    Butt hair...
    When I was on chemotherapy I lost lots of hair including all my butt hair. It was at this point I realised what butt hair is for...
    When you crack a small fart without hair... The bubble remains between your butt cheeks and very slowly travels towards where your butt cheeks are no longer together. Waiting for this slow moving bubble tickles and is a very weird feeling which I found psychologically disturbing.
    With butt hairs the fart can very quickly escape via the naturally occurring channels which butt hairs create. This results in no slow moving and disturbing tickle and most often a noise which can amuse the fartee or the nearby listeners.

    Unspoken in this whole hair discussion: the role of asymmetricality of hair in cross-section. Hair absorbs water asymmetrically if the hair is oblong or triangular in cross-section instead of round. The more asymmetrical, the curlier as hair expands when it absorbs moisture and will curl if the absorption is uneven because of the hair's shape

    Personal observations while not having butt hair after waxing:
    1. When passing gas, it takes a different path depending on posture. If I'm sitting, it travels to the front. If I'm standing or laying down, it makes a noise instead of being silent. I imagine that the bacteria that is present in gas is traveling to parts I'd rather not have it in.
    2. Particles that would normally not get near my anus do and then it gets slightly irritated. Stray hairs from shedding, underwear fuzz or threads.
    3. On particularly hot days, sweat goes right to that area. With hair present, it doesn't.
    So, butt hair might be there to protect us from tiny objects getting in anuses (ani?) and keep bacteria flowing away from sensitive areas.

    The question I often wonder about is why humans - apes - have the opposite hair pattern to other apes.
    Humans have hairy chests, other apes don't. We have hairy armpits, but other apes don't. We have pubic hair but other apes don't. Where other apes have thick hair over their bodies, humans - on the whole - have body hair so sparse and fine that it's barely noticeable. Why? We're apes, after all. Why is the human hair pattern seemingly the reverse of our other ape cousins?

    • @fluffy3640
      @fluffy3640 4 года назад +2

      The explaination for this, is that our lineage experienced a mutation that caused us to lose hair. Approx 6 million years. Interestingly, there is a genetic mutation that causes certain apes to lose hair.
      It likely just stuck with us, because at the time we were living in Africa, and having a dense coat of hair wouldn't be good in that enviroment.

    • @fluffy3640
      @fluffy3640 4 года назад +2

      As for the specific hair pattern, you arent exactly right. We have hairless palms, faces, and ears. Most apes have chest hair, but it's sparse. We have sparse chest hair.

    - Anus gets chaffed from the hair when I run, so it burns/stings even when warm water comes into contact
    - Poo tends to get stuck on the hair which is quite annoying
    - Particularly uncomfortable to feel when doing any form of activity involving significant use of legs (ie running)

    Pro tip, if you have greys and need two colours of dye to have even colouring, you can eliminate that problem with Keratin infused shampoos and conditioners. When Keratin is added back to greys, it improves their ability to take dye and end up with even colur from on colour of hair dye. My wife did it. She used to require two colours, so the hairdresser told her to try Keratin infused shampoos and now she needs only one colour and dye takes much better. So Keratin even after the greys, can improve hair.

    Here is a question. I dont dye my hair.. so why are my roots lighter than the rest of the length?

    • @thathobbitlife
      @thathobbitlife 4 года назад +10

      The sun naturally lightens hair and usually, hair grows a half shade lighter than what it grows out to be after 2-3" Ive learned.

    • @Cracks094
      @Cracks094 4 года назад +7

      That's fairly easy to answer, when your hair is grown, it overlaps and lays on top of each other, blocking/reflecting much, much more of the incoming light than at your scalp, where your actual strands of hair do NOT overlap and each of them having a tiiiiny bit of space between the next hair. You can easily see through a few trees but a dense forest looks dark and doesn't let light through.

    • @sandybarnes887
      @sandybarnes887 4 года назад +10

      That's odd. Usually roots are darker as the sun lightens it farther out

    I have a question, and I hope you can answer it. My entire life, I've worn my hair long, but it never got past what we called "boob length". About 3 years ago I started taking biotin supplements, and as a result, my hair is now down to my waist. Although individual strands have gotten finer in my old age (I'm 68), it just seems so much less fragile. So, I ask you, what is the action involved, how does biotin make my hair stronger?
    Thanks. I watch you guys every day. Sci-show at the top of the list of my favorites!

      But the redness isnt a burn. But there are chillers that blow freezing hair during the procedure n some are attached to the laser, there are numbing creams, it all depends on where you go. If you donr like being hairy igs worth it

    The reduced friction thing ...is a thing (probably). As a keen cyclist and (one time slightly sporty gym-type person, albeit an old one), I've done that 'cycling thing' of shaving various body parts. The difference to body parts sticking together and chafing is very noticeable with reduced hair. I'm sure the scent thing is also a major factor. ...anyway I'm off to shampoo and condition my butt.

    I suffer from chronic Pilonidal disease. I've had 4 surgeries to correct the problem. I even went so far as to have regular laser hair removal in the interglutial cleft. I now have much less hair in that area, so I only shave it once every 2 wks. If you are unlucky enough to be facing surgery for this problem, I strongly advise you NOT to opt for a skin or muscle flap. If the flap fails, it will make the problem worse.
