      jdbabyv3 Brother, at 16 I had flowing metal band hair, then by 20 i had lost enough that with any kind of hair cut or style it was still obvious. Shave your head, grow a beard. breaking bad style. it really does make you look more badass. I also noticed people respected me more in the workplace and even confused me as the man in charge at times.

    Seriously, at the rate of progression on this issue, we're going to cure death itself before we figure out how to deal with balding.
    Damn it sucks. I started going bald at 16, and at 25, I'm almost all the way there. Come on science, don't fail me!

      UnknownXV Hmm, don't know if you or I are in the worse position. I have still got nice thick hair at 17 with no signs of balding... But EVERY male in the last 3 generations of my family has gone bald. So for me it's more of a looming certainty because I know it is going to happen, I just don't know when.

On the plus side, if I did get my father's genes, I can look forward to never EVER going bald. 17 here btw and still a very thick and full head of hair plus a beard.

    Note that you may be able to have your hair evened out, at a hair clinic. They will literally move one hair at a time from the back of your head and move it to where it's needed. This is expensive and not everyone has enough extra hair to pull it off, but if your baldness is detrimental to your life, you should consider it.
    Personally I was bald around age 19 and have just embraced it. Bald4lyfe.

    Unfortunately for me I started losing my hair from the age of about 16/17. Top left and right of my forehead started to thin and I knew it'd go there first because in those two very places was lighter, thinner, blonde hair. At about 16/17 it was so minor that it was barely noticeable, but that rapidly changed when I reached 18/19 when I had to start cutting my hair shorter. Over the years it got worse until about 21 where even short hair was no longer an option. I'm 26 now and I shave my hair all time but fortunately I seem to be one of the lucky ones and pull it off rather well... though I do miss having it.
    Vellus hair still exists where there once was thick hair follicles, so it's never too late should a treatment come around. Overall though, I'm not too fussed by it, but even if some kind of cure did get on the market it'd cost an absolute fortunate.

      Alberto Fernandes No cure. It's just a pain in the butt. I've been a stutterer my whole life. The only treatment is likely the same one you're using: practicing words and phrases and concentrating on speaking clearly and slowly. It just takes people like us spending more effort to communicate clearly.
      PS: I frequently rehearse common salutations and replies when I'm by myself so when I have to talk later I can just repeat it. I find that far easier than thinking of the phrase on the fly and then having to concentrate on it.

    I've never heard the term "bio-sex" before this video. I'm not sure how I feel about it, because I've always failed to empathize with the transgender movement - I simply find it difficult to resolve that people can't just accept what they are, resulting in the need for new nouns and pronouns (though I suppose transgender makes more sense than otherkin or the various tumblr sexualities) - but bio-sex is still probably a more useful and accurate word than just "sex.".

      I dunno. I wish I were taller, but I'm not going to have dramatic surgery to make myself taller, or trick people into thinking that I'm tall by wearing tall shoes, or demand that people respect that I feel tall on the inside.

    • @kiralewis831
      @kiralewis831 9 лет назад +2

      you do realize the fundamental difference between wanting to be tall and feeling like you were born in the wrong gendered body right?

    • @Koop784
      @Koop784 9 лет назад

      Not particularly, other than that my means of having sex don't have anything to do with my height (or at least insofar as my height is not short enough to require assistance). But I don't see the difference between the overall construction of genitalia compared to overall bone length. If we're talking about the advantages through the perception of others, then first I would examine that the common advantages/disadvantages of a given gender are not (usually) actively present in someone transgender (though they have their own set of disadvantages due to social prejudice), but under the premise that someone transgender seeks those advantages, then I can at least make the parallel that being taller would come with certain desirable advantages.
      I'm not coming from a position of hate or willful obstinacy, merely ignorance by the absence of empathy. When I run the 'math' in my head then nothing about transgender makes sense.

    • @danielleanderson6371
      @danielleanderson6371 9 лет назад +2

      Koopsy It really doesn't make sense. I've been out to myself for about two years and I still don't get it, but the important thing to remember is that the whole process takes depressed, suicidal people and turns them into happy, well-adjusted members of society without directly harming anyone else, and that's good enough for me.

      Saying things like biosex males/females really is the opposite of thoughtspeak though? The idea of thoughtspeak is to make things as simple as possible so you don't have to think about things too much, but when you say things like biosex male (though there are issues with saying that as well, like it's exclusive to intersex people), it draws attention to the fact that gender is more complicated than people would like to think.

    It's possible I got it from my dad (I'm female) seeing as his father is balding (he still has enough to do the comb over, but it looks weaker every year) and my dad's mother's hair is very thin. My mother's family, on the other hand all have very thick hair on their head. However, ever since I hit puberty, I've had a quite a bit of hair loss (it used to be super thick). My hair is rather thin now for a 29 year old woman - which seems rather early for a woman.

    Idek where to start with this one. Hank, you're a sciencey person. You should know that chromosomes aren't as simple as xy=male and xx=female. If you and i and everyone who watches this video were to actually go and find out what chromosomes we had, a good number of us would find out that our chromosomes don't line up how we thought they would. Second, you're a little behind on your terminology (or at least whoever wrote for this episode is). "Biosex" is not a thing. You're talking about assigned sex, which is based on the appearance of one's genitals at birth. Not chromosomes, not hormones, just genitals. You don't need to talk about "biosex males" and "biosex females", just talk about people with a predominance of testosterone or a predominance of estrogen. I know the term "male pattern baldness" still exists, but it doesn't need to be reinforced in science education. The gender/sex binary doesn't need to be reinforced either. I don't blame you and/or the writer(s) for this stuff, you just need to stay up to date on the facts. That's what good scientists do, right? I do, however, blame everyone involved in making this video for the grievous error of misspelling Jean-Luc Picard's name. Tsk tsk. ;)

    • @antivanti
      @antivanti 9 лет назад +1

      Magic Penguin But sex is not the same as gender and female/male refers to sex and man/woman/other refers to gender. A transgendered woman who has not undergone a sexchange is a woman but still male. Intersex and transsexed people are obviously edge cases and aren't easily defined as either male or female. A sexchange does not mean that one is made into the sex they identify with only that one has been made to resemble and function like that sex. They are also so rare (estimated 1/2500 males have undergone MTF SRS.) that it makes sense to reserve any qualifiers of sex for them, and ofc only when actually relevant like medicine/science not in everyday conversation, rather than forcing the use of qualifiers on everything all the time.
      That being said I wouldn't mind them going into more detail on how hair-loss affects people that have undergone MTF or FTM SRS or the most common types of intersex people. And I imagine that would be far more helpful for understanding and acceptance of intersex/transsexed people than using some contrived and unnecessary qualifiers for sex for all people.

      Because there are some extremely narcissistic attention whores who hate reality and expect the whole world to change for them instead of the other way around. These narcissists feel that they are special and deserve special treatment, some will even go so far as to pretend to be the opposite sex in order to prove how special and different they are. Around 57% of transgenders have narcissistic personality disorder.
