16:50 I always wondered why they did not do another take, since the combadge obviously fell off the table, which was not intentional. But then I think, in "Worf's" state of mind, he wouldn't have cared and that added a little bit more punch to the scene. He was going to kick some ass, combadge be damned!

16:54 you missed my favorite part in-between the entering of the room and the fight scene. Worf comes in, Duras makes a snide comment and his fellow crewmen give Worf no attention, laughing at the joke, as I recall. As soon as Worf explains that she was his mate, they back up and Duras is immediately given his blade for the duel.
A part of me says his cremates were as bas as Duras himself, so they could have jumped Worf, but they did not. Even Duras does not ask or order for help. He just does the duel for what little honour he has left.
And I think Picard was more upset with Worf for killing the fallen man, whether than just the fight itself. As there was a brief moment Worf could have stopped, as he was still raising his weapon up when they arrived on the scene, opposed to just bringing it down, which would have been hard to stop at that moment. It was gravity's fault. 😅

I'm just gonna say that I admire Worf (and the writers) for ensuring that he doesn't shirk from his duties as a father. He even proposes after the holo-seggs.
Some might say that Worf's character is stiltited, but I absolutely love it.

  • @ThomasReeves-s7u
    @ThomasReeves-s7u 3 месяца назад

I feel like her action made sense to me at the time. Yes she could have told him of her pregnancy and still refuse the oath, but I think that situation is very different. The time on the holodeck they basically had only revived their relationship like that day. Humans of that era would think "woah this is way too fast" and maybe she hoped Worf could eventually understand that. And humans of that era can have babies without wanting marriage, but I feel like this would be a much harder thing for Worf to come to grips with him. She might think he'd feel extra obligated and see her reluctance to take the Oath in a much harsher way than he did the last time.
Granted I might fault her a bit for a being a tad wishy-washy? Like she kind of indicates she does want to take the Oath, but only doesn't out of fear. She didn't want Worf to try to guilt trip her into it ("We have a child, be responsible!") but she also almost sounds like she is indecisive what she does want. I mean it's not that weird to not be sure what you want, but I can see why Worf has reason to be frustrated by this even if I'm not sure she did wrong as such.

  • @lauranolastnamegiven3385

Would Worf have accepted discommendation, if he knew he had a son (who would also carry that dishonor)? Had the writers even decided there'd be a child from Reunion, when they wrote the discommendation storyline?
    7:46 - ...without being a bitch
Lastly, 8:38 - heck, being discommendated(?) may've been a turn on for her, though, I'd hope she'd understand how devastating, and what a sacrifice it was, for Worf, & maybe not say so.
Worf really had a type, didn't he? I think Jadzia & K'Ehleyr would've been great friends, despite the Curzon part of Jadzia being into Klingon culture (though Jadzia was ready to dump all that, when Sirella's pre-marriage demands on her became more than she wanted to do).

I bet there would of been a great number of great plots and episodes that would of come out of Kheylar if they hadn't killed her off so soon. I think they easily could of reshaped a lot of the alexander/worf episodes to have her in it. Instead of worf sending him off to live with his grandparents, alexander would just be living with her. And since her duties probably would be still as a ambassador, she and alexander probably wouldnt be stationed on the enterprise all that much. Though I think she would of made for a great recurring side to main character as time went on.
The thing about this episode, outside of the giant 1 year old alexander. Is how did duras think he was going to get out of this situation by killing kheylar? Like what in his mind thought killing her off would actually go well for him? Killing a federation/klingon ambassador is not only a huge no no onboard a federation ship, its probably a huge no no for a society that on its surface values honor above all else. I mean his men let worf straight up merc duras in a honor duel because she was his mate, did he think they would just let him run away after killing the ambassador in cold blood? Not to mention the enterprise if for sure not going to let him run, and Gowron is 100% going to assist with his death stare (and fully functional klingon warship). I know duras isnt the sharpest bat'leth on the wall, but this definitely was not the way to handle it.
Assuming Kheylar tells anyone about her suspicions, why does it matter to duras? She has no direct proof, all she can do is point fingers at him. If she did, he could easily rebuttal by pointing at worf accepting discommendation for his fathers supposed crime. The high Counsel would totally agree with duras, and the matter would basically becoming a null point. The worst thing for duras would be losing the chancellorship, perhaps out of fear that Gowron would leverage the information to screw duras over. Its not like picard or worf would ever admit to that information, and considering the potential for civil war (which happens anyways) kheylar might not even tell anyone her suspicions, especially if picard/worf convince her not to. Realistically, duras probably could of come out of this without being killed or revealed as the traitor. He probably wouldn't become the next chancellor, but thats a lot better than being super dead after worf gets to you. I mean he must of known worf was going to come kill him right afterwards, and knowing that, should of guessed his chances of killing worf in a honor duel was likely 0%. Infact him managing to kill kheylar without her calling for security or just kicking his ass is lucky as hell. Infact the ship somehow not detecting people with unauthorized weapons just roaming the ship is just weird. Or people who bring weapons via the transporter and not having them removed at the pad is just bonkers. Security on Federation ships, just like borg ships is insanely laxed and chill until you poke them, and even than its like "oh no we can only send 2 guys, maybe 3 if were really feeling stressed to do something about it!".
I know I might seem like im thinking too much about this, and the real answer is something something production decided this/nomoney and that and the actress/actor may or may not wanted to come back, or the writers couldn't think of something better and so plot yada yada. But its still super funny to think of how many plots could of just been solved by "hey, maybe we shouldn't let people with weapons wonder around" or "hey maybe we should listen to worf when he states obvious security concerns about the situation thats totally going to be a huge security issue in like 3 mins". Still great episode and good fun all around.

Eh, I can't judge for thinking about things too much in Trek: just look at a good chunk of my videos.
The only things I can think of for Duras killing K'Ehleyr is 1) he panicked and 2) no one would have known for certain that it was him: it could have also been Gowron or one of the other Klingons on board. He probably didn't account for Worf finding her and that her confirming that it wasn't Gowron. But you bring up a good point that she had suspicions and no direct proof. Plus, Duras had a fair amount of support in the Klingon empire: if he played it cool, it could have blown over.
And as for Enterprise security, all those reports just get fed into Odo on DS9 and he has a good laugh about them.
