@@LaughingStock_ you stated the essencial here. O' course Morrissey and Marr blah blah blah, but what about the extremengly sensitive kitchen of Rourke and Joyce...?
I gotta say, at this point, knowing what we know about Mozz and having seen Marr live, I would genuinely almost prefer a Joyce/Rourke/Marr lineup without the bastard. Love those old records, but feel considerably better giving Johnny my money than our lost old friend Steven. He certainly wrote some of my personal favorite lyrics ever, but to answer the OP’s question with another question… Now imagine this beautiful scene ruined by Morrissey using his platform to progress divisive far right rhetoric. Because we all know who he is, what he does, and it’s not likely that my vision of things would be far from the truth.
Had a chance to see Johnny Marr recently in concert with The Killers. He was excellent, really had a great vibe and you can tell he really enjoyed performing for the audience. Glad I got a chance to see him live. Performed several of his own hits and a couple of Smiths songs. Came back on stage with Killers for the encore and performed this song.
The greatest indie tune of all time, when I went to Salford lads club it was magical and the smiths room was amazing my Mrs was like why you so excited to walk down coronation Street to the famous green door and now she knows why she loves the smiths, Marr and morrisey as much as me now.
I'm going to need to do this next time in Manchester. Like when I was in Edinburgh I wanted to go to the underpass used in trainspotting when rentons getting chased. Eventually I found it after searching for a half hour lol My ex at the time didn't get why I wanted to find it so much. BECAUSE ITS ICONIC
Marr during the smiths is by far my favorite composer but Morrissey's vocal melodies & lyrics are what made Smiths songs more than just songs. Love them both and dread the day either leave this world.
Morrissey is a lifetime dickhead troll, his statements have included racism as well as other intentionally offensive stuff. But I do know what you mean, much of the distinctive idiosyncrasies of the smiths vocal parts are probably only the way they are because of his personality.
His use of notes is exquisite. Saw him at The Hacienda in 1983 age 16, I hadn’t seen much, but never seen anything like him. Melody just floods out of him.
As much as i like Marr, truly, people must stop to say he was the heart of the Smiths. Saw, Smith in concert, saw Morrisey alone, saw Marr. Please people, take charisma, voice, emotions. No contest Morrisey has go it hands down. Long life to Marr, morrisey and who know.. the Smiths one day.
Cheers. I agree 100% with you, and besides being such a star, he's very accessible. I waited for him at the end of the concert and he was very kind to chat, take pictures and sign records. Such a nice guy...
Damn, Johnny nails it. My girl and I being both newly homeless were traveling down a highway leaving San Francisco in California packing on foot with big trucks passing us at close range and nearly blowing us down hears me belting out "If a ten truck, kills the both of us, to die by your side,,,,,,,,,,". She is hysterically asking me what the hell Im singing. She is now a Smyths fan.
I was never a Smiths fan... but this has definitively converted me! JM has such a good sound...tight groovy band too! Damn... that breakdown at 3:00 with the guitar riff and the crowd singing... goosebumps moment!!!

fantastic version played tonight at king Georges Hall Blackburn, Johnny and his fellow band members were absolutely spectacular, loved every single second of the gig x
Me puse a llorar con esto sabiendo teorías de la separación de marr y morrissey que acabaron con the smiths, los amo a ambos, digan lo que digan. ♡ que buena calidad de esta canción interpretada por el mismo Johnny
The heart of the Smiths, and great on his own.
No no no. The Smiths were more than the sun of the parts. Don’t forget the person who wrote the words.
They're both great on their own. But they're unbeatable together. Squash the beef boys!
Absolutely!
@@austin78993 YES!
@@MarlboroughBlenheim1 and Marr wrote the instrumental.
he has learned to use his voice nicely.
Considering the burden of replace Morrissey he's doing a good job.
Agreed - he's proof that you can improve your voice through practice. He used to be be painful to listen to, but now he's great.
his guitar too
Totally serviceable, I agree.
Kind of like Noel G. He has developed into a pretty strong singer.
Have you ever not wanted a song to ever end
as the "light" it should never "goes out" indeed
Ever heard of "repeat"?
Honestly: in 1986 I recorded a 120min tape just with this track
A very gifted guitarist, songwriter and all-round gent. Always looks genuinely excited to be on stage and not doing it just to pay the rent.
You are absolutely right!
I very much doubt that Mr Marr pays rent lol
Really true.
Lord Marr loves what he does: play, sing and entertain the audience.
That is the essence of the Artist (with a big A).
@@TheGalwayFarmer Indeed. Figure of speech. 🙂
That must be so rewarding to have the audience sing your song back to you like that, brought me to tears.
For sure it should be

4:25-5:10 That guitar riff never gets old!!
as good as in the first day
I could listen to that all day tbh
Beautiful melody
That’s not a riff, that’s a solo
@LesBrucalifsMedia not a solo but an arpeggio which can also be a riff
Never has a guitar looked and sounded cooler on a human being!!!! The best ever
So true...

this song is like a warm blanket.

Nice one
LOL I would not go that far but I do agree that he has a good job singing The Smiths songs.
Better than Moz? Put down the crackpipe.
Now now
He makes it very good.. 🎶👍
Proof that self-absorption and truculence ages less well than soulful talent.

Such a shame they aint together anymore, Moz´s vocals and Johnny´s guitar are a perfect match
