You could try to reflow the prossesor. This is leadfree soldier. so it flow at 350-400 celcius. Use flux, lots of flux and heat the cpu till it moves around. Then cool and retest. You could try that. chances are that it will be fixed if the fault is not internal. Their are lots of video's about reflowing CPU and other chips. Also at louis Rossman's channel.
Keep up the good work brother. Repair, reuse. God bless.

im an old dog....guess its time to learn some new tricks...lol. I just cloned another cluster (path of least resistance) and got the customer fixed with a path known to me at this time. I look forward to playing with this core however.

Most likely just a dry joint on that BGA device if there is some shock or excessive thermal cycling those tiny solder balls give in.
And it's not proprietary, you can still buy it at ali, before you could buy it from digikey but it just went obsolete which is expected for cluster from a 2011 vehicle.
Surprised an electronics repair shop can't reflow BGA...

probably can ...most likely can. just havent done one yet. cheaper easier and less time spent to clone a working cluster...of which i had 3 on hand. I will retain this cluster also so that may be a good challange for me when ive got some spare time. Also have never tried pulling the complete flash on those....so yea just need the time to do the RND.

@@AutomotiveElectronics If you never push yourself to learn it then it always will be that job that is too time consuming to be profitable.
If you've got the equipment and a bit of skill it's like 10-20 minute job.

What’s that tool between your obd star and the thing you plug in the cluster

its part of the obd star...it comes with it. That tool is a lot of money and all it does is provide a CAN signal to wake the cluster up. at some point in the furue im going to see if i can read and reproduce that CAN signal with my picoscope. If that works ill provide a video and the file.
