- This year I received the Vinyl Flat for Christmas (thanks Mom!) and I have had a few records laying around waiting for this moment. This copy of Cookin came directly from the manufacture in terrible shape, lets see if we can improve it. Is the Vinyl flat the gift that keeps on giving? #warpedrecords #thevinylflat #recordcollecting #vinylcommunity

Best video yet on this product. Thanks Bob!...been meaning to get one for years.
I’m gonna try a harder to fix edge warp next and see what’s the results are, fingers crossed!
Excellent video, buddy. I've used one of these for years and have had only one bad result that couldn't be explained. A standard 1970s MCA pressing (Jerry Jeff Walker) with a decent little warp was ruined -- deformed grooves -- after only 45 minutes. That one still makes no sense, but since it was a Jerry Jeff album maybe it was already baked. Insert rimshot here.
Of the other 40 or so records I've tried, most got either perfectly flat or acceptably flat. Five or six had no change at all, mostly edge warps. For the most part, damage caused by a Vinyl Flat is user error. People simply forget to set a timer and bake that shit like a Thanksgiving turkey.
Analogue Productions is set to repress this title in 2022! Along w/ the rest of those 50 Prestige titles they did a few years ago. 'Lush Life' and 'Rollins Plays For Bird' being the first two back in stock - though 'Lush Life' i believe is already sold out.
Hey Michael from LA! When can we expect a vid from you!
Hope they do them in 33/3!
I have had one for many years when they first came out. Looks like the improved on the design. I use the groovy pouch or sometimes the oven method. This is a great product thanks Bob
I have been an audiophile for many years and never saw this, only very expensive options. Thank you 😊
I’ve had mine for about 6 years now and it works great. It will fix any mild warp no problem on the 1st try. Stubborn ones it could take 3 to 4 tries. Be careful with high quality virgin vinyl, do not leave it in longer than 1 hour max (it will ruin the vinyl).
very cool double b....hope you had a good christmas...happy new year my friend...peace...rocky
I have two glass plates about a 1/4 of an inch thick that I put on either side and put in the oven at 135f and let it warm up to temp. I then let it set about an hour then turn the oven off for cool down. I have straightened many records. This is basically the same thing but much more polished! Ha! It is about time someone came out with a contraption to solve warped records. My method cost about 60.00 since I had to buy a special glass that would not crack when heated.
Can be a good option for some recods. However, the room temperature, the weight of the record and time is crucial to getting results, otherwise the warp will go but the vinyl will melt and will be noisy as heck or completely unplayable. In my experience I only got 50-50 chance of actually fixing a record the rest failed
It’s definitely a process of trial and error.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Bob Bradley !
Merry Yule! Vinyl luck in the new year!
NICE ! I've own mine for 2 years now and it has saved a lot of my LP's . I find that most new LP's are warped .I'd like to test the audio before & after some day . Use a nice type 4 cassette and my Nak to record the two . As of yet , I have not been able to tell a difference .
Merry Christmas Bob !!!
Great video, Bob. I've been hesitant on purchasing one since the general consensus has always been that you can not effectively flatten a warped record. I'm going to take the leap and purchase one.
This was my first attempt, I’m not use it will work on every type of warp but it can get records back into playing condition… edge warps seem to be the biggest issue.
Good stuff, Bob. That seems extremely effective. I’ve seen other vinyl flatterers that cost in the thousands, but the Vinyl Flat seems to work well for a fraction of the cost. My only worry would be melting the grooves, but that obviously wasn’t an issue. Thanks, Bob. Appreciate the vid!
This just came up in my feed from 2 months ago....any updates....worthy of purchasing 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
It requires a little patience but I think it is .
Great video! Thanks. I'm going to have to look in to getting one of these.
I’m still testing Dave, but so far so good. Edge warp up next!
Nice one Bob. Thanks for the concise yet suspenseful review. Maybe I will now go forth and buy one from your review.
Testing is still underway, I hear edge warps are stubborn…. We’ll see, stay tuned!
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL Looking forward to your comments after further use. 🙂
Simply awesome 👏🏾
I got one last christmas still haven't used it but glad to have it
Hello Bob, I love the new graphics on your channel really professional-looking. Nice demo of that vinyl flatter.
Thank you so much, I’m over here trying to bring new elements to the channel. Lol this was my first attempt with the vinyl flat, I feel more testing is required before I can actually tell someone to go buy it. Working on a stubborn edge warp now. I get the impression it might not fix the most extreme cases. Cheers and vinyl luck in the new year!
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL Bob, great video. Not sure if my last comment got registered.. I'll make a comment as an engineer about the edge warp. Looking at the design of this product, the thing that creates pressure between the plates is the weight of the top platter only and the tightening of the screw. while I imagine the plates are rigid, the bulk of the pressure is centered around the spindle because of the screw. If there was a way to add clamps evenly spaced (with one close to the edge warp) on the perimeter of the plates tightened evenly and as firmly as the center screw, with miniature C-clamps (do search for "miniature c-clamp" on Ebay or Amazon) , that may do the trick on edge warps. Just a suggestion!
Big Brad you keep us on our toes!! Great post as usual 🤘🔥🤘🔥
I wish this was around back in my day. I had to resort to putting the album under my speaker or dresser for a couple of days.
They say If the record is really expensive, you can just use the clamp, no heat. So yeah whatever it takes to get it done!
Very effective video. You rock, Bob!
Much appreciated
Great product review
Wow. I will be getting one one these ASAP!! I wonder if also works on records that have doggie dish warp. Yours was edge warp. Going to their site now and checking the specs.
From what I understand the edge warps are the most difficult.
Great video. I'll definitely check this product out. I had assumed you'd only use this for older vinyl you find warped. Curious why you didn't simply return this one to the manufacturer? Then again, you can now write this one off on your taxes! ;-)
Well, not bad for my first attempt, sadly I get way more warped records though the mail than out of an old Dusty bin. When I saw the record I knew it would be the perfect candidate for a video like this, which is the only reason it didn’t go back.
Cool Bob. Where do you get them
Now this was my first attempt and I hear it’s not always successful, more testing is required. Edge warps are the worst from what I hear. That said …www.vinylflat.com/product-page/the-vinyl-flat-record-flattener
Mind = Blown
First attempt, more testing is required, edge warps seem stubborn. We’ll see, cheers Jay!
Disembodied flannel shirt? It’s gotta be Bob!
Lol facts
How many days is recommended to let a record inside the Vinyl Flat if you want to do the process without heating it?
It’s quite experimental I go a week then check. Then I start with the heat if no luck..
Hey Bob, re-watching this video as I’m thinking of picking one up. Do you think if you took the vinyl flat out of the heat pouch after the 2 hours of heating to let it cool that would work as well? Also, what did you set the heat pouch to in terms of low, medium, high heat?
the pouch only has one setting, it heats to around 130 and thats it. I've been using it without any heat to good results. i think its good to lock them down for a few days and then put about an hour and a half on them depending on record (180 gram) lighter its best to go less. I usally turn it odff a few minutes early and let the record cool in the plates. its about being conservative in the end. hope this helps.
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL thanks Bob, appreciate your input! For Blue Notes from the 60s that are around 150-160 grams, would you say that 1.5 hours of heat is still good?
Absolutely, might go conservative depending on the value of the title. you can always try again.
Can you include a link to buy that?

I know this machine for years but I had my doupts if it works. From your video it seem that works. The issue is, how many times you're gonna use this...
Well I’ll use it enough, but it does have issues with edge warps…
Caution: doesn't work on all warps, and can scorch colored vinyl for some reason.
Right! This was my first attempt. I still have much testing to do. Currently attempting a severe edge warp, going on my second round now…it’s not looking good, lol. Thanks for the tips!
This is definitely worth noting. I ruined a colored RSD release a couple years ago. Bummed me out.
huh, and it doesn't affect the width of the grooves? i thought the heat would.
Well, much more extreme heat is used to initially make the grooves, 350 degrees, and the Vinyl Flat generates far less. If used as intended, the grooves will be fine. It can definitely melt some grooves if left unattended for many hours.
@@JLeeeP thank you Jeff!
What happens if you don't use the heat? Have you tried that?
They say you don’t have to, but it takes much longer and they recommend doing that to very expensive records to be on the safe side. I will continue to test. This was my first attempt. Cheers and happy new year!
So all the dust/dirt is melted into the grooves?
You clean the records first. Duh. It's all explained in the instructions.
CGI!?!?? Don't believe is real!!!
Well this is my first attempt, there’s no way it will always be that easy!
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL definitely need one!!! Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas🤘🤘🍻🍻
