Played the original Smiths version at my late wife's funeral (on her last request) in 2011 who passed away so young, she loved The smiths. Do a good version here Rick.

The energy Rick gives to these songs live is beyond. You can tell it's a genuine enjoyment for the whole band to be playing. Every note is absolutely spot on as well which can't of been easy in that heat! BBC, please put the whole set onto RUclips!

I remember Rolf Harris (obviously before the world found out what a horrific monster he was) doing the Sunday set on the main stage back along, and the crowd loved him, even though you'd never describe him as cool in any sort of fashion.

I don't know how often I watched this video by now. Can't count anymore. Rick is just amazing with his deep voice + fabulous crowd singing from start to end. Wish I would have been there !
I must have watched like a hundred times. I ask myself, "WHO could you think of who could have done this better?" And the answer really is "No-one in today's circles". The music is exactly as you want and should hear it, and Rick's vocals are on point!! It's simply Epic!
It's just fantastic to hear these brilliant songs being played live by people who obviously love and respect the music. The fact that Rick and Blossoms are from the Manchester area is the cherry on top.
The strings were 100% spot on. To think, Johnny Marr composed the strings in the original, all by himself. That blows my mind. The Smiths will always live, even though they died. 👍
I love that they didn't neglect any of the instrumental parts, everything is in there! I feel like sometimes memorable elements get hazed over when singers want to sing what they love and the band doesn't get the time to actually put it together so it sounds heavy-handed.
You wouldn’t have imagined this but Rick and the Blossoms absolutely kill it. He is an absolute showman we saw him here in Oz with aha and it was a brilliant night.

I've been a fan of The Smiths music for decades. Their songs are not particularly easy to sing. The lyrics have irregular patterns and melodies. Well done Rick 👍👍👍👍👍
One of my favourite ever Glastonbury moments. A joy from start to finish. Rick and the band paid perfect tribute to these amazing songs. The fact that Rick came in early a few times or forgot a few words just added to the charm. They played my three favourite Smiths songs - Bigmouth, William and this. And what a finale. Totally joyous, the whole crowd singing along, it brought a lump to my thoat.

I was chatting to him (the drummer) on Stockport market recently (it's not really a market it's a bar area) he's a lovely lad, dead humble.
It's sad because Morrissey wouldn't give it that kind of passion and energy.

@@alan-sk7ky Rick Astley has his own brand of cool though, it's a little odd, but Glastonbury famously embraces these kinds of acts, especially on Sunday afternoons when the entire crowd needs a lift from the excesses of the last few days.....
I remember Rolf Harris (obviously before the world found out what a horrific monster he was) doing the Sunday set on the main stage back along, and the crowd loved him, even though you'd never describe him as cool in any sort of fashion.

I don't know how often I watched this video by now. Can't count anymore. Rick is just amazing with his deep voice + fabulous crowd singing from start to end. Wish I would have been there !

It's just fantastic to hear these brilliant songs being played live by people who obviously love and respect the music. The fact that Rick and Blossoms are from the Manchester area is the cherry on top.

I love that they didn't neglect any of the instrumental parts, everything is in there! I feel like sometimes memorable elements get hazed over when singers want to sing what they love and the band doesn't get the time to actually put it together so it sounds heavy-handed.
You wouldn’t have imagined this but Rick and the Blossoms absolutely kill it. He is an absolute showman we saw him here in Oz with aha and it was a brilliant night.

I've been a fan of The Smiths music for decades. Their songs are not particularly easy to sing. The lyrics have irregular patterns and melodies.

One of my favourite ever Glastonbury moments. A joy from start to finish. Rick and the band paid perfect tribute to these amazing songs. The fact that Rick came in early a few times or forgot a few words just added to the charm.
