He straight up just deleted that thread rn 🤦♂️. Jack, we don't hate you. Just take accountability, my god. This is unprofessional. You'll literally be fine.
Instead of more books. Can you please talk us through your proposition of newsletter, failed business, channel membership and how they didn't work out and what you have learnt? how you have paid back members and and apologised, what did you learn from ut?. Your viewers made you what you're and they made you a living and you have become increasingly out of touch with your fan base. The latest calamity doesn't show you in a good light. You were talked about on another platform and you flounced off the discussion in a melodramatic way which is worthy of a dramatic oscar. Anyway do the right thing and apologise to your community publicly and redeem yourself.
channel membership = all members (those who cancelled AND those who stayed) have received all content they were promised and a full written + video apology for delays, and I'm working on additional perks to compensate. refunds can be requested via youtube. 'failed business' = just a business that i am closing down, not a 'failure'. i have spoken about this extensively. newsletter = was hosted on Revue but Revue has closed down due to being owned by Twitter and not wanting to associate with Elon Musk. my mailing list was literally deleted by them.
@@jack_in_the_books Revue closed in January. Your newsletter started in August. there is no malice here -- the membership option is still 'live' so that i can deliver the member perks to those who continued paying, and they can have access to it. it will be removed in a couple of days once the content has reached everyone. anyone can cancel at any moment, and request a refund from youtube. i know it's easy to spin this, but i'm trying my best
@@jack_in_the_books members who have already paid for their current month should theoretically have access for the rest of their pay period. leaving the join option open only runs the risk of new unsuspecting subscribers paying for a membership that is closing down shortly… if you made a public apology announcing the end of the membership, maybe that would eliminate this risk.
okay but we are not talking "theoretically" here. what actually happens is this: if membership is deleted before the month ends, a refund is automatically applied. therefore if someone did subscribe today (just a note: no one has -- i can see, and i can cancel their membership if they do) then they would be auto-refunded in a couple days when membership is cancelled. however if i delete memberships now, EVERYONE would lose access to the content. i appreciate it's fun to talk "theoretically" to make the situation worse, but i am taking the appropriate and necessary steps. apologies have been issued to those affected. please trust that i am fixing this to the best of my ability and prioritising those who have paid. talking "theoretically" helps no-one
i’m truly not trying to make things seem worse than they are. this whole thing seems somewhat poorly managed-i’m just concerned about your members. and my suggestion to make a public apology is a genuine one. while your few hundred members who were directly affected may be getting what they were entitled to, the reddit post has thousands of upvotes and likely many more views. it’s about salvaging your reputation at this point. the longer it goes unaddressed, the less happy people will be.

Since you want to read more koren lit during your travels, I once again highly recommend Han Kang‘s „Human Acts”! I know you’ve read some of her other work, but this one is my absolute favorite and just a fantastically written, incredibly touching and emotional read^^
Can't wait for the Matty Healy video! I've always wondered what it must be like inside his mind lol. I have no doubt getting a glimpse through the books he reads will be interesting!
The Night Train to the Stars story has an animated adaptation to it as well (Called Night on the Galactic Railroad)! Highly recommend it as it is absolutely gorgeous and I think about it even years after first watching it.
Lovely poem, the orange. Had never heard it before, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of the lyrics to Elbow's song 'Starlings', which is about dreaming of being with someone and wanting to do simple things with them, it also mentions an orange grove

If you are going to Japan, try to visit Benessee Island (Naoshima) the art island. A small island in the inland sea dedicated to art. Fine museums and amazing installations scattered about. I stayed at the Oval, a ring of rooms built into the small mountaintop accessible only by a funicular from inside one of the museums, you take your meals privately within the museum halls. And wherever you go (Kyoto!) stay at traditional Ryokan where the Kaiseki meal style is served, transcendent!
Uncle Bill is one of my very favorite writers. I’ve read all his work, I’ve seen him read several times. I love his collaborations with both Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and Laurie Anderson. I love all the Beat and Beat-adjacent authors. I miss you, Uncle Bill… (William S. Burroughs)
Love your suggestions on books. This year I’ve been reading more, one of the reasons I must say is actually your channels. Regards from Chile 🇨🇱. Bye 👋
Some great picks! 📚 I got Night Train to the Stars for my husband for Christmas and I've been reading some of the stories aloud to him. They are really fun, absurd and fable like. Have a great trip!
Really want to hear your thoughts on Untold Night and Day! I picked it up on a whim a few years ago because it sounded intriguing but didn’t feel too sure about it once finished. I think I really didn’t get it 😀
Regarding east Asian authors, recommending The Pillow Book by Sei Shōnagon, written in the 990-1000 by a court lady; a fascinating account of a different place and time.
