I think the reason Henry/Bud was left in the snow and not rescued is because the emergency personnel couldn't see him, similar to when Jo was seemingly unseen or heard by the cleaners emptying her office. I think sometimes the characters phase out of whichever universe they're in temporarily, either as an after effect or a precursor to switching universes. 😊

I agree as when Henry/Bud got to the snow part both Alices where there in the distorted mirror space and Jo told other Alice to go back to her father, then shortly after that Jo was back in the second space ready to be rescued, but as Henry/Bud was not conscious he was still in that distorted mirror space until he woke up and everyone was gone.

The man/men that Jo see's at the facility is Vladimir Illyushin!
Illya says in ep3 while thy are walking to Paul's grave (after Jo shows them the pic of Irena in her USSR suit) "You know I heard from a guy that Gararin was not first in space. It was Vladimir Illyushin, But he crashed in China so they brought him home and locked him up."

I think the CAL might be in Jo, that’s why she was able to see both men upstairs, also the way Paul was looking at both arms, (remember his arm was crushed in space) that may be the dead Paul back to life somehow and the dead Jo back alive somehow in space (remember they left the body up there)…I don’t know…but something about the CAL getting destroyed may have caused some funky quantum resurrections lol

    • @JThursday
      @JThursday 5 месяцев назад +4

this is a genius theory. the implication of Paul swapping though....is that the one who didn't die (and left Jo's body in space) is now buried 6ft underground. UNLESS the Paul who was shot actually died and the other Paul's consciousness shifted into this body since this universe is its "home" universe?

    • @kristineclevenger6705
      @kristineclevenger6705 5 месяцев назад +2

Jo definitely has a close relationship with the CAL, as does Alice & to some extent Magnus. They are linked as a family. My impression was that Paul was surveying the medical tubes attached to his arms, but I watched again & see the possibility of his seeing 2 intact arms also. I never accepted that Jo immediately died after the horrid eye injury. To me, her breathing indicated a comatose state. In that state can her subtle body leave & move around the ISS? She pushed the red button. Her body will decay, or does the CAL energy prolong the life force? It's all mysterious.

Something no one is mentioning is that there are three cassette players. We saw two in this episode, but one melted in the cabin fire. This further supports the idea that we've been watching three universes.

I was thinking the same with the "third Cabin", the colors and everything madme think it was some kind of "interdimentional connection point" but not exactly a dimension like the other 2
. Now that i think of it, there was a cat, then a dead cat, and both at the same place/time, might have been "the same" cat.

    • @nykster1014
      @nykster1014 5 месяцев назад +2

Wouldn’t it be “four”, since one of them has a dead cat, an additional black cat, and the other abandoned cabin only has the one cat alive? I think it’s more like those universes’ “upside down” version of each other (like stranger things).

    • @JulieBarbara
      @JulieBarbara 2 месяца назад +1

The cassette player thing confused the hell out of me. We saw one of them burn up and I think the other was dropped in the snow or something (I could be remembering wrong). Then in the finale we see both of them magically back in the homes of both Alices. I don't understand that at all. I also wonder why they had to communicate with each other that way. Henry and Bud, who are also quantum-entangled, communicated solely by talking to each other in the mirror, no cassette player needed. The Alices could see each other in the mirrors, but they needed the cassette player. I think that was probably just used as a fun plot device TBH. Finally, I found it strange that the Alices were quantum-entangled without having been to space. I could explain it if they only interacted when they were near the CAL but they interacted even when it wasn't around. I think one of their necklaces was up in space with Jo and then brought back, so maybe the necklace served as a bridge?

I think the comment made to Joe about her not letting the mystery go eventually leading to her “splitting into two” is inferring that when a person switches places with their counterpart of another universe and doesn’t mentally adapt to their new life in their new universe, it can lead to them somehow being susceptible to having the consciousnesses of themselves from both universes swapped.
Irene left the one universe in the 60s or whatever and went to the other and she maybe kept investing into what had happened to herself and it caused her to be alive in her new universe, as well as giving some form of animation or partial life into her corpse still orbiting in space though now occupied by the consciousness of her counterpart from the universe she now lives in.
I think that’s what we’re seeing with Paul waking up with so much surprise in the hospital bed at the end of the finale. We’re seeing maybe the mind of the Paul that died in space, returning to his proper universe where he’d just been shot by bud. Paul had kept asking questions and kept investigating and it opened him up to being displaced between universes.
In the article shown in the video above, the interview with the show runner also had him stating that the persons emotional state also played a factor in their ability to become displaced between universes.
Obviously the most blatant example is Joe herself. She’s the most emotionally distraught character and is experiencing the most displacement bleed-through. And in the end I think we’re seeing this causing her corpse on the iss in her origin universe to get some sort of life, though occupied by the consciousness of her counterpart as a result.
As an aside, I also concluded that the characters are being displaced between universes only in a psychological capacity. Their consciousnesses are moving but their bodies are remaining and being occupied by the consciousnesses of their counterparts. I think this explains why Joe can play the piano when she originally could not in her origin universe. I think the skill of playing an instrument is inferred to create a physical change the brain and that she inherited the skill as the new occupant of the brain that had learned to play the piano.
Damn. I’m like… 75% sure I just figured this thing out.

Reminds me of how they dropped the ball with Lost but that show maintained its momentum for the first couple of seasons at least. The later seasons were designed to turn the intrigue up to 11. Eventually, things became so chaotic that they were incomprehensible even to the writers themselves.
I don't understand why Constellation didn't give us more exposition about the causes of the bizarre phenomenon that propelled the plot forward. That ending left us underwhelmed, like being denied just before climax (apologies for the rather vulgar analogy). Feeling obscurely worse, really.

One idea I had about why Valya and Jo are alive, even though their body is essentially dead... the thought being that since THAT body's consciousness swapped with the alternate universe, then she cannot die unless her consciousness is brought back to her body. Since the consciousness that belongs to the body she currently inhabits is in HER original body, then theoretically the consciousness is still alive, but in a dead body.
It seems very plausible considering Irena said she felt like "floating endlessly around the earth"... which her actual body is doing in that moment. So it would make since that Valya is manipulating Alice somehow in the hopes of eventually getting back to her own body.

I think "Blue Jo" is dead. At least as dead as "Blue Irena/Valya".
    1. There was not really an explaination why "Red Jo", "Henry" and maybe both "Alice-Versions" had moments when they saw the mummified "Valya"?
    2. There was also not an explaination how the dead body of "Valya" was into both universes causing both ISS accidents? (She was also seen floating away in the Universe where "Paul Lancaster" survived. But since they made no spacewalk in the "Lancaster survives"-version and no one freed the body after the crash... where there two different versions of "dead Valya"?
    3. Then there is the biggest Question about "Blue Jo": She seems to be at the ISS where the Pad of "Red Jo" is?
If ESA-, or NASA-Astronauts or Russian Cosmonauts would start a salvation mission to the damaged ISS what (or who) will they find?
    4. Again, "Dead Valya". "Dead Valya" seems not to be just a "Hallucination or Vision" but she must have communicated, since "Alice" knows her name.
And she seems to "haunt" people for her own reasons.
Is it possible that "Dead Jo" will also start to haunt people? Both "Dead Valya" and "Dead Jo" have the same thing in common now: A dead body in space in the "entanglement zone" and a living counterpart in the wrong universe.
    5. In the very last scene, "Dead Jo" grabbed the I-Pad of "Red Jo". She can move and interact with physical objects.
In both versions of the survivors, "Blue Paul" and "Red Jo", the ISS computer tells them, that the capsule can not undock, unless two person on the ISS do the needed work manually.
"Undead Red Jo", who can grab and hold I-Pads, may be the explaination why the capsule undocked.
But I think the message, how TWO PERSONS were necessary to undock the capsule, was a hint? Maybe "Undead Jo" is not alone on the ISS?
    6. Since "Undead Blue Jo" is able to move and interact with objects, is it possible that "Undead Valya" was also able to do this and crashed into the ISS on purpose, for her own reasons?
I mean, maybe "Undead Valya" knows that "Red Valya/Irena" will soon die and she is afraid of what will happen to her when she is floating in her undead state forever when her living counterpart is dead? (So maybe crashing in he ISS was not a bad intention but she wanted to be found before "Red Valya/Irena" is dead?)
I want a second season. Even if the show already seems more like a supernatural "Space Ghost Story" than a Science-Fiction-Story.
(Also I love Noomi Rapace. So I want a second season anyway.)

The CAL is an observational window into the multiverse and while it allows contact, it only is observational. While it isn’t spinning off universes itself, it is allowing opportunities for universes to be created through observation. it is a box for the cat to be placed in with the subjective output being life and death at the same time. As infinite universes are created with the direction of every acted on decision, this opens a window to discuss Schrödingers postulate through actions, experiences and consequences. The first astronaut, Irena, and Bud all went into “the cat box” with the additional perk of being able to observe the outcomes experientially becoming cognizant of their rolls in multiple entangled universes. All without the CAL. It appears that entanglement is exacerbated by the CAL as blue and red alice were able to take advantage of the observational bridges between universes by close contact with the CAL. It would be interesting to know what is the natural universe splitter that is occurring without the CAL to the astronauts, something to do with the magnetic field protecting us all from cognitively experiencing multiple universes. Perhaps?

    • @hiadrianbankhead

I think that the "natural universe splitter" is the condition of liminality itself - the condition of not being observed - thus freeing the quantum nature of the universe from having to choose one reality over all others. I think that the CAL is a quantum computer - and quantum computers work on this exact principle - except that the CAL creates a superposition field that surrounds the people who are close to it.

The viewer assumes there are only two realities and so we assume all the characters are doubles/swaps of one another. But they’re not. The main clue is that both astronauts are in different realities, which if there’s only one swap wouldn’t have happened - one astronaut would have remained in the same reality and the other would have swapped with their dead double. But everything has shifted for everyone. So as this realisation sinks in as the viewer I’m steadily coming to terms with the sheer hopelessness of it all. We’re never going home. So why is he left in the snow? Well that particular version in the particular reality may have never had the emergency services called out? Even Bud thinks the helix will spin the other way - he thinks we’re dealing with an antimatter kind of deal where everything is reversed. But that’s not the paradigm, infinite versions of them have all just shifted over to another reality. Honestly it gave me chills every time some kind of inconsistency happened.

Bud left overnight in the snow was a terrible way to start the finale. It made me expect all plot conveniences were going to be preposterous. I wish we had more answers but I understand they have to keep a lot of plot devices open for potential future seasons. Irena's memo was another eye-roller. Her whole career was keeping this super secret that she's now revealing in an email to ask someone if perchance they've noticed anything unusual? I think it was a writers' mistake for Irena to tell Jo that she can never get back. We know this isn't true because of the Bud/Henry switch. Jo's return was the driving narrative in all of season 1 and now that's gone? The new twins in the hospital and this weird memo just aren't enough enticement.

Irena told Jo there's only 1 upstairs. His traumatized personality split into 2 sides of the same coin. It's all a guess as to who the baby will be, but if the man upstairs is still living when the baby is born, then it won't be him reincarnating. We'll see. Irena's email didn't bother me, as we are each allowed to make new decisions based on insights. Maybe Jo's honesty & sharing with Irena that "It's you" (the dead cosmonaut) & then repeating what Irena said in space about the fire somehow triggered her to send the email. Who knows?

But he would also die of starvation because of how our bodies use chiral (molecules that can’t be superimposed on their mirror images). They had to preempt that by saying even though the world is “the wrong way round” his body somehow down to the molecular level switched to the right way round even though his brain etc didn’t

The only thing that didn't make sense was that the jo left in the station was still alive with half her head gone , they'll cover that up if it does happen and leave her there to die.
The hard part was knowing she had no way of getting back , obviously the girls could still talk but the one who lost her mom was moving away and doing so it would probably break the link they had and the ignorant father just couldn't take his childs word for it , what I do with my family is put them first before anything else and try to help them find the truth what ever it may be , where's the unconditional love there ?
The two were battling it alone in both worlds , the men were selfish and I didn't like those characters , that was the saddest thing to see Jo and Alice having to accept the fact that they were powerless .
I was hoping that she would make her way back but that imposter smashed the atom and destroyed any possible future for returning to her world and there was no body to return to to begin with .
We know our physical bodies are stuck in time and place, but we can move our consciousness into the fourth dimension so there is a way to travel through multiverse without the module, Atom ,
Meditation exercises used today take us into a much higher plain , why not into the next body .
I guess this season is over , I'm hoping it has a second season , this is one of my favorites for shows.

  • @JulieBarbara

This show did frustrate me at first, but I actually loved that it didn't spoon-feed us an overly simplistic narrative explaining what's going on, like Dark Matter has done so far. I enjoyed trying to figure out the different universes and the quantum-entangled counterparts to each character. The time discrepancies are the only thing that still frustrate me because that makes zero sense, the differences in the years that you pointed out. You actually noticed one that I haven't seen others notice and that I missed - the 2020 date. WTF? I think if they really intended to introduce different timelines in addition to different universes, that was foolish and nonsensical in an already deeply complex series.
I think the astronauts were able to switch with their counterparts before the CAL existed simply because they were in space - there was a quote earlier in the season that said "there's something about space that is wrong." I believe the CAL device created a bridge for people to cross between universes to their quantum-entangled counterpart WHILE ON EARTH, not just in space, and that was a game changer. I think it also was capable of creating a liminal space between the universes where people could interact with their counterparts, which is why we saw the weird in-between universes at the cabin when the device was taken there. And Henry switched places with Bud because Henry was near the CAL device at the cabin and going through a high-stress experience at the same time as Bud, who had just shot Paul (another high-stress experience). Crossing over seems to require a bridge like the CAL and a high-stress or traumatic event occurring on both sides, in my opinion. I think if this show hadn't been canceled, the baby might have served as the new CAL, a bridge point between worlds, because it was conceived by people from two different universes.

The 2 people above are the one in that universe and the other probably in the liminal space or in the other universe.

Here it is. The main ingredient isn't actually the CAL, though it might be the cause. The main ingredient is the "lithium". There are 2 different men in the cell upstairs and this is the direct result of not taking the lithium. Valya knows it hence "you will break into 2". Bud was able to crossover because he wasn't taking his pills. Season 2 will see Henry also not taking his pills, maybe because of being incarcerated and he and Bud, who isn't taking his anyway, start to appear in the same time continuum. Jo, still not really satisfied, won't take hers either, so guess who's coming back?? Yep, the one eyed Jo in space. Valya already knows the consequences of not taking hers so the dead Valya won't be back, or maybe. The "lithium" is what stops 2 or more of the same person existing in the same plane.

The CAL devise amplifies the crossover phenomena -- makes them more real and allows some communication between the realities. Prior to the CAL, crossovers DO happen -- but with the CAL, they can be percieved more clearly. One of Henry's first comments to Bud was about the CAL (even tho Bud doesn't know about it) and Henry says, It doesn't work and it makes things even worse, leading me to believe that Henry was motivated by understanding or bridging the 2 realities with the CAL.
The bigger mystery is why the 2 Alices have a much clearer connection -- as they were never in the vicinity of the CAL -- unless they were affected by the proximity of the IPAD.

First - great editing. Absolutely loved the production value of this video
2 - being a major science nerd, i think the creators kinda put their own twist onto some multiverse theory with a little quantum entanglement sprinkled on. It was a pretty major disappointment to realize that they mixed up some ideas and let the fiction part of sci-fi take precedent when the story needed it. In the interview, they said they tried to stick to the rules that they hinted at. It makes me think that they were more focused on crafting a compelling narrative instead of remaining consistent with some previously established mechanisms for how things were supposed to function. I agree that there were too many loose ends and not enough pay off. Perhaps dead Jo undocked Soyuz 1 from the ISS station for alive Paul, and dead Paul undocked Soyuz 1 from the ISS station for alive Jo (because it required two people -- one in the capsule and one in the station). It occurs to me that hyper focusing on the tech misses the core of the show which is about loss, letting go and acceptance. When we lose people we lament the time we had was never enough, always wanting more. The heart of this show tells you to embrace what you have and not cry for yesterday, especially since slipping in and out of realities makes it seem possible to "go back". Also there is another cal device in the ISS behind the other Jo. And I think the shock therapy brought her back in the ISS in the same universe as Jo A. I'm of the opinion that both Relativity and Quantum Mechanics may be true to explain the aberrations in time. If time and position can be 'toyed' with, then almost anything is possible. To simplify matters for this story arc, some facets will have to be assumed to be true. That matter (people/machines) in the same space will act in tandem sometimes (in groups of twos or threes), and differ otherwise (red/blue/recorder melted). Since they are somehow connected, they will be able to sense each other. That ability to sense can vary in intensity even to a point where they inhabit the other version of themselves (Paul). Intense trauma seems to initiate some occurrences, a lost child, fire, explosions, death. Lithium would supress this. As one entity experiences injury so does the other, albeit marginally, and as one experiences ongoing life so does the other, even after physical death as transpired. It is hinted at that conflicting perceptions may lead to the creation of a duality which is then physically manifested (2 Cosmonauts). The aspect of time being non linear and fragmented, confirmed by time stamps are found on machines or Items which are affected by the entanglement (Video, door opening?, burning cabin).

If we take the theory of an infinite number of alternate universes existing, each one differing ever so slightly from the one "next to it," then it all kinda makes sense. Problem with that is that there is literally no end to this show, it could run 6 quadrillion seasons, each presenting new alternate timelines, and while dizzying, there can be no true end to such a show.. which presents the producers with an interesting problem 😁 Let's hope there is at least ONE more season, but no more, as this risks turning the show into a mess of a maze, one which viewers will loose interest in. Sadly. Thus far it has been brilliant.

definitely a lot of questions in the air. Are those Twins her children if they calling mama to her some how? Also those tapes seem to play clear when near that device. Also Jo being alive and dead was strange for me but then again, someone unclamped the escape pod.

One noteworthy thing no one talks about is at the start the dead Irena was trapped in space until Jo pulled her out and she fell to earth, Now dead Irena is back on the ground allowing those that see the mirror universe to see her.
Also might be why Irena is now sick with cancer and speeding up as dead Irena is back as all that radiation in space is bleeding through.
Unlike Henry/Bud that both returned to earth. (both alive)
Paul that the live and dead one returned to earth. (one dead buried one alive on earth)
And do disconnected from life said those alful things to Alive about her mum, he is emotionally numb or could say dead inside. So this is why Paul may be going more crazy than Jo as he is living in a world where he should be dead and those states bleeding through.
Jo is in the similar situation as Irena was where her dead self was trapped in space. (one dead in space living in the mirror reality and one earth)
Maybe because of the forced separation for Jo like Irena had has different implications on the separated particles.
They make a point that a lot of the time those particles find their way together like them making the point in the last episode of the 2 Magnus in the psychology office.
And might be why Irena makes a point its easier if you go along with what you are meant to be doing rather than fight against it otherwise that pull/push of the mirror state bleeds through more and more as those quantum states are linked and makes you crazy trying to split you in two. (and I think she means mentally)

If the men locked in the room call Joe Mama, maybe they are two-dimensional twins she is pregnant with. 🤔

More seriously, one says mama and the other Бога нет (which translated is there is no god). A slogan from Russian propaganda from the 60s. Searching on Google you find a poster with a drawing of a cosmonaut on a space walk and below it a church with the anti-religious slogan in the middle.

I hope there is a season 2. Heaps of exciting ideas still to be fleshed out. Plus the ultrasound looks like the CAL image, not a fetus. I enjoyed the show and loved the actors so it could be a winner for Apple TV.

It may be that The Cal can cause crossover events *before* it was created (because of quantum tunneling or something) but I admit that this is a stretch.

Don't forget that the ipad was left by the Jo that returned to earth, hence the ipad should not be in the same universe as the Jo that was left behind. What does that mean? Since humans seem to be the ones that jump from universe to universe, does that now mean that death Jo is now also present in blue universe where red (live) Jo now lives?
Is it similar to my previous question. If alive Irena is in one universe, how come both dead bodies where shown in both? Does that mean that both dead Jos are now present in both universes?

Going way back but in the episode where Joe has to move all the batteries, she then goes back into the other side of the ISS with an oxygen tank and mask. I thought that was the reason that she couldn't work the whole time on the batteries was the oxygen so why didn't she use the oxygen tank to retrieve batteries

Okay, I think the baby will become the new “CAL,” aka he or she, as a result of being from both sides, will be that beacon that causes the weak points between both universes, allowing for crossovers. That’s my theory, but I’ve always wondered how both Alice’s can see the other’s universes?

Prior to the finale, I was firmly in team time jumps. There are several references to 2023, or dates that only exist in 2023 (not 2021) across multiple episodes.
But given how the finale played out (and what you noticed about 2020) I’m back to thinking this was just continuity error.

I really can’t accept how the last episode was conducted. It pass from physics and quantum mysteries to absolute mental health? Come one. This can’t be serious.
The ep1 to ep7 was so nice… well developed. The script took a way out with bud and Henry changing places without answering nothing. Did not uncover the mysteries from government… ahhh I need to stop complaining… it will change or answer nothing.

I thought Bud being left in the snow was weird too. They've dropped some hints about bud/henry I think that will be big in the plot next season. It seems like Henry caused his accident or something like that. Bud says he won the nobel prize so there must be something he invented back before the CAL which could have started the alternate reality nonsense. Also in one of the bud/henry scenes one of them is blaming the other for the accident but they don't really explain any further. Henry might have messed something up pre space in his original universe. I think Bud's accident will be central to next season's plot until the baby gets born. I also don't think there's any precedent for a character seeing two of another character at the same time like Jo saw the other prisoner. Zombie Jo just feels like a wacky jumpscare but this show love's the foggy zombie vibe so who knows. Bud universe paul might have actually died and been replaced by the paul that lost his arm by the way he was looking at his arms so now there is someone in Buds world who knows about the CAL.
