EliasVFishing Hi, Elias hope your have fun in North Carolina
This is a really odd question but I live in Bushwich, Brooklyn and I have been on charter boat 3 times now. I have never caught a fish, do you know any good charter boat or any tips. I will take any advice from someone like yourself

So jealous right now. Try Snow’s Cut for flounder. The bridges around Wilmington should hold some sheepshead. Don’t make it look too good. We don’t want everybody moving there!

Great vid as usual but dude, herb scissors gadget for basil? ;-) You doing C-C-C get kitchen skills instead of gadgets. Learn chiffonade for leaf herbs and vegetables (spinach, kale, chard). With a basic set of GOOD knives, hone steel and GOOD wood board (break, butcher, debone, slice, dice, chop, mince). Prepping food is 90% of the battle. Quickly and properly prepared products make all the rest easy and enjoyable. Hooksets every cast for you, our RUclips friend.

Nice trip, nice fish. Spanish Macks are a summertime staple here on the beaches of FL. Just keep a rig with a spoon on and wait for a bait boil or birds to come your way.
My best tip based on my preference is to put Mack's on ice immediately and Cook them within the same afternoon. I like to fry them, but if not eaten close to kill, they get mealy in texture.

you found one of my favorite fish to catch down on the space coast of Florida, when you get a chance try to just saute it in butter in a pan so you can flip it and get the skin crispy and eat it like you would a fresh water trout, then just a little lemon. you will love it. when i fish for pompano from the beach and catch a blue, i will start using my casting rod with a spoon as the spanish macks will often swim with the blues(they wont hit the pompano rigs with sand fleas, shrimp or clams like blues will however), you catch both but throw back the blues and keep the macks. good luck and tight lines brother

Fast Eddie's pier Anna Maria Island, FL we used to fill up buckets of Spanish on Walmart metal spoons. They preferred the silver over gold and would hit a metal spoon over any other lure. Smoked spanish mackerel is really great. I miss the smoked spanish and also the smoked mullet back home.

My favorite recipe for mackerel and the like; including trout and salmon.
    1Tbs melted butter
    1Tbs white wine
About ten drops of lemon juice
Salt, pepper, and dill weed to taste. I add a little garlic for fish with a stronger flavor.
I start broiling the fish dry and then brush the sauce on after about 3-5 minutes and again about a minute before it's done.
    Cheers!

Elias, I have rod floats on the rods I use in my Kayak. You can get foam pipe insulation with a 1/2" hole diameter at Lowes or Home Depot. Cut a piece to fit between the grip and the first guide. I use black duct tape to hold it, or wire ties. It's more convenient than a rod leash.

I live near Raleigh and we have NO decent rock stations so it's always a treat heading out to the beach, not only to enjoy the water but to catch some pretty good music. Cool recipe. Look forward to trying it. (I wonder if you're old enough to remember Q104.3?)

Crippled herring works good for the Spanish, white or gold Gotcha Jigfish is another good one. I never liked the epoxy jigs. I can cast the metal jigs farther and when your running and gunning Spanish on baitballs it helps out.

I'm surprised you thought it was mild. Macks are more of a bait fish to me as they are so oily and bloody, next time try bleeding them right after you catch them, I've heard they are good smoked in a dip but I've never tried eating them
