great video bill!!! it's amazing to see the "before" and the "way after" of the LP!...the before with the big Mt. Everest warp and then the way after where the LP appears perfectly flat.
Blake certainly swears by it - it does require a certain amount of volume of records to justify the expense, but the product is super and fairly priced... So far I have only had to chuck five records due to warps, but they were all about $20 total, so I still haven't gotten to a price break point.
It’s quite the process (literal days). Make sure the weigh the time investment into flattening your records when deciding if it is worth it. Also speed warps never flatten, but I have good luck with these large waves.
I just did one for 24 hours in the provided Groove Pouch. It did nothing for standard, 140g vinyl. Still fully warped. It only worked for a few times, then seems to not heat to proper temp. Owner would not replace the bag. This is the second faulty bag that I purchased...So he did replace one, but that one stopped working, too. Don't waste your money.
Bill!!! You reminded me I have been meaning to make some videos. I dropped the ball. Though to be fair I dropped the ball on everything in my life.... Good to see this
+GOZER'S DEN Good to hear from you. Your videos rock and whenever you get back to them I know there will be lots of us geeky bastards that will love it. I don't think it would be difficult to find others that share my opinion.
I know how to fix these for under $10. The key is weight, pressure, absorption / dissipation of heat and the exact heat. It does not require 2 panes of glass, nor an oven. Some people say 180F is the proper temp but that's danger zone heat.
Under The Silent Tree yes, I just used it a few weeks ago to repair a couple badly warped 45s. I’m glad I still have this device in my arsenal. Thanks for watching!
My record is unwarped but skips would you know how to fix a flat record that skips? This is the only record I own that skips so I know nothing is wrong with my record player.
My record player uses a spring counter balance instead of a weight in the tone arm does that make any difference? Maybe adjust the the record player so it has a heavier tracking force or the tracking force is too light causing the skipping and part getting stuck or repeat itself?
First of all, take the record to a friend that you trust and see if it plays OK on their turntable. If it does, you may need to align your cartridge for more accurate tracking. You may need to take it to someone if you don't know how to do it yourself. Once you align the cartridge correctly, ALL of your records have the potential to sound better! If your turntable does not have the ability to make these adjustments, you may want to consider another turntable. I wish you well in your journey for better sound!
@@BillsBoxOfSound THX and I also might try something simpler like cleaning the record and stylus and changing the needle cartridge to a higher quality one to see if that gets rid of the skipping problem. This was actually the first record I've listen to that had this issue. LOL. It was a Sonny and Cher LP Greatest Hits album I guess my record player just does like hearing Cher sing, LOL.
@@notthatdigusted7468 Ok and good luck, but if your cartridge is not aligned properly, even the most expensive cartridge or stylus will not help you out.
Hi bill! I love the video. I noticed you said you did several sessions if 3 to 4 hrs as opposed to just one very long session. Would one longer session be bad? I have a 180 gram record with a warp I want to try in a newly purchased vinyl flat. The warp is probably 1/3 as bad as the one in this video. What do you suggest?
Quick question.. When you use the groovy pouch, do you just put the record inside the heated pouch alone or do you put the record in Vinyl Flat clamp then put that into the pouch? ? Sorry for what may be a dumb question but it was never really mentioned in any of the videos or instructions.
Record goes in the vinyl flat, vinyl flat goes in the pouch, heat is applied, heat is turned off, record cools inside the vinyl flat, hopefully the record comes out un-warped.
@@BillsBoxOfSound Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated. When the heat is turned off, does it cool inside the vinyl flat and pouch or just the vinyl flat? As well, what percentage come out flat (on average)? Thanks again. I really appreciate your feedback.
It's not a regular heating element, the power supply is less powerful than most computer laptop power adapters. The gentle heat doesn't require the power of an electric cooktop. The example of this record is simply that - an example. I wanted to take an extremely warped record and flatten it, and that's what I did.
How many times/cycles do you have to go through to get your warped vinyl flat? I have used the vinyl flat on my warped vinyl and I feel like it has only very slightly flattened it. How long did you heat your vinyl in the vinyl flat and pouch in order to flatten it but not ruin and overheat it?
Sorry, but we are not trying to flatten a record; what we are trying to do is make an unplayable record playable. Pity you did not actually play it to see if it the vinyl flat was successful or not!

the timer thing is is a great idea I have forgotten and ruined a couple records before
Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I will have to look this up. I have a few records that need love.. .

@@BillsBoxOfSound Is the alignment referring to the tone arm balance with a spring or counterweight?
Is it required by Vinyl Flat that the user be barefoort? That's pretty demandind but is it effective?
Comfort is important.

how much it this with the bag?
From now until 12-31-2016 The price with the "groovy pouch" is $170 with free shipping in the US.
yay vinyl flat!
8-10hrs of heating, is costing you or us how many dollars? This is a 10-25$ Lp these days. Is it cost effective?

This was an extreme example. Usually one or two cycles of 2-3 hours and overnight cooling flattens a record nicely.
Oops I think you touched on it already.
how long does it take if you jam it into the shelf in sleeve packed tight?
Most likely years. Once I figured out how to make this device work, I repaired a couple irreplaceable records that never lost their warps until now.
Bill's Box Of Sound thanks I’ve got a copy of Rush hemispheres looks like your second run I’d like to flatten it
Turn the record over and put the clamp on
I have one ,I fix records setting it up for 8 hours in a row. No not 4 times at two hours . 8 hours cooking
Do you cook it on HI, MED or LOW for the 8 hrs?
Will this work on a 33 1/3 7” record?
Yes!
hi ! It does not damage the groove, you have already been able to compare with a veiled record, before and after sound level? thanks
just return it
