Today I showcase the LG 27GR95UM 4K 144hz MINI LED 1,560 zoned gaming monitor. A New Firmware update has been released by LG and it looks to improve Local Dimming quality by a good margin.
I show the improved Local Dimming difference on Launch Firmware vs. the new 3.05, 2.02 update.
With this update everything looks to be as it should. In SDR or HDR, nothing is washed out as before the update.

Thanks Viktor for addressing this monitor! Have you experienced problems with sudden dimming in HDR, particularly in Gamer 1 & 2 profiles as some users are reporting(last reviews in the LG official store) ?
Thx.. no dimming so far. I just updated 3 days ago. In HDR mode when I select an HDR video it dims but asnit should as its activating hdr. In windows 11 hdr (is not really hdr... its in sdr hdr more with the slider set at my,point) so when in win 11 home screen or my idle page its nice and bright.. then if I select an edited hdr video the screen dims a tad bit but i can see its hdr activating for that video. Also when in yt hdr videos.. no dimming as its already full screen. So far thats what I have seen. Im unboxing the new 32GS95UE OLED so i will see if it does the same so when I really review the mini led I can relay that info. The coating on the mini led is nice tho. Its not hazy oily like the oled versions.
I have. HDR on Desktop looks fine using Gamer 1 or 2, but if you play a game that has pretty much any contrasty scenes, the entire screen dims and stays that way (unless you maybe get a full white screen). It's some sort of inverse ABL. It kills the impact of HDR since it puts a limit on how bright the highlights can get. So frustrating because this could and should be an awesome monitor. I also have the Innocn 27m2v and Neo G7, and they do not do this at all in my experience. I'm hoping if enough people complain to LG about it, they will at least allow one "Gamer" HDR profile to not have this aggressive inverse ABL. Unfortunately, based on LG's replies to reviews and questions on the monitor's page, it seems they are not going to fix this. Hope I'm wrong.
I noticed this issue too. I’d love if Viktor could test this out in his next video. The SDR is great but the HDR is very poor.
They should make 2500+ dimming zones and price is same as OLED

Its a good monitor. Basically a Nano IPS with zones. So if you have had a Nano before you know what you expect. The matte costing is nice too. Its nicer vs the oled versions which is nice to see.
Does vrr+ local dimming flickers?
When doing the review, can you include some shots where the camera exposure has been tweaked so that the monitor matches real life? Because usually (like here) the blooming is very exaggerated on camera
I did raise the iso to show the improvement on the new firmware. But yes it will be more to eye level next time.
Mini led is the way to go. Oled is the past. Ask sony.
When its done correctly mini LED is nice and LG has some work to do. As far as OLED is the past i think more people dont wanna spend 1k+ on a tv / monitor just to baby sit it and to image retention can only go so far. Its going to burn in with the same content its just a matter of time. For some people it takes longer but its going to happen no way around it
For me. Ill take a step down from oled to mini LED to gain the non risk of burn in.

Awesome that this monitor has an update to fix most of its issues, if they made this in 32' size 240hz it would be an incredible monitor. does OLED dont have glow?
Gamer profiles 1 & 2 in HDR are still broken due to the fact the entire screen drastically dims (and stays dim) any time there is contrast on the screen. It's like inverse ABL and it ruins the impact of HDR in my opinion. I guess that was their fix to the blooming criticism (I got the monitor after the update). The other 3 presets don't seem to do this, but they have bad gama and contrast that can't be adjusted+plus have lower brightness (Gamer 2 is the only profile VESA certified for HDR).
I have noticed anytime hdr is on it dims (even if a small window) but otherwise in sdr its fine. In full screen hdr there is no issue. Like if 50%+ window its fine.
@@ViktorsReality Try playing an HDR game with heavy contrast on Gamer 2. During gameplay, switch from Gamer 2 to FPS and see how much brighter FPS is. (The first game I noticed this on was Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on Steam). And SDR is fine and looks great, but I bought this monitor for HDR...lol.

@@matthewkeller1696 sorry.. I like it. Still need to finish up some thing and check of there is a new 2nd update. Its basically a nano ips mini led screen. Ultra bright but nano is already very bright. So its brighter in sdr vs. Say a neo g7/8 etc. I will get to a video as soon as I can... only issue is hdr dimming the whole surrounding area when enabled. Still looks good to me but may bother ppl. Like if in hdr mode it transitions to dimm the area for an ultra bright dimming scene. Thats why im waiting for a firmware but i will show anyway soon.

Not yet. This so far is only at LG USA in the U.S.
I only see 25 reviews as of writing, with most complaining about the HDR performance, I can see clearly from your video this has been improved, but I'd be curious to see an in-depth examination. On paper, 1560 zones at 27" should make for a very nice experience.
Nano IPS + mini led is a nice change. This matte coating is nicer vs the oled versions. No oily hazy coating.

The local dimming performance of this monitor is disastrous. LG has good technology in oled, but poor in miniled.
The LG is cool, but it's outclassed by the Neo G8 in price and contrast.
The issue with the Neo g8 imo is that it eotf curve is completely messed up in hdr. It over brightens medium sized highlights then isn't able to reach a high enough brightness for larger scenes. Rtings measured a peak brightness of 422 cd/m^2(in real scenes) which is pretty lackluster for a mini led. Also the viewing angles are pretty bad but that is to be expected from a va panel. All of that would be fine considering the price it goes for on sale but the QC is pretty awful. My unit had pretty awful scanlines at 240hz(ik some people only had a bit) and alot of vrr flicker.
@@yevnal3609 Looks like panel variance plays a big role in how every unit is. Mine is practically flawless, no scanlines, backlight bleed or VRR flicker. Best LCD I ever owned period.
