"The bridges span a narrow gap between two mountains. It's one of the most important targets in all of Korea. Consequently, it's fortified accordingly. Although we're only over the target about 30 seconds; it's a lifetime." - LT Harry Brubaker. I've read the book (a super fast read since it's a novella) and seen the film. The film follows the book extremely closely (surprisingly for Hollywood), and parts of the dialogue are taken word-for-word from the source material. It helps that they filmed aboard USS Oriskany with the actual VF-192 Golden Dragons.

I never even heard of this and I love stuff about the Korean war. I even asked at the Imperial War museum about books and so forth and the information was scant at best -A barren place was the best they could suggest Thank you so much for letting me know about this.. I will watch this Vid later after I read he book and watch the film. Ebay is amazing at times. I am extremely grateful. Nice one
The navy did have an F86 variant. Also this was right in the middle of the AD1's life span and they had the legs to run the same mission. Add to this the ADs did get a couple of mig kills in viet nam.
And if i recall correctly a centurion tank claimed a mig kill with it 20 pdr when the mig flew through a valley where the tanks were doing fire support.
Hey Cap .. not sure if anyone has mentioned this.. but the reason why your engine stopped responding was the fact that the engine exhaust temperature was off the clock...
Love re-enactments and using the older tech =-) Makes it more visceral and "flying" rather than just push button and fancy jets that aren't even in the game.
Ew, yes! A GR DCS simulation based on one of my favorite "classic" war films (itself based on the Korean War missions at Majon-ni and Samdong-ni). I approve!!!
I enjoyed this scenario more than others, as it put a lot more pressure on the pilots because of less modern gear to assist.... more "seat of the pants".. cheers!
I've been thinking about pursuits for a long time now and if you'll permit me I have a suggestion: next time, switch license plates after the bomb run. They'll never figure it out.
Love the sabre, its a pilot skill aircraft! and i knew every time they fired a missile is was never going to hit ... you have to fight it like a WW2 prop plane at Jet speeds. If your not intercepting bombers, then you need to be throwing lead
Would love to see a CAC Avon variant of the F-86 in some of these missions. RAAF version that had the RR Avon and 2x30mm Aden cannon instead of the 6 .50. I cant do it but I would love it if a modder could.
Yeah that's my fault. I don't fly the F-86 a lot and I was curious about if the AIM-9b had changed at all during the last few updates. I asked if I could load them with that in mind and wasn't thinking about the time period was from before the Navy employed them.
I'm so old I can remember reading about the first use use of sidewinders in the Quemoy-Matsu fracas as a teen. Highly science-fictional! I seem to recall we gave them to the ROC AF to test them for us. The Grim Reapers videos are intellectually stimulating and funny as hell at the same time. Thanks to all of you for the entertainment you provide. @@simba1113
Can you do a video on the Firefox movie? Have a jet take off from Russia like you stole it and have to get to a UN base out of Russia without dying. 1980s weapons but the plane needs to be the Chinese 5th generation jet because it looks like the movie jet, kinda😊
Instead of recreating old scenarios, can you come up with modern fictional ones? I love watching these! But these old ones just don't have that modern hype or are just bland, like this one "bomb a bridge".

Skyraiders (sorry)
@@gerryflanagan8291My brain read the prop but so didn't notice your name until you pointed it out & I re-read your OP. 😂
Just love jets from 50s to the 80s. Would love to see more old plane content.
You've . . . nailed four aircraft carriers together . . .
And it seems to have worked.
"I can't see anything that could possibly go wrong."
*almost immediately goes wrong.*
The GR Experience in a nutshell.😆
I love the USS Overbudget. She was a good ship.
Weird..I just watched this movie this afternoon and came on here this evening and you have it here..
The Sabre in that Navy skin looks awesome.
Agreed
I expected Mickey Rooney to pop out in a top hat. Favorite movie to watch growing up, repeats of course.
Great reenactment of one of my favorite movies. Great job stacking the carriers in order to get the F86 off of the ground.
I love these historic/film re enactments.....

Check out the movie as well if you have not. Lots of nice footage of then-current in-service ships and aircraft that was used in the filming.
Squad is looking sharp!
Grim Reapers carrying the day on class alone!
Love these reenactments done with GR flare. Like all the Falklands campaigns. Nice!
An alternate reality where deck catapults were never invented 😂
Great vid
A full aircraft carrier runway i never seen something so insanely American haha
Glad I'm not the only one that makes carrier runways!
lol
Super Super Super Super Carrier.
And Sidewinders appear in Korean War were super weapon.

The FJ Fury series.
Interesting, thanks
And if i recall correctly a centurion tank claimed a mig kill with it 20 pdr when the mig flew through a valley where the tanks were doing fire support.
Cool mission, great hit on that bridge Cap!
I LOVE THE F-86s one of my favorite aircraft to fly in DCS, I used to use it on a multiplayer server against su-25s, mig-21s, mirage f-1s and mig-19s

Such a great film! I hope they never make a remaster version. Great Job guys!
Cap being sarcastic?, noooooo🙄
No?!
That's a YOU problem.
The movie was great. A Classic.
Great visuals! The livery, scenery, camera angles. Ace!
That's a Super Carrier. Also love those skins.
Best mission in a long time. Loved it
Great sense of suspense throughout. Very fun to watch!
The carrier centipede was... interesting
The carriers didn't read their Apple user agreement fully.
hahahah no they didn't@@earnestbrown6524

Pretend FJ Fury's loving it & man that's a big old carrier , but no hot tub with William Holden & Grace Kelly 😢
So exciting. More like this with the USS OB and 50s jets please!
I enjoyed this scenario more than others, as it put a lot more pressure on the pilots because of less modern gear to assist.... more "seat of the pants".. cheers!
F9F is such a beautiful plane... it should be modeled.
Adapt the carrier “a bit.” 😂 great video guys!
The Soviet pilots training and flying in North Korea were called "Honchos"
Thanks
Those Sabres are beautiful
Lol good recon on that North Korean base cap, Super Cap for the win
That was brilliant thanks guys!
Incidentally there was a naval version of the F-86 (783 infact) called the FJ-2 and FJ-3. They didn't enter service until 1954, however.
Thanks!
Ah yes, the Korean War 'Super-Duper Carrier'. Four times the length of a traditional super carrier.
Well take my Poutine, I enjoyed that.

Actually, the Navy had a version of this aircraft designated FJ-3 Fury.
Historically the actual attack on the Bridges was carried out by Skyraider prop planes. The F9F's did escort and SEAD
thx
I'm so glad someone mentioned this. Jets were used in the movie because Hollywood wanted jets not piston aircraft.
Just as an aside, the VSN guys have an F9F mod out now. Uses FC3, like is usual, but might be fun.

The new super duper carrier
Wait.... CAP had Simba lead an attack that is visually navigated. The same guy who infamously gets lost all the time... What could go wrong?
right. I said the same thing.
I am also amazed we got to target...
"Oh Yeah, I gotta jet!" LMAO!!!!🤣🤣
Freakin awesome!
Man all of GR needs a course of basic visual IFF. So many of your videos I see blue on blue kills or engagments
Multiple Migs, wasn’t he in The Silence of the Lambs?
If DCS had catapult launching, it would have gone easier.
Hmmmm, F-86......FJ-2 Fury....same same.😂 Just curious, What carrier is that? The CV-236 USS Chicago O'hare?
That was good.
You could have used the Colossus carrier for this maybe?
Problem is I needed super long carriers.
There was a navy version of the Sabre - question mark?.
FJ-3 Fury
My bad, thanks.
Cap, how is the GR baby?
He's good thanks. 17 months old. He now has 7 words he says. Thankfully none are rude.
Guys, you wont believe me. I got an ADD. So that means GR didnt get demonetized lets goo
Yes!
Great suspenseful mission. Did the US have sidewinders in those days? I don't think so.

erm....yes.
They had catapults on aircraft carriers in the 50s

Cap: My engine died, why did it die?
lol yeh, that's a thing right?
Please, please, please call the carrier the USS Compensation!! 😂😂😂

I was thinking USS Long Deck, and it walkways has to be said quickly
