  • See the process of how we planted a hedge of North Pole Arborvitae from Proven Winners in our small front patio. The result is amazing! Considering our space is not very big at all, I felt it would be nice to document how you can squeeze an arborvitae into minimal space and still receive and outstanding impact. I planted 7 gallon pots.

    These look great already! Starting with bigger plants is smart, that saves you a few years waiting for them to grow.

      Thank you so much! Oh yes, I figured since I only needed a few, I would make the initial investment worthwhile. The arborvitaes are doing well, so far ☺️ Soil and Margaritas

    Ever since moving into this home, I discovered my love for gardening. I love envisioning how the plants will look after they’re mature and I enjoy designing the landscape- it’s fun and exciting. Plants are high maintenance a lot of the time, but they’re so worth it. I hope this video is inspiring to you all 🌲

      Why did u choose north pole arborvitae over emerald green arborvitae?

    • @paolaarletty6525
      @paolaarletty6525  3 года назад

      Hi, that’s a great question. I love the lush look of the Emerald Green Arborvitae, but it’s dimensions at maturity could be way more than the North Pole Arborvitae at 14’ - 16’ feet high and 4’ - 5’ wide. Considering our space is not large, I figured we’re better off with a narrower option. In the end, we’ll only allow the trees to grow about 9’ - 12’ feet. Also, the North Pole variety resists winter burn and stays very green during the colder months. These are all things I read and heard, so we’ll have to test it this upcoming winter. Looking back now, I almost feel like I should’ve planted Emerald Green as the ones around our neighborhood are gorgeous. However, I’m in love with our arborvitaes and one could argue the two varieties are practically the same. Sunshine

      @@paolaarletty6525 m torn between the two cultivars..i like the emerald green because of the lush green color. I read that its more narrow than north pole which would be perfect for my small space but m not digging the brown patches that i see in some of the trees in my neighborhood... I think am going to go for north pole as well...do lets us know how north pole turned out during the winter.

      I completely understand. I was also going through the same dilemma when I was deciding between the two varieties. The brown patches you see in the emerald green arbs in your neighborhood may be due to a lack of water, excessive sun or drought. If they don’t get enough air circulation they begin drying out in the inside. I will definitely make an update video about how the North Pole arborvitaes are doing for us and how we maintain them. You can opt to visit your local garden center and ask their opinion on which cultivar is best for your area. Sunshine

    Love your channel! How have they done? I’m in zone 7a and thinking of adding them. Are they on irrigation? How have they done in the heat?

    How often are you watering and how much, for the first several months after planting?

    the extra one can still be used as a Christmas tree/ house plant.

      Thank you. I honestly thought of every possible way to keep the extra arborvitae, but we really did not have space for it. I felt guilty leaving it in a can of pot, so I ended up selling it.

    is privet invasive in your area?

    • @paolaarletty6525
      @paolaarletty6525  3 года назад

      No, I do not think privet hedges are invasive in our area. We see them everywhere. I think in a large garden they would look great, as they would have more space to spread. But, in ours they just felt constrained and messy. One of our neighbors allowed their privets to grow into trees in order to create a canopy over their house and they look magical.

    what was that multi stemmed tree in the middle of your yard?

    • @paolaarletty6525
      @paolaarletty6525  3 года назад

      Hi, this is a pine tree with a sort of willow tendency. We found it when we moved in. It grows red berries in the winter and we love it. I think the previous owners neglected the tree to the point where it grew more than one leader. This is why it now has multiple trunks. Hope this helps :)
