  • The Jeep Wrangler rear cargo power outlet can be changed from ignition to battery with a slight fuse replacement. Not only the Jeep Wrangler 4xe but also the Jeep gladiator and the Jeep Wrangler 392 have this option.

that socket shows a picture showing the battery, and as with mh 2019 JLUR its set by default to always live. I'd need to move that fuse to make if off the ignition. By the way, I also have the aux switches....and these can be set through the radio settings... you can toggle how they're set, between ignition and battery. Very useful.

There does not appear to be a similar option for doing this to the 12V outlet in the dash, but it doesn't appear that it would be too difficult to come up with something that would allow that outlet to be powered by the battery all the time (BATT) instead of just when the ignition (IGN) is on. This is a lot lengthier to explain than it actually would take to do it, but I'll give it a try. If you have a short attention span, you probably should just stop reading at that point and live with whatever the factory gave you. :)
Ideally, the fuse panel could be easily removed and the wires switched around on the back of the panel, but considering how owner-unfriendly that other things are in the JLs, I doubt that this would be a quick and easy modification.
On the other hand, it would be possible to create a fused jumper that integrated with the existing sockets such that the 12V power outlet was receiving BATT instead of IGN. To do this, you need to remember that the fuse connector has two contacts on it. One goes to the power source circuit (i.e. BATT or IGN) and the other goes to the device that is to be powered. You will need to pull the fuses from the 12V power outlet (F52 on my JL) and use a multimeter to identify which of the two contacts is on the power side and which is on the device side. You can do this by turning the ignition on and using a multimeter (voltage mode) with one lead touching the negative pole on the battery (or the metal frame of the vehicle), touch each side of the fuse holder to see which one shows 12V. The side that shows 12V is the power source for this fuse and you do NOT want to be hooking to it. What you basically need to do is to take a BATT source from another fuse socket and route it to just the device side of the 12V power outlet. Of course, you want this to have a fuse on it and to not change the fact that the existing BATT source is also fused.
This could be accomplished via an "add-a-circuit" fuse kit. Something similar to this:
    www.amazon.com/Circuit-Adapter-Profile-Dual-slot-Holders/dp/B08MZY1LZF
Just get the one that is the same physical size fuses that is in your vehicle and has sufficient amperage rating. I believe that you would need a 20A rating for the 12V power outlet. The above link is only for 5A and 10A, so you'll need to search for a properly rated one.
You will need 2 of them -- one for the dash's 12V power outlet circuit and the other for the new power source circuit.
If you look at the "add-a-circuit" unit, you will see that there are two blades at the bottom that need to plug into the existing fuse receptacle and space for 2 fuses to be inserted into the unit. One side of the unit will have a wire coming out of it for the new circuit that you are wanting to add and the other side will be plain (flat).
From looking at photos of the unit, I would suspect that the flat side is going to be hooked to the power source (BATT or IGN) side of the fuse receptacle and the side with the wire coming out of it will be on device side of the circuit. The bottom fuse receptacle is most likely for the existing circuit and the top fuse receptacle is most likely for the new circuit (i.e. the wire coming out of the unit). There should be an electrical connection that you can verify via a multimeter (checking for resistance) between the blade that goes into the fuse receptacle in the fuse box and the flat side of the add-a-circuit unit (with the fuses removed from the unit). Without fuses in the unit, checking for resistance between the wire side blade and the lower and upper fuse receptacles should show an open circuit.
To make this converter device / jumper, you will need to take two of the add-a-circuit units and connect the wires to each other -- crimp, solder, heatshrink, whatever you feel comfortable with for the connection in insulation. One of the units will plug into the fuse receptacle that has the BATT connection and the other will plug into the fuse receptacle that is for the 12V power outlet. They will not be plugged in the same direction though. Also, you do not want fuses in every receptacle on the add-a-circuit units. On the unit that plugs into the BATT connection, you will want both fuses, but on the unit that plugs into the 12V power outlet, you will only need one fuse and it will be in the top fuse slot on the add-a-circuit unit. You will need to plug the end that plugs into the 12V power outlet into the fuse receptacle so that the blade that is opposite the wire goes into the device side slot of the fuse receptacle in the fuse block. If you get this wrong, you will be cross linking the BATT and IGN power sources which could be a BAD thing. On the end that plugs into the BATT connection, you will want to plug it in so that the side with the wire is on the device side and the side without the wire is on the BATT side.
Drawings would make this a lot easier to explain... Maybe I'll do that at some point and come back and post a link to them.
One concern might be whether these add-a-circuit units will physically fit in the space available in the Jeep's fuse box. I haven't tried this yet, so I don't know. The 12V power outlet's fuse is very close to a bank of relays, so the connector might fit one, but not the other. Depending which connector in the socket goes to the power source and which one goes to the device, it might be difficult to shoehorn the connector in there. Depending upon which fuse socket you choose for the BATT source, you might run into the same problem for it, depending upon how the power and device terminals are oriented on the receptacle. If there is a spacing issue, there is another option that I've seen that looks similar to a fuse with a quick connect terminal on one side of it. It wouldn't be as clean looking, but it could be made to work with an additional inline fuse.

Is there a way to disable the power always being on for outlet #2 in the center console? We have a wireless link for the Uconnect hidden in there, but we have to disconnect it every time when we get home or are within range of the device after exiting the vehicle. If not, it'll keep trying to connect to our phones.

Great videos! I just watched a couple of them - Using the 4xe as a generator and getting the cargo outlet to stay on.
Question regarding output of the cargo outlet - is it really 20 amps? The fuse suggests that. Reason I ask is that I am interested in running a Hcalory diesel heater and can't find a solar generator with more than 10 amp output from the cigarette outlet. There seems to be an issue where during startup, the heater glow plug draws around 150 watts, which exceeds the rated output of most solar generators' 10amp capacity or 120 watts. If the 4xe cargo output really is 20 amps (240 watts) then I would be able to use that as a power source for the diesel heater. I would be sure to unplug the driver door connector and turn the ignition switch to "run".
Side question, would the high voltage battery also charge the 12 v battery or inverter in the "acc" position?
    Thanks!
