Epica are a Dutch symphonic metal band, formed in 2002. They have evolved significantly in that time. The contrast between their voices is kind of their trademark. Epica use live musicians and choirs in the studio for their albums and use those same recordings as backing tracks live when they don’t have a real orchestra. Retrospect was a 3 hour show so there is a lot of material in just that one show. I would recommend Unleashed, Serenade of Self Destruction, The Divine Conspiracy and Design Your Own Universe from that show.
Yes, their studio versions always have orchestras and choirs, that's why they fall in the Symphonic Metal subgenre ;) And no, unfortunately, they don't always tour with a full orchestra and choir. This concert was for their 10th anniversay and last September they did another one for their 20th.
A stroke of genius to request this song! It shows both the soft and the hard side of Epica! I get the sense that you didn't quite take to the harsh vocals. Most Epica tracks include both vocalists, but here are some that are clean-only: * Quietus (Retrospect version preferred) * Unleashed (Retrospect version preferred) * Illusive Consensus ("We will take you with us" version preferred) * Blank Infinity ("Live at Paradiso" version preferred) And some Epica ballads are also clean-only: * Twin Flames (Retrospect version preferred) * Delirium (Retrospect version preferred) * Rivers (a capella Omega Alive version preferred) * Once Upon A Nightmare (Omega Alive version preferred)
Epica is one of the biggest symphonic metal bands today. The heavy use of orchestra and/or synthesizer is typical in symphonic metal. Live performances with orchestra are therefore possible, but rare due to the effort and expense involved. In 2002, growler Mark Jansen left the band After Forever and founded Epica with his girlfriend Simone Simons. The band is named after the album of the same name by Kamelot, a melodic metal band. The two are still the main songwriters today. They are no longer together in private. Simone's role model is Tarja Turunen, the first singer of Nightwish and the reference band in symphonic metal: NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE) Another Epica song, also with orchestra: Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Other symphonic bands: VISIONS OF ATLANTIS - To Those Who Choose to Fight + Land of the Free live @ Lyon | Armada Tour 2024 Within Temptation - The Reckoning (feat. Amy Lee from Evanescence) live at the Worlds Collide Tour DELAIN - Masters Of Destiny (Official Video) | Napalm Records More Chello? Apocalyptica feat. Simone Simons - Rise Again (Live in London)
The growl in that piece made a lot of sence. It is the voice the drug addict hears in his head, which demands his dosis. Not my favourit song by Epica, but still top notch.
"New music" I'm not giving up.. On Their RUclips channel .... Experience The band called "THE WARNING" ..Try Dust to Dust/Dull Knives (cut better) Live at the Pepsi Center cdmx .. 3 Sisters from Mexico absolutely brilliant Rock Band.. try Evolve live at the MTV VMA'S 2023🌎✌️
Def check out design your universe live retrospect and unleashed live retrospect aswell, both are even better, if you want a sad song from them listen to solitary ground live paradiso ;)
Dancers? Metal bands don’t lower themselves to have pop styles dancers on stage 😝 Considering you knew what the subject of the song title was you talked over a lot of the singing and missed them. You have just watched one of the best bands in the world so a big rabbit hole for you to explore.
@@redguern i think dancing and music is art, no matter the genre involved, I don't see why dancing couldn't be involved with metal. I've seen it before, it adds to the performance. Of course, these didn't turn out to be dancers per se, but I don't think there would have been any "lowering" if they would have been, in my opinion. It's all about feeling the emotions conveyed in the end. Music does it through sound, dancing does it through movement and it's beautiful to see. Excited to dig deeper in the rabbit hole!
@ I appreciate your comments, dancing in metal is not for me though, I’ll leave that for pop songs. Look forward to you watching more Epica, perhaps you could look at their Omega Alive concert. Once upon a Nightmare would be a good one.
Love the band, would recommend the latest release Epica - Arcana (live Symfonic Synergy). There are sooo many good songs by this band 😁.
If you like chello and a bit more of Epica then you might want to check out Epica - Rivers @Afas Live as well (with apocalyptica!)
Hi Wyllow, here is very recent performance, this is absolutely EPIC :)
