Great video! I have recently started using a lot of the tactics you suggest and it definitely works! On maps like Hurtgen Forest, I keep my engagement distance at least 300 meters - this has the added benefit of keeping you at a safe distance and also eliminates a lot of the concealment foliage the enemy would have if they were closer. It is difficult to tell if you are scoring hits at that range, but I am always surprised by the number of kills at the end of the match.
I always went with the idea that the MG is the center of the squad when advancing and that the squad should be bounding, but it's a video game. That'll never happen lmao, great tips though i'll make sure to try them out
Not always, but if you end up in a game with a vocal and directed sl and the MG is talking, you can certainly work together. I've had quite a few moments where I was or our MG was telling me when he could fire and I was letting him know when I wanted to move so he could suppress
New to the game and one of the coolest thing about the machine gun is I don't really know if I get a kill unless its a headshot, at least I couldn't hear the thud. I was firing down a sightline from long range for a while as my team was advancing and apparently I got 5 kills but didn't even realize it.
Even though I don't play HLL, your hints are basically the same as what my experience says. Good guide video. Keep it up. Ps. This comment feels a lot more egocentric on my part than it was supposed to be.
My most successful game was as a Machine Gunner defending Hamlet 5 kill streak on my third game . It was great you most certainly have to put your self in the right position I have also used the machine gun off the hip a few times. Great content
There are few things more satisfying than setting up an mg in a good spot to put suppressive fire on an enemy position and watching your team freely walk up and clear the area while the other team is stuck helpeless behind a wall or inside a building.
I usually find in most games where you can be a gunner or a sniper hiding in an open field with a little cover is always better than a window. Usually I take one shot from a window and the whole lobby is aware you’re in a building whereas in an open field they take a little longer working out where in the field you are allowing you to move or take another shot.
My best MG game I had was inside a little shack just 100m in front of the defensive hardcap. Allies covered me from the back while I had one flank in my sight. And as enemys tried to sneak up on me I could quick peak them around the corner. Ammunition and grenades were the end of me and we lost the point after that - unsurprisingly.
im a relativly new player and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE TIPS i figured out the sightlines one quick but never though about reducing enemy sightlines on me
Great tips!!! I always play aw Machine Gunner. I love to find fatal funnels where they'll most likely come down and I just mow them down in droves. Lol
@@SoulSniperYT lololol something I learned many moons ago. In case anyone ever asks you what it is, it's a path that forces them to only to go forward or backwards. Pretty much into their death haha.
Roads are the BEST lines of fire for MGs. Hunkering down in the middle of one that's close to an objective always scores me a ton of kills and denies the enemy an avenue of approach.
Had one opportunity on purple heart lane and took dozens of enemies from around 350m, thoughout the whole game, best game ever. In other words - Location locaton location!
A good strategy in a desperate defence situation is teaming up with a 2nd MG, if you can funnel the attacking team into one area by having both MG player fairly close to each other and covering a wider area or covering both flanks it will give your riflemen support in the fact they can concentrate on the blind spot between both MG nests and allow a counter attack to push forward and create a new line of defence. Also, if you have managed to pin point an area of high enemy activity, 1 MG begin to fire and as they run low on their ammo belt the other takes over to allow for the 1st to reload, this will allow a continued suppression on the enemy preventing any breakthroughs
Its always a good shout to do some research before you jump into "mil-sims", or before you jump into anything for that matter. Check out how different nations employed what tactics to make their weaponry effective. Military History Visualized does fantastic vids as an example that takes you through the tactics and doctrine of the Nazi war machine.
My first match ever was last friday night and I was setup on right side of a road, perpendicular to the river (bridge map). My squad was pushing forward, looking for an OP or garrison. Just as I was questioning what a garrison looked like ("Is it a bunch of boxes?) about 8 enemy troops spawn in the middle of the road and I unload, smoke is popped, and more troops spawn. Got my first 10 kill streak in about 90 seconds. Feels good man
@@SoulSniperYT I've only been playing for a couple days, after going through most of the roles I think machine gunner is mine. I only did the Lee Roy Jenkins bit because we must have been 30 people rushing an objective, but I gathered I senses and hunkered down in a good vantage point and threw down suppressive fire for team to keep pushing. This game is fantastic, can't believe I slept on it for so long.
I’m still learning, so I’ve been too scared to try MG so far, but really want to give it a go. I kinda feel like this would be easier if it wasn’t only 1 out of every 3 matches that I find a squad who are actually on comms. Those times I find a communicative team, they’ve always been so good at teaching me what to do, where to go etc. I’m still somewhat of a burden, but I’m trying, and I love this game
Don't be scared, just give it a whirl and try to practice some of the tips in this video. I know it's intimidating at first, but try not to overthink it for now. It's still a game, after all. You'll do great! 👍
Don't be scared. Nobody's gonna have a go. People are only really toxic on team chat and you can ignore them because they're usually people that aren't doing anything to contribute themselves. Just play it and have fun. Same with other roles. And if you don't know what to do; ask. There are plenty of veteran players around, people are usually more than happy to pass on advice. When I first picked up SL, I told the squad I didn't know what I was doing and then I had 3 people telling me how to do the role effectively and they praised me at the end of the game. Gave me confidence to pick it up again and again and again until I got to a point where I'm not bad anymore. Not good at SL. But I'm not bad. So yeah. Just play mg, engineer and all the other classes and then ask for advice. That's the best advice I can give you lol.
@@bakersmileyface genuinely the best bit about this game has been how cool the community are. Lots of current/ex military peeps is what I’ve come across, and generally super focussed on trying to make their squad do the best they can do, regardless of experience (of which I have none). It’s a different game when you have a non communicative squad, but when it all comes together it has already lead to some of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. I’m still trying to level my grunt soldier to level 6, but will DEFINITELY be taking your advice very soon and trying some other classes. MG is on my radar for sure. Cheers!
I lvoe getting in a defiladed position and leaning back at a steep angle while reloading...makes me feel like I'm really there dodging fire and it absolutely does work in the right spots, ofc excluding prone reloads
Another tip. When mounted on a window ledg or partly broken wall. Depending on the direction of the enemy location. You can turn the opposite direction to cover yourself while staying mounted to reload or avoid incoming fire
Actually, this was debunked by another RUclipsr. In first person it looks as though you are behind cover, however in third person as soon as you start the reload animation your character stands up straight again and you are visible.
Definitely agree, do not set up on a wall where your head is obvious. Use corners, walls, essentially blind 20% of your FOV and you’re much harder to see. Helps if you switch up after each wave you take down.
my buddys a team leader in a usmc weapons co. and he will sometimes have his boots play this game with him so he can properly show and explain stuff like enfilades and mgs in a defense
I looked thus video up since I just played a game on Omaha as the Germans, and I definitely messed up using this class (I am new to the game). I understood a big aspect of the machine gunner is suppressive fire, but was getting frustrated at hearing other machine guns going off while I sat in a barn waiting for Americans to cross a field that they never did. However, I will say a major problem I was experiencing was the lack of marking and communication by my squad. I’d ask where people are, and I’d get a quiet response, but otherwise silence (my teammates weren’t even talking to each other). As such, I found it quite frustrating to play this position both as someone new and someone who had no communication as to where the enemy was.
Wow, thank you! So glad you think so! Welcome to the channel and thanks for subscribing man! Check out my How to Play Recon... The RIGHT way video too. 🪖
I really am pretty stoked on this game. I spent so long playing games like CoD and Baytlefield but im just sick of people not being a cohesive unit. I want to communicate with team mates. Work together, use tactics, and if necessary.. we all die on eachothers brass to the last man. This game looks great for real fun. Im over run and gun spray fest 360 no scope nonsense.
I find MG to be one of the most map dependent roles. Trying to play MG on SMDM for example is frustrating because it's all open fields and hedgerows with minimal places to mount the MG. Compare it to playing MG on a map like Carentan and it's a different experience. SMDM? Grab a rifle. Carentan? Stalingrad? MG go brrrrrt!
@@SoulSniperYTI agree very much so.The mg is very important for disrupting enemy offensives and defensives but your not going to get very far without supportive teammates or suitable maps
my issue with machine gunner is I find a good spot let off say 20 rounds keep a squad or two pinned down and kill some and before I can even resituate myself I get hit by 3 AT guy's and 6 riflemen lol
It can be challenging to go on long runs as an MG, but finding the right spot is really important. Minimize enemy sightlines to you, while maximizing your sightlines to them.
I managed to get 65 kills on my 5 game that i ever played it was with the mg 34 and i was camping in bush spraying towards enemy garrisons😅 lucky game id say because there were people walking 2m away from me and they didn't notice
Always SAFESOC 1. Security is always first! Have a buddy if you are breaking from the rest of your team. 2. Automatic weapons on Avenues of approach! Aiming down the path enemy is likely to take is crucial! 3. Fields of Fire! Establish clear fields of Fire to avoid friendly fire and to make sure your friendlies cover your blind zones. 4. Entrenchment doesn’t apply but you can think of it as taking proper cover instead of laying in the open. 5. Supplementary positions! Know where you are falling back when shit hits the fan or sniper lands his shots close to your position. 6. obstacles! Engineers are your best friends! Have them utilize wiring and other obstacles to tunnel enemy movement directly into your field of fire! 7. Camouflage doesn’t really apply but try to avoid sky lining and standing at man height in the open field.

Thank you for explaining, getting alot of hate when I do what the MG class is supposed to do.. Squad getting angry that I'm not killing everything that moved lol basically told them right out that's not my role its assault, automatic assault and various other roles. I'm just here from keeping the enemy suppressed and hunker down while you advanced 😜
Running and gunning with the MG is not ideal. It takes some patience and planning, particularly while defending. But with attacking, you're doing the right thing. Suppress the enemy while your squad advances. Keep the enemies heads down, and basically focus on denying the enemy the ability to effectively engage your squad.
Never go somewhere alone if u want to stay alive unless u have to be sneaky and take down a garisson or outpost also it's more fun to talk with ur partners even if they are not in the same squad
Machine guns are done well in Hell let loose compared to other games. They use a bullet that can critical wound someone in 1 -2 shots at a high fire rate but stays balanve by being bulky and only accurate stationary or on a bipod while heavily suppress someone's sight and aim.
Nothing more fun in this game than playing sniper+MG+ shotty buddies. Just three people can wreck a team. Sniper to find the enemy, MG to engage, Sniper continues to call enemies and fires at people looking for and firing at the MG, all while the shotty gets about twenty meters left or right from us, ABSOLUTELY HIDDEN TO THE ENEMY, catching any enemies attempting to flank us. Absolutely murderous.
03:00 Impossible after update 11, the game won't let you take exactly that anymore. Now, you're forced to crawl on top or over the actual position to deploy your bipod. Before the update 11 you could literally deploy everywhere but that's the past. Now when proning behind a let's say pile of rubble for example......impossible without weird camera angle or your gun pointing directly up in the sky for some weird reason. Update 11 fucked the game up unfortunately
Yea I was disappointed with the prone jankiness. It worked well before U11. Not sure if they did that intentionally or what but I hope they fix or revert it. Hard to keep a low profile when you have to crawl to the very top of a snowbank in order to aim straight ahead.
So this is why I’m such a terrible machinegunner: I move too much, I’m always at the front of the advance, and I’m not patient enough to just deploy my gun and wait for the enemy to come. I always get domed while trying to deploy my MG, or shortly thereafter.
Playing MG while attacking is a different play style than defending. And in my opinion, more challenging. You wanna focus more on providing covering fire for your buddies to advance their position. Once they've gained ground, follow them up and set up again. Rinse and repeat. But as I stressed in the video, positioning is super important when playing MG. Don't set up in obvious places the enemy will be expecting you. Maximize your sightlines while making the enemy sightlines to you as small as possible.
Glad you liked it man! Thanks for the support and if you ever want to squad up or just shoot the shit, you're welcome to come to my Discord.discord.gg/wUgVGWXtPe I'm in the process of starting my own server if you're on PC and interested...

That's awesome Scott! Maybe we can squad up sometime!
MGs are best on defense but as shown in the video they can be very useful for supporting an attack as well.
New to the game and one of the coolest thing about the machine gun is I don't really know if I get a kill unless its a headshot, at least I couldn't hear the thud. I was firing down a sightline from long range for a while as my team was advancing and apparently I got 5 kills but didn't even realize it.
I'm a gunner in the US Army rn, I love this class in this game.
Thanks for the video, great tips. I'm a newer player to HLL but like how they have the MG implemented in the game.
Welcome man! The MG role is so damn fun! Glad you found the video useful and thanks for the subscribe, happy to have you!
Even though I don't play HLL, your hints are basically the same as what my experience says.
Good guide video. Keep it up.
Ps.
This comment feels a lot more egocentric on my part than it was supposed to be.
Well thank you!
My most successful game was as a Machine Gunner defending Hamlet 5 kill streak on my third game . It was great you most certainly have to put your self in the right position I have also used the machine gun off the hip a few times.
Great content
I grew up playing World at war and medal of honour vangaurd so happy there is finally a game i can play like a real mg42 gunner
Great advice. Just started playing as mg and love finding a position to cover my squad and call out enemy movements.
It's still one of, if not my favorite role!
Oof! That spawn kill of the four guys... they loved the MG42 that day xD
There are few things more satisfying than setting up an mg in a good spot to put suppressive fire on an enemy position and watching your team freely walk up and clear the area while the other team is stuck helpeless behind a wall or inside a building.
When you find DAT spot where the enemy can't figure out where you are or how to stop you...🤌
I usually find in most games where you can be a gunner or a sniper hiding in an open field with a little cover is always better than a window. Usually I take one shot from a window and the whole lobby is aware you’re in a building whereas in an open field they take a little longer working out where in the field you are allowing you to move or take another shot.
man i love machine gunner role. My favorite one, and hey i love being inside a bunker with a MG its immersive haha anyway nice video
My best MG game I had was inside a little shack just 100m in front of the defensive hardcap. Allies covered me from the back while I had one flank in my sight. And as enemys tried to sneak up on me I could quick peak them around the corner. Ammunition and grenades were the end of me and we lost the point after that - unsurprisingly.
i just got back into hhl and i thoght i was the only one who played mg like this thanks for all the new things i learned
New to game. Your videos are really helping to understand the way it work. So different than many others! Keep it up!
Glad to hear it! Another tutorial.coming very soon!
Appreciate these videos, glad i found this channel
im a relativly new player and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE TIPS i figured out the sightlines one quick but never though about reducing enemy sightlines on me
Great tips!!! I always play aw Machine Gunner. I love to find fatal funnels where they'll most likely come down and I just mow them down in droves. Lol
"Fatal funnels" sounds cool lol. Might steal that one from you! :)
@@SoulSniperYT lololol something I learned many moons ago. In case anyone ever asks you what it is, it's a path that forces them to only to go forward or backwards. Pretty much into their death haha.
I really enjoy this channel and game!
Even though I seem to die from absolutely nowhere
Thanks for the kind words man! I appreciate your support and will keep the content coming! Just keep playing, you'll get better slowly but surely! 👍
Roads are the BEST lines of fire for MGs. Hunkering down in the middle of one that's close to an objective always scores me a ton of kills and denies the enemy an avenue of approach.
Agreed!
Had one opportunity on purple heart lane and took dozens of enemies from around 350m, thoughout the whole game, best game ever. In other words - Location locaton location!
Preach brother!
Just as I was questioning what a garrison looked like ("Is it a bunch of boxes?)
about 8 enemy troops spawn in the middle of the road and I unload, smoke is popped, and more troops spawn. Got my first 10 kill streak in about 90 seconds.
Feels good man
That's a damn lucky first time experience! Lol awesome man. I bet you're hooked now!

Such a beautiful, and well explained presentation of how to be a proper Gunner. Thank you man I have learned a lot from this simple video.
Oh man I fkn died at the "LEE ROY JENKINS!" part because I literally did exactly that today playing as a machine gunner.
Haha hey man, nothing wrong with having some fun! Hopefully you didn't just spray and pray the whole game :)
@@tylerwood5019 love it dude! Glad you saw the light and joined us in battle! 😀
"Grab your favorite Machine gun..."
I am gonna go out on a limb here and say: For most people that's the good old MG42.
A fair assumption my friend. A fair assumption.
Another brilliant guide dude keep it up ✅. Hopefully my AT guide will be out soon
I suck at AT so I'll be on the lookout for that! Thanks bud!
@@SoulSniperYT NP 😀
I’m still learning, so I’ve been too scared to try MG so far, but really want to give it a go. I kinda feel like this would be easier if it wasn’t only 1 out of every 3 matches that I find a squad who are actually on comms. Those times I find a communicative team, they’ve always been so good at teaching me what to do, where to go etc. I’m still somewhat of a burden, but I’m trying, and I love this game
Don’t be afraid to switch squads, if it’s possible.
Fantastic advice. Everything you said is true in my experience as well! 👍
@@SoulSniperYT well that's abit shit lol been a good feature
Definitely agree, do not set up on a wall where your head is obvious. Use corners, walls, essentially blind 20% of your FOV and you’re much harder to see. Helps if you switch up after each wave you take down.
Well I was saving this video for when I eventually played the role. It's not looking like it's ever gonna be that way now.
my buddys a team leader in a usmc weapons co. and he will sometimes have his boots play this game with him so he can properly show and explain stuff like enfilades and mgs in a defense
Dear SS,
Great concise approach to your content.
Thank you for making it.
Totally wanna squad up with you.
Anytime man! 🪖
"The owner of this house" LOL that got me laughing,.. that poor poor man xD
Another great role video! Thank you for the content. Really helpful
Happy to hear you like them man! 👍
Sounds like you had a bad squad and bad luck with positioning. Try it again, you'll catch on. A good squad helps too!
One of best Machine Gunner guide videos ever. Tny dude
Wow, thank you! So glad you think so! Welcome to the channel and thanks for subscribing man! Check out my How to Play Recon... The RIGHT way video too. 🪖
The positioning and patience are what get me killed. 😂😂😂
Been playing MG more recently, and it’s actually crazy how much just one or two MG’s can change the game. I’m really enjoying it
You can really give the enemy team fits if you position yourself right regularly.
Im over run and gun spray fest 360 no scope nonsense.
the biggest problem i had with it is finding a suitable position thats how i ended my fire round as an mg with a kd of 0.09
I find MG to be one of the most map dependent roles.
I love the browning
my issue with machine gunner is I find a good spot let off say 20 rounds keep a squad or two pinned down and kill some and before I can even resituate myself I get hit by 3 AT guy's and 6 riflemen lol
It can be challenging to go on long runs as an MG, but finding the right spot is really important. Minimize enemy sightlines to you, while maximizing your sightlines to them.
Bad positioning
I don't even play the game but was still fun to watch, love the MGs
MG's go BBRRRRRRRRRT! Now if only I could drift the Tiger tank...
@@SoulSniperYT hahaha :D
I love the mg42s crazy rate of fire, then 1 taping a guy in the head with a 1 bullet
Me too! Sometimes all it takes is one brrt. Lol
please make a video about important strong points on diffrent maps! maybe even a vid on strong garrison placements :) love the videos!
I've got a video that breaks down garrison strategies on my channel, definitely check that out!
excellent points
I got 4 kills the first time with the mg and ik it wasnt alot but i did defend that point like crazy with the mg
Nice work! Many people get zero kills their first time so taking out a few enemies is not so bad!
I managed to get 65 kills on my 5 game that i ever played it was with the mg 34 and i was camping in bush spraying towards enemy garrisons😅 lucky game id say because there were people walking 2m away from me and they didn't notice
Always SAFESOC
Good shit!
You should come hang out on my discord and if you're on PC, I've got my own HLL server if you're interested in squadding up sometime. dsc.gg/soulsniper
Thanks for the content

Mowing down rows of enemies while yelling GET SOME
Machine guns are done well in Hell let loose compared to other games. They use a bullet that can critical wound someone in 1 -2 shots at a high fire rate but stays balanve by being bulky and only accurate stationary or on a bipod while heavily suppress someone's sight and aim.
I appreciate their deadliness at long range.
Rule 1. Use your ammo
This is missing the team depended bonuses, friendly MG: press F to redeploy, enemy MG: press F to activate invisibility
As mg main in insurgency i can say its pretty much the same, but more long range and patience
LEEEEEROOOY JEEEENKIIIINS
Using the bodied strown around me as a gun mount would be nice lol. Maybe thats just my twisted self
3:40 soulsniper knows pop smoke confirmed
By the way, this footage is U11. So it's not impossible, just more difficult to aim properly while prone.
Great vid!
