Nightwish did a new version with Floor recently, featuring Henk Poort, one of Floor's childhood idols. He actually played the Phantom in the dutch version of Phantom of the Opera, and if my memory serves me right, he was Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite Phantom.

Tarja was the first singer but was sadly sacked straight after this concert. To me she is Nightwish although Floor is good. Tarja wasn't treated very well and the way she was sacked and slandered was disgusting. You should check out other songs from the same dvd.

Thanks for requesting this Duskwind. No matter how many times I hear it I am always amazed at how well the style fits the story. Tarja's lovely classical voice and Marko's crazy metal vocals fit, and you don't expect them to. The harmonies are fantastic. But then, one of Marko's superpowers is his ability to harmonize with anyone.

This is the first singer, Tarja Turunen. In 2001, she announced that she wanted to leave the band because she wanted to finish her classical studies in Germany in 2002/03 and then continue working in the classical field. The band managed to persuade her to continue, but on her terms. This video was shot at the last concert of the tour. Immediately afterwards, she was fired in the dressing room. The band accused her of turning into a diva. 2026 is Nightwish's 30th anniversary and Tarja could imagine performing with the band again, on her terms. Tarja remained successful after that too. The song was only performed live.

I just love that when Marko sings, you can just feel, that something sinister is about to happen.

Beste Zangers Phantom of the Opera performance with Floor and Henk Poort is not as crazy as the this performance, but it is still the best and closest thing to the Broadway musical type singing.

Two reasons why this song was never meant to be sung in an "operatic" voice (modern classical vocal technique, with consistent larynx drop & way too wide vibrato). 1) Obvious one, but still: it's musical theatre, not opera 2) The 20th C style of singing "opera" is a modern deviation from the way opera was supposed to sound Check out the fun & informative video on the YT ch Phantoms of the Opera, titled "Where opera went wrong". Great reaction, your face was a picture when you heard Marko and Tarja together, their performance 🎭 was superb. Floor did two performances of this, one with Nightwish after Marko had left with Henk Port the original Dutch Phantom also with him on the Beste Zangers show, that would be an interesting idea to watch the two together as one is live thebother is live but in studio conditions. Tarja has a much more operatic voice than Floor and to a point at that stage was a bit of a one trick pony, it was only after she left Nightwish she realised she needed to diversify. There’s a few very interesting and fun collaborations she’s done with some very unlikely others! I may put one in Kofi for you, get those new headphones!

I hadn’t heard any of these piano covers either, didn’t know they existed! What a great experience, it was wonderful for me, I have synesthesia so music affects me by seeing colours and patterns. This was just so relaxing and pleasing, I shall definitely look to find some more of these, and possibly download them! Thanks for sharing this piece, it’s so cool and interesting.

Something that you should know about FLOOR JANSEN. She started singing in a symphonic metal band at just 16 years old. After Forever (1995-2009). Then she created a new Progressive Metal band, ReVamp (2009-2016). In 2018 she released a personal Hard Rock project (Northward). In 2012, she was invited by Nightwish to finish their world tour, after the band's second female singer (Annete Olzon) left. In 2013 she became Nightwish's full time lead Vocalist. She is a singing teacher. She sings in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and Latin. She sings Heavy Metal, THrash Metal, Pop, Rock, Symphonic Metal, Aria and Opera. She even sang rap. In March 2023 she launched her first Pop solo album "Paragon". THE BEST SINGER TODAY IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

Floor is just a surprise package where you never know what's coming. When she covered Shallow, everyone thought she was singing it full of power - instead she softened it. With Ave Maria, she did it the other way around. And that's what I love about this woman - she is able to turn the most tender ballad into a metal song and interpret the hardest metal as a ballad. I really wouldn't be surprised if she would sing Pantera's heaviest song as an opera aria at some point.

The arrangement is by Tommy Johansson (check his performances) formerly Sabaton. Usually Tommy is playing all the instruments as well... The instrumentals are too high in the mix, but at the end Floor is blowing them away! Floor has a wolf tat behind her left ear and a dog behind her right ear as that is part of her character: off stage gentle, on stage a beast....

Floor’s solo performances are nothing short of stunning, in particular the performances from Beste Zangers and her performance of Disney’s Frozen. She is indeed one of the best singers in the world today!
