Awesome video. I think this is the reason I've been hearing creeking on my rear door. I will try it. The fact the tire isn't tight to the bump stop makes sense for overflexing the rear hatch.
I wonder if the summer sun/heat will expand the tire and increase pressure on that bumpstop any noticeable bit.
I did this to mine and even though it’s just a quarter inch it makes it look a lot better with the tire being closer to the vehicle. Stronger too…

My only concern would be where that bump stop is located. It's directly installed on the Tailgate. Why would they not install it on the bracket itself. My concern is that pressure on the tailgate will in time dent the tailgate because of the pressure on it. Now if the bump stop was located on the bracket itself then I would not see a problem with this idea of yours. Yes having the tire closer to the vehicle is just commonsense. It would cause less fatigue on all moving parts. Thank you for the tip!
The rubber “bump stops” are very forgiving. It’s not putting hardly any measurable pressure on the tailgate.
