As a female with not too much strength, I like this design. My husband will build it, and then I can more easily maintain it. Thank you.
I like the descriptions of how you deviated from the original plan. I like your double rabbet design--it seems very useful!
What I'd really like to know more about is the stool attached to the 5-gal bucket. That seems very useful as well! ;-)
I purchased the bucket lid at a Mother Earth News fair, but it has a web site www.bucketstool.com it’s very helpful
This is a good design. Goo attention to detail to put the bee space around the frames. By the way, I saw another horizontal hive design on youtube. The title is something like.. "horizontal hive design for 8 frame supers". You can search for it. The other hive design put the entrances closer to the center board so that the hives would cluster near each other during winter. Maybe you could check it out. These types of hives are the best.
Thanks, here in Texas we don’t get so cold. Plus I’d be more concerned of robbing.
To me too much hassle so i bought over 40 boxes and frames that were already made. This was alot easier for me as i hate wood
I understand, my back cannot lift a box of frames so I must use horizontal
@@HallsomeFarm I use my quads to transfer frames around back up with a empty box on it and move the frames to it i use my quads
Norseman Honey I enjoy the building process and it is my chosen hobby. Using scrap lumber and about an hour per hive pre-cutting all the lumber. I now have four hives for under $300. I do not have the cover boards on top of my frames. Decided to with reflect-x between the frames and the roof to save some time.
Very nice well thought out hive! Couple of questions since I'm working on one myself. Did you see any need to make a "false wall" that would move as you expanded the number of frames within the box? Would it be better to use a slightly longer chain so the top would go a little past center to help prevent wind gusts from slamming it on you during inspection?
I loved the explanation... when I could hear it. A lot of it was very very quiet with my sound cranked up to 100% =(
Thanks sorry for the sound I just purchased a camera with a sound system hopefully my videos will get better
@@HallsomeFarm =) I enjoyed the video. Hope to see more in the future =)
