Noel loves this song, and he's proud of his cover. The Smiths are sacred to him and when I listen to him play I hear that it's with his own feeling and interpretation that he has formed with the many times he has listened to it. It's nice to see a great artist appreciate another.
it's the saddest song ever but wonderfully beautiful. Noel not only sings perfectly his songs and covers, but he has his way to feel the music he plays. Some people tried to criticize oasis on the meaning of their songs, saying their lyrics were poor, but those people don't know that music's mainly made for creating feelings to the audience no matter how "philosophical" the lyrics can be
I am crying. The lyrics are perfect. The music is perfect. The voice is perfect. It all feels right. This makes me so sad yet happy at the same time. Very romantic and depressing... Noel's voice makes me emotional more than anyone else's could. Forever love love love this cover🌿❤
Exactly. You would struggle to top the original because it's one of the best songs by one of the best bands of all time but as far as Smiths covers go, this is as good as it gets.
There's not another artist that could cover a song as incredible as this one let alone add their own touch of brilliance. One of the reasons I consider Noel one of the greatest musicians of all time. The man just lives and breathes music it's a truly rare occurrence
If people want to know where this is from; it's from the live album 'The Dreams We Have As Children' by Noel Gallagher in the Royal Albert Hall. It was released in 2009 and it's a really good album, I really recommend checking it out!
Indeed and came out as one of those mid way between analogue and digital period free with the Sunday 'paper's . If i recall, I have a copy myself... did something worthwhile 😊🎶
Gallagher really puts emotion in this song, honestly it's an amazing cover and I'm sure the aul smiths would be proud to here their song covered in such a beautiful manner :)
I love The Smiths , but the version of Noel "make me feel better", his voice is something magnificent. He makes me better appreciate this beautiful song .
28 July 2020 never hated the Gallagher brothers! they can fight all they want but their songs will remain iconic... that's all that matters! Liam and Noel live forever!
I think it sounds like Noel. Yeah, Oasis is all Noel, but when solo, Noel doesn't sound like Oasis. I mean, Oasis is pure brit 90's rock, and NGHFB songs are more instrumental, we hear this orchestra playing along with him. He has his own style, and it's divine.
i absolutely love this tune!!went through a really bad time in life,me and my girlfriend both went through shit and now listening to this song sums us up in one....just loving it!!!!!!!THERE IS A LIGHT AND IT NEVER GOES OUT
This exact version of this very song from the TCT Dreams recording (& a very good mate) got me through a horrific divorce 11 years ago. Truly grateful for the utter joy of crying & laughing to music like this xxxxxxxxxxx
puhleeze, coming on so strong, you probably dont even realize moz steps on the groove. this is not only as good, but almost better except the god j marr not present.
This is the best cover of this song by a clear mile. I don't think he ever intended to 'better' Morrissey's effort because no one can. However, this is simply impeccable.
Take me out tonight Where there's music and there's people And they're young and alive Driving in your car I never never want to go home Because I haven't got one Anymore Take me out tonight Because I want to see people and I Want to see life Driving in your car Oh, please don't drop me home Because it's not my home, it's their Home, and I'm welcome no more And if a double-decker bus Crashes into us To die by your side Is such a heavenly way to die And if a ten-ton truck Kills the both of us To die by your side Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine Take me out tonight Take me anywhere, I don't care I don't care, I don't care And in the darkened underpass I thought oh God, my chance has come at last (but then a strange fear gripped me and I Just couldn't ask) Take me out tonight Oh, take me anywhere, I don't care I don't care, I don't care Driving in your car I never never want to go home Because I haven't got one, da... Strings are genius additions to an already great song. I love the original best (of course), but if you are going to do a cover you should be able to add something to song. I think Noel has been successful.
brilliant cover from a man who loves the smiths. don't know why people are saying the smiths version is better, of course it's better but noel didn't cover this to beat the smiths, he covered it as an acknowledgement to the smiths as they had a great influence on him.
Morrissey is the best song writing of all time. I know he's not very conventional, but that is the beauty of it. He is possibly the most literate person to ever write music. I know there are the likes of Paul Simon and Bob Dylan, both fantastic writers, but Morrissey just had that special thing. Can't pin point it, but he's got it. I mean Noel Gallagher has written some fantastic songs, so for him to call Morrissey the best song writer in history is something special.
+Jordan Smith I'd very much agree that Morrisey is probably the most literate person ever to write a song. His range of vocabulary and the tales he weaves in his lyrics are unparalleled in my opinion. I think the key to this is largely down to him having a very British working class grittiness that runs through his music. Manchester can be a very bleak, tough place to grow up. Morrisey put the feelings of the masses into words, it's a very magical gift.
Morrissey is nowhere near the best songwriter of all time, hes great on the lyrics but Johnny marr wrote the music on his best Songs, a songwriter like Noel Gallagher is far more all-around and complete. (My opinion)
I wasn't sure at the start but it got better. By the chorus I was into it. Fair play to Noel, he wasn't trying to be Morrissey, just playing a song he probably calls a favourite. It's decent and he's respectful with it, in my opinion. Well played, Noel.
Noel cover version ate actually superior to the original. Genius Songwriter Noel. Also listen to OASIS covers of HEY HEY MY MY NEIL YOUNG COME ON FEEL THE NOISE OTORPUSSY GARDEN ALL BETTER THSN ORIGONALS
The wailing orchestra in the background, is what makes this cover a masterpiece.
Oasis paired with strings is what makes them legends... would love to hear them do a record with just a chamber band.
this a very rare thing
a good smiths cover
It is too hard to cover a smiths song. They had a strange style
Sub Normal29 radiohead- headmaster ritual
its hard to sing like morrissey and it's hard to play like marr, and it doesn't help that some songs have tricky basslines as well
ruclips.net/video/LtmS2ePSSdU/видео.html another good cover
I like Haley Richman's cover of I Know It's Over.
Noel loves this song, and he's proud of his cover. The Smiths are sacred to him and when I listen to him play I hear that it's with his own feeling and interpretation that he has formed with the many times he has listened to it. It's nice to see a great artist appreciate another.

Some people tried to criticize oasis on the meaning of their songs, saying their lyrics were poor, but those people don't know that music's mainly made for creating feelings to the audience no matter how "philosophical" the lyrics can be
He doesn't try to imitate Morrisey and that's great. Noel is always great.

Agree
Brilliant take on one of the best songs ever, true Manc greatness revisited
The best covers are always their own version I think
When I started listening to it I thought it was crap. When it finish I was almost crying. Beautiful cover, probably the one I like the most.
lol
yeh wasn't sure at first but it gets better and better and by the end ...wow. Great cover.
This is a great cover. Noel Gallagher did the song justice.
This is probably the most perfect cover ever
This is probably my favorite cover that Noel has ever done. Ever.
Noel understands music... great cover... cool as Jonny
Man, what a version... seriously, it shakes my heart. one of the best versions ever. Jesus...
It's the string section that makes this rendition so utterly magical.
Such a beautiful song and incredible cover by Noel
There's not another artist that could cover a song as incredible as this one let alone add their own touch of brilliance. One of the reasons I consider Noel one of the greatest musicians of all time. The man just lives and breathes music it's a truly rare occurrence
This is probably one of the best covers ever recorded from one great band to another great band.
Agree!
Nobody could have covered this better. You can tell he's putting his heart and soul into this.

Cheers mate. I'll check it out.
He has a heart-wrenchingly beautiful voice and delivers all the pathos of this amazing song.
Nice one Noel . Never wanted to hear it from another artist , but that touched me.
the way he sing it, this song turns into a beautiful a wedding song to me.. brilliant!!
Noel Gallagher is a true talent indeed !!!! Love this cover !!!
If you do a cover. Pure class. And I've seen both in manchester. 1986 the smiths. 1994 oasis. Top cover. Salute!

This is just awesome. I can feel both an Oasis and The Smiths vibe, which I find absolutely wonderful for a cover. Noel really did great ❤️❤️
Brilliant version of a brilliant song. I shouldn’t be surprised though, it’s Noel Gallagher doing it.

Only man worthy of covering this amazing song.
Noel has always said that The Smiths are the greatest band ever and his adulation and respect is clear here.
Really does this song justice, I was so skeptical when I heard people talking about this cover but all I can say is Bravo
My ex showed me this in like 2011 and I totally forgot this existed until today. Amazing cover by Noel to his idol and a friend

this song is done with a lot of love for its creators and their music and is so good that is it almost an alternative version
great cover of the smiths tune
whatever noel touch became gold , he is the master of the gibson guitars =)
Definitely the best cover i've heard of this song... Many artists have tried and absolutely ruined it (i.e. The Killers) well done Noel and Gem.
Noel knows how to sing with feeling. It is hard not to get emotional listening to this. It’s really beautiful.

And they're young and alive

Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don't drop me home
Because it's not my home, it's their
Home, and I'm welcome no more
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought oh God, my chance has come at last
(but then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn't ask)

The original came out when I was 20 - and this is a magnificent cover. Both great :-) x
This song reminds me of my Uni days in halls where the light was on all night.
Noel ist der beste Künstler und hat die schönste Stimme !!!!!!
I love Morrissey's solo cover of this in his live performances. Noel's however, is easily the best of the non-Smith covers.
the best cover of The Smiths - There is a light that never goes out.

Often not spoken about in The Smiths is Andy Rourke's bass playing. A bass player is needed here
