts to him crying--->🤣lol
LOL
Hey, Life in Jars! Ur one of my favorite channels ever!!!
Wow thanks soupy cow!
Yessss
There aren't many channels on RUclips I look forward to watching as much as yours. Always entertaining and relaxing. Keep up the good work
Thank you!
I'll admit I didn't think about wood either. Lol
Just keep doing you bro. Do what you want, and what makes you happy. I so enjoyed this.💚💚💚
2:32 I think a stickleback aquarium would be cool
That small floating piece is really nice, plus the animals living in it liked it, too.
Plus the tadpoles will love it when they get big enough.... which you already knew =D
You writing poetry here
This is my first time I've seen you! I thought you were an old guy!!!
10:43 I was screaming at you to find the ship.
but tbh, I love how it looked like an anchor
A few months late.. but..
1. You are amazing
2. You are not stupid
3. We love your videos
4. It's ok to make mistakes.
You always make me smile, and I'm sure that there's hundreds of us who feel the same.
Thanks for sharing yourself with us!
You being self conscious about being entertaining is thoroughly entertaining.
If you want your floating wood to sink, why not glue some fishing weights to the underside of them?
Literally read my mind, on both comments. I was gonna suggest drilling holes and then adding the fishing weights. Not sure if glue is a good thing to add into ecosystem tho
Cole Schnieders Since fishing weights are less, would that somehow add trace amounts of less into the water over time?
@@Rokaize if the water was acidic it could I think. Makes you think about how bad it is with the countless lead weights that fall off of people's lines who go fishing...
Better to just attach some rocks with string or wire like someone else said.
Add stones to the bottom. For platys I use small lava rock
In case folks haven't noticed, it's the future and we have brass and tungsten weights available.
Life in Jars: I want to make a aquascape
Aquascape: no
I used to do this in old discarded coolers when I was growing up so maybe it’s just nostalgia, but I think this is a) incredibly intriguing b) utterly fascinating and c) absolutely adorable
You can try soaking the pieces of wood overnight if you want to add them later or to another aquarium, just make sure you use something to keep them weighted down and fully submerged
Oh yeah! me too. My parents got me a plastic waiting pool when I was six, I swam in it once. Whenever my dad would go fishing, which was often because he commercially fished as well as a lot of other things., I would always make him let me catch stuff to bring home to my pond. It was a thriving ecosystem that did well on its own, and since we lived in Houston Texas at the time there was lots of rain so I rarely even had to add water. So much fun huh!?!
You’re adorable and we love you. Thanks for making an on screen appearance again!
"oh no... they're floating" yeah I know that feel.
Mfw dumping dead bodies into the lake
I just signed up for Partreon and pledging $5 a month to support what you do! I love the content you have. I have a half gallon jar with a fish and some tiny snails inside that's been thriving for over 1.5 years. I wish I could show you somehow....

"but hold on wait a minute okay
when I went locally sourcing I saw these pieces of wood and bark floating so there would be an easy target for me to grab what I didn't realize was if they are floating in the pond they will be floating in the aquarium as well so now YOU'LL FLOAT TOO". - Pennywise the aquascaper.
2:31 Yes! I have a few spare aquariums that I've considered having them. They are needed to be removed from our creeks here so easy to find.
“i also hope that this bag-“ *aggressive crumpling sound* “-doesn’t make a lot of noise” he is so funny and he doesn’t even realize
I live in Alaska, I believe we only have one species of frog, I’ve only ever seen one in the 24 years I’ve lived here. This would be an amazing project to do! Love your videos
They're protected though, we're not supposed to mess with them. I live over off of point McKenzie and a failed well left some infrastructure and every year water collects in the bottom and it's full of frogs.
Meanwhile kids are asking why that guy is running around the lake with a net and camera
Take it as life is one big experience. Never know whats gonna happen till it does. I've learned so much from you.
when you said "look a little isopod" I heard "astronaut" and chuckled cause thats a cute joke, but then I realised it wasnt but im gonna pretend it was.
I stumbled upon the videos about a year ago. My kids and I have added them to our Saturday watching list, along with a few other channels we enjoy. We cant get enough and find ourselves sometimes re-watching a video just because we want more.
LiJ: "Here's a closeup of one of the stars of this video."
Tadpole: O.__.O
Havent laughed out loud in a while, this made me do it. Tanks for all the fun, information and experimentation! Keep up having fun, fellow Dutchy!
"oh no what's happening" is exactly what I repeated to myself while watching this. Your honest reactions are very cute and informative.
Omg I can't believe, 2 of my favourite things in the world, aquariums and tadpoles.
the best feeling is swimming in a creek and just seeing like a phat tadpole or a lil fish or smthn
"I never really thought about the concept of tadpole nostrils...but it makes perfect sense" 😂😂😂😂
Please don't say you're stupid. I think you're an amazing guy. So intelligent, passionate, creative, hilarious (in a great way!) and still so young. Imagine how much you will have learnt by the time you're in your 30s and 40s! You'll be a complete expert on the subject. We only learn through perseverance and from making mistakes. I absolutely love your videos and even though I have a huge frog/toad phobia, I really want to see how this project progresses. Keep on panic-scaping!! 🐸
Oh my gosh you ding-dong. XD I'm glad you still got a laugh out of the floating wood.
until this video I imagined you were a kind of chubby middle-aged gentleman with a mustache and big glasses I realized I've never seen your face before
Lmao "This is another plant, a green one."
My son and I are obsessed with you and your videos. We went to a local creek yesterday and put together a SUPER AWESOME ecosphere! He is so proud!
you dont have to be an expert at something to enjoy it, you dont have to be a professional to be entertaining. Watching someone try, fail and learn is very educational and entertaining and i think you should keep doing that without worrying so much about not being good enough.
5:16 It became entertaining when you put 70s porn music over it
I think we saw the same video…
I remember catching sticklebacks as a kid. A stickleback tank would be cool.
Don't worry about being entertaining because you're already are, plus you've got the looks, you've got the voice. What else could we ask for?
I'd love to see an aquarium full of random stuff you find at the ponds
Your unintended ignorance makes a wonderful zen like spirit journey.
The aquarium is so beautiful! I wish I lived by a pond with tadpoles and fish!
I'd bet there is a pond with tadpoles near you. Get out there to the green spaces or forest near you.
Even if you don't find tadpoles, you will find some forms of "life for jars" ....
Just make sure it's legal in your area and you don't catch protected species
Your humor is perfect. When you ask if this is entertaining, the answer is yes.
You tried and I believe you succeeded. I love your commentary. Not everyone wants to watch an expert. As an amateur fish keeper, I thoroughly enjoy watching someone make similar mistakes to me and it helps me see those errors positively.
You kinda cute ngl 😳
Bro we have the same mind
No homo though.
