Nice work. The spot you chose to mount the trickle charger is excellent. It will be protected yet accessible. When I plug in a block heater, I always hang the cord over the driver's side mirror. That way, I can never get in and just drive away and forget it's plugged in.

Yes Steve, maintainers work and work well in our climats and the extend the battery life. I have one on my tractor at the camp and when I get there the battery is tops but some year it’s going to fail me I’m sure and at home I have one on my truck for the winter time but it’s in the garage and I don’t use it all winter. Then plug you go sure look like they do a neat installation and is something to consider.....CHEERS

Battery minders are a great investment and having that constant triple of electricity also causes heat internally and that is a must! Because as you know if your battery freezes, its done!
    Good one Steve✌

Great. Now I've got another bright idea. I might have to rig something like this up in my snowmobile trailer to keep the batteries on the sleds topped up. Thanks alot Steve. Haha

      Hi Doug
Vehicles start real good these days on a fully charged battery . A block heater is pretty much obsolete today as most vehicles don't have them anymore as standard equipment. Block heater and trickle charger is a great match for real cold areas.

I did it a bit differently, I have the charger out board and use 2 Pin Quick Disconnect mounted to the plastic front skirt with a weather protective cap. Truck is in the garage everyday, so the charger is safe and sound. Then 7 feet or so of 10 gauge to the battery.
Great set up and great video!

    Thats awesome
I'll have to get that plug setup for my truck. My current plug setup runs a block heater and ceramic heater that warms the cab up in the winter. I have a timer on the outdoor outlet to cycle the system so its not constantly using hydro.

How's she goin'? I have never seen a cord like that for the vehicle but it sure is decent and the answer to your problem eh!! The installation is excellent and it was a great idea to use the waterproof enclosure for the battery maintainer. Well done Steve!! Take 'er easy!!

Jason on my F150 or my Silverado just sitting for one week in cold weather drops the battery voltage down to about 12.3 -12.4 . During the winter both are plugged in 24/7 . Makes a huge difference on a real cold start. 🥶

I'm lucky enough to have an oversized two car heated garage. I also remember living in a condo with only an outdoor spot. I had a block heater, one of those inline coolant heaters, an oil pan heater and heated battery blanket. What's your opinion on a heated battery blanket vs trickle /maintainer charger?

      Hi Bruce
A warm discharged battery never starts your car at --40 like a fully charged battery:)

Do you use those sticky pad heaters also? I’ve worked on a few trucks from up in your area and they’ve got those on the engine oil pan, transmission pan and differential cover.

I don't use any heaters at all , I find keeping the battery charged the best option.
