    IDK about stance being in the same category as tuners or other performance/hot rods.... Maybe more in same category as lowriders and other custom vehicles because they're all about style and creativity. BTW... y'all need to do an episode on lowriders. • @kazumekku
      @kazumekku 5 лет назад +2

      I thought the same thing about stance, and I'm still on the fence with it. I think its plausible though, just because circuit track cars have more negative camber on the front wheels and are lowered for cornering stability, so tuners pay homage to those race cars in an exaggerated way. Unlike lowriders who couldn't possibly be influenced by motorsports in the slightest.

      True. Tsuchiya did a comparison test with drift vs grip, as expected drift is slower.

    Stance could hurt me in fact, it is not safe in any way, that amount of camber means that in the event that he has to brake to not hit me or simply has to steer away from me it is almost impossible not to cause an accident that could've been avoided. Oh and if it rains it the car is practically a rolling coffin. I'm not one of those always function over form guys, but if lifes are at stake...

    • @delta_13
      @delta_13 5 лет назад

      @JasonHook100 the thing is that it does not have to be extreme to be unsafe on the road, and 90% do have extra camber that is not tuned for performance, which generally means the car is unsafer. I do like the look of a lowered car with some camber, but it is not safe in any way.

    • @delta_13
      @delta_13 5 лет назад +1

      @JasonHook100 good tyres do help but they still need a good contact patch, if you reduce it to half of the contact patch you will need tyres that have double the grip, which is normally not possible. Still, if you manage to mitigate the loss of handling, that's fine by me, normal performance and good looks is a good deal to me.

    I personally have kinda come up with a definition of tuner, which is :
    "A sports car lineup which focuses on heavily overdoing the driving components allowing the user to modify the vehicle in the way the user wants, thus providing great flexibility". I did use "lineup" liberally because the companies which make tuner cars usually have a whole or two lineups. INCLUDING Ford, thanks to the Focus and the Escort.

    A little bit of history I think ya'll might like, is that the game Midnight Club pays homage to a car gang from Japan known as the Mid Night Club, who raced on the Wangan from '87 to '99. The Japanese lettering in the title also says Wangan in Kanji. The makers of the game, Rockstar Games, rented Times Square in NYC to capture the cover art for the game. This was all happening as the tuner scene was really taking off in America. Tuning cars has been going on for about as long as racing cars have. People all over the world have done it, but when we're talking about the tuner scene, we're associating it to the import scene in America as a trend that carried over from illegal street racing gangs in '90s Japan.

But for everything else he was a clueless hack and shamelessly lies to my face. He supposed to be an expert on my 2005 WRX but he was clueless for sure. Several tries and he could not even fix something as simple as power steering. He left dents in my car. He kept breaking my abs tone ring on like 3 axles. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out. He also has a real smug attitude. Oh, and mechanics always say how nice my cat is and I take care of it all he says is rusty bolt rusty bolt so he can up charge.

    Tuning is LITERALLY making harmonious music inside an engine! Each power pulse must have a perfect pathway unimpeded, in a perfect dance with each and every other power pulse, from infancy when they are not one unit, but a volume of air here, and a squirt of fuel there all needing a perfect and easy pathway to the perfect marriage under pressure (the Big Bang)! Then when they are one and perfected, the exit must be perfect and loudly announce that their song is over!

I was able to buy my own tuner car and was saw first hand with my own eyes how the tuner culture split in to different sub-genres in the mid-2000s. I personally aligned myself with the autocross/time attack/track day scene, while some of my friends wholeheartedly embraced the stance scene. None of us gravitated toward the show-drift scene because of how expensive it is to keep a shitbox, ratty drift car up and running.
