Singing with a headset is a combination of relearning to sing, and tech magic. Tech wise it starts with the mic, especially in an arena environment. Hyper-cardoid condenser mic for sure. Then you'll add studio precise dynamics processing tuned for your new singing style, then a member of the sound team rides the vocal fader, dynamics processing and FX for the entire show, insuring a great sound. Most of your local bands lack the equipment or sound crew to pull it off well. I always liked bassist Larry Graham's approach. He mounted a 24" gooseneck on his Jazz bass with a regular vocal mic positioned at a normal stand distance. He could move it by moving his bass and could back off or lean in to it by moving his head. This was the 70's, way before quality wireless rigs. He had special duplex cables made to carry both bass and vocals to his amp and the snake/mixer.
I take it you have a hand or two in studio and/or live production.

To me this is 🔥🔥🔥🔥FIRE! All due respect to Dave Roth but I much prefer Sammy. Actually I'm listening to music over 60 years and he has one of the best voices I ever heard.
I love Sammy as a person but as a lifelong VH fan who saw them live in 1984 and 1986 plus 2 DLR sol tours, I can say that there is no comparison to original VH with DLR live.
It’s apples and oranges, both are great, but I agree, give me original Van Halen all day long.
I don't think the DLR version of VH would have been sustainable, but the Hagar version could have and when I listen to songs like this I get kinda sad they couldn't figure their shit out enough to put out more records with this lineup.

Love the song but always had a problem with the lyric "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time"! Classic tautology!
Taking on Sammy made V.H. better-- now they had a guy who was a better singer and could shred a guitar..now they could do more keys and still have a guitar going, so they became more versatile As far as what you guys are was saying about mike control, well, I'm a singing drummer, and prefer the headset mike..I can keep my eyes on what i'm doing without having to worry about turning my head to the mike!

Dave was good for his stage craft and look but Sammy is ten times the singer.
I wrestled a bear that was hugeeeeee back in 1976. It was horrible. They are so strong and you can't believe what being swiped by one feels like. It was freaky but I did it for a charity and the $$$ went to a good cause. I am so glad I got smarter as my years progressed
