  • Due to insanely high demand I decided to make a quick update video on how the 2013 Mustang GT is doing after all the milage I have put on it in the past year. I go through my build list, talk of the future, and some of the downsides to having these mods. Thanks for watching!

Really nice update David! You were definitely brave when you decided to install the diffuser and spoiler, but you made the right choice for sure, it still looks amazing. Can't believe you're at 35k already, I got my BRZ June of 2012 as well and I haven't even hit 24k yet! Good to hear the Mustang is holding up well for you!

I can agree with that, cars are meant to put miles on them. Just went past the 70k mark on my 08 Civic Si and I'm gonna turbo it before I hit 100k. You're making me want to get a 2013 Mustang GT for my next car lol

ThatDudeinBlue Have you driven a 2013 STI? I'm going between the 2013 STI or 2013 Mustang GT. Well 2013 or newer because it's gonna be a few years before I'm ready to buy. Looking at the specs on paper they are very close and pricing is similar. I know it's gonna come down to test driving each one, just want to see if you've driven each and if so what you thought of the STI.

    • @ThatDudeinBlue
      @ThatDudeinBlue  10 лет назад +2

I've driven both indeed, and the Mustang is quicker in a straight line and M3 performance for bends if you have the experience.
But the Sti is good especially if you live somewhere that gets snow etc. It's a very balanced car. The Mustang was for me though because I just love brutal acceleration out of the box.

Current E46 M3 6 speed manual stock with just a cold air intake. Daily driven, daily beat up, and occasionally tracked with 230,000 kms (Canadian). She's still going great and the most expensive job done to it was the full brake job. Oil and gas and she's still going after 3 years.

my dads lincoln navigator has 266,000 MILES currently. the chassis, engine, everything is still strong. he drives it daily to work. my spitfire is 45 years old and probably *cough* PROBABLY has 175,000-225,000 miles. its been lightly restored, but you can still give it some as long as maintenance is up. then my mothers 99' bmw z3 2.5 has 176,000 miles and is no joke like new. the previous owner was one of our friends who is a bmw enthusiast and took meticulous care. the paint is even still squeaky and glassy smooth.

My father bought a 2005 Dodge Cummins new in 05, it just passed 400k miles & has given him no problems, still drives it and uses it as a work truck. Very easy as it is a Cummins and will outlast the sun.
Also has a 1997 Dodge 1500 gasser, bought new, and it is a 407k miles, no major problems either, but on a second transmission.
And lastly has a 1971 Chevy C10, 300k miles but has a swapped Chevy 350 with about 70k miles.
Take care of your vehicles and they'll treat you right.

I had a 1992 Nissan Hardbody pickup that I bought with 45,000 in 1995, by the time I bought a brand new Frontier pickup in 1998, it had 167,000 miles(nearly 41,000 miles per year driven). ZERO problems, just oil/filters, air filters, belts and tires(and a set of shocks too). Regret getting rid of it. I think I gave it one tune up during the time I owned it too, was a great truck!

To answer the question of the day- My last mustang was a 2003 Mustang Pony Package.I bought it with 3 miles on it and I got it up to 140,000. I grew-up and lived in the Raleigh, NC area. I have done 2-3 drives from Raleigh to LA as well as Virginia beach and Phili area. Too many things started going on with it so Feb. 2013 I traded it in for my current '13 Mustang MCA Edition.
Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it.

Toyota Soarer - bought it with 84,000km, sold with 262,000km is my record - so that's 178,000km covered or about 110,000 miles. Only things that broke were the harmonic balancer (separated) and the alternator (just worn out) - replaced the shocks once with bilsteins at around 150,000km as one of the originals had started to weep, and a few of the suspension and steering bushes just before I sold it as the front end was starting to get a bit vague - other than that it developed a few oil leaks up top around the 200,000km mark which were easily fixed with a new set of cam seals and cam cover gaskets and distributor o-ring, and just regular servicing including the majors like cam belt and water pump - was an amazing car, but if you look after most modern cars properly they will cover huge mileages.

My 2007 V6 Mustang just hit 100k miles. I haven't had to replace anything on it yet. I change the Oil every 3k miles and I don't drive it rough... However in another year or 2 I'd like to sell it and move up to a GT. However I may just try and find a 2014 because I honestly can't stand the way the 2015 looks =\ Doesn't look like a mustang to me..

my brother bought a 97 toyota celica GT almost a year ago with 170,000 miles in pretty good shape, put alot of work into it to make it mint, and now im about to buy it with almost 180,000 miles and i plan on keeping it for as long as possible. it was one of the last enthusiast based cars toyota ever made and it's still rockin long roadtrips and commutes fine. just because a car has mileage doesn't mean its something to avoid, as you said cars were made to be driven.

I still drive my first car. It's a 2011 Ford Mustang GT (5.0) and so far, I haven't done a single thing to it, besides getting new tires. Recently, I had this problem when I inserted the key, it wouldn't turn over. The last time it happened I applied too much force and the key exploded into 3 parts (one part was still jammed in the tumbler) and I had to call Triple A to tow Charlene to the dealership. Yes I named my car Charlene. I forget what the problem was, but 29,954.7 miles later she is still with me lol

1st car was a 1995 BMW E36 coupe drove from 2010-2012 (135000 to 165000 miles). had a ton of mods, looked and drove great. broke down a lot.
2nd car was a 2004 acura tl sedan with a 6MT drove from 2012-2013 (125000 to 145000 miles). no real mods, quick but didn't drive that great, never broke down or gave any problems.
3rd and current car is 2008 BMW 328I sedan 6MT. bought it at 63000 now has about 71000 miles. few mods, quick, handles well great daily. small issues but seems to be doing okay.
i'm seriously thinking of getting either a 5.0 or a Hemi Challenger next year hopefully the '15 will push the prices of these a little lower.

I do think the transmission has been replaced, but engine still runs strong. Over 110k on a 05 F150 and we had just broken the thing in. Lol. Never had one problem with it. But of course we took care of it. With the exception that I swapped out the rear shocks because the old ones got a hole blasted through them from 2 blown out tires that also ruptured my rear brake lines. Other than the all was good. I wanted a new F150, and when the new 11 F150 came out I went out and bought it, haven't looked back ever since. Love it !

First car, 1992 Geo Tracker manual. 452,568 miles on it when I traded it in and got $500 in trade value!! Got it from my uncle with about 280,000. I drove the doors off that thing lol. My friends and I nicknamed the engine, 'the little engine that could'. Oh that tiny 1.7L was a beast lol. The A/C and heater worked like a charm! Between the time I had it and sold it I did a ton of mods on it though. Put a 3in body lift and a 2in suspension lift, put some 33in M/T mud tires with crager blacked out rims on it. Painted it all black, k&N cold air filter. Did an engine tune up, went with straight pipe exhaust. (made it sound like a pissed off bumble bee haha) all new sound system. Kenwood head unit, 4 (6' 1/2") speakers, 2 (6x9's) and one 15' Memphis sub crammed behind the tiny back bench seat and the door! And it actually managed to sound pretty decent Haha. Had two KC lights mounted on the brackets where the sun visor had gone, up by the soft top. Had two mini LED light bars on the front and two in the back. By the time I sold it everything still worked! Minus the oil leak it had, bad rear main seal. But I never really had to change the oil I just kept adding more lol. And surprisingly enough it kept on running and it still is! A 17 year old kid bought it the day after I sold it and I still see it driving on the road everyday. He's done a lot to it though. Fixed the oil leak, replaced some bushings, patched some holes in the metal floor, new brakes. But still the same engine and trans! Clutch, etc... I'll never forget that little thing! My get around ride, play toy and one dependable little beast! It'll die soon but I have no idea when! Lol

Thanks for the comment on the throttle body. I have a 2012 mustang GT atm and read that the throttle body helps more with forced induction applications. I had a throttle body for a mid 90s Camaro I owned and couldn't tell much of a difference for the 4-5 hundred dollars it cost. If you're going to keep your car "non-forced induction" I recommend the Steeda CAI - most people with an Air Raid or JLT CAI that switch to the Steeda are happier (read about the Steeda CAI on the Steeda website and you'll see why). My 2 cents from a middle aged experienced modder...

2008 Dodge Charger. Got it used when I graduated in 09 with 15,000 miles on it when I traded it in for my Challenger in 2012 it had 100,000 miles. At the time I was going to school in Nashville and I would come home to MS a lot so they were mostly highway miles. And plus I like cruising. It's how I clear my head, how I relax. I've actually taken girls on dates where we just drive around and they love it.

I've had the same 1991 Honda Accord LX for five years now. I got it with about 84,000 miles on it and today it sits at 199,133. It is all stock besides some upgraded speakers because the old, factory ones blew. The car is 99.9% stock besides the speakers and everything works inside and outside the car. One day I do plan on getting a Nissan 240SX fastback with the SR20 swap.

I just hit 26k in my 12 GT...
I got it NOT to be my daily driver, but rather my after work and weekend ass kicker. I drive 185 miles round trip daily to work so there was no way I would do that with a brand new mustang! We have very similar mods except for the throttle body. My o/r H pipe does make any loose change vibrate for sure! Unfortunately I am a full blown horsepower junkie so there is MUCH more to come as finds allow. Next step is headers, boss heads, cobra jet cams, and a little more suspension work. Not going to get too crazy as long as I'm still making payments.

I agree with you 100% on cars should be driven and not kept in a garage! I bought my Evo X, which is my first car, back in March of 2011. It had 12k miles on it when I got it, and I just turned 66k. I'm happy and sad about how quickly I'm racking up the miles, but it makes me smile every time I drive it!

My mom's 01 Honda Odyssey has almost 180k miles on it. Been cross country many times, and the thing is rust free for being 13 years old. Has a rebuilt transmission also because the stock one just stopped one day. It's nothing special, but it holds a lot of sentimental value to me.

I bought a brand new 2007 Silverado classic with about 70miles on it. Traded it in at 168,900 miles. Reason I kept it is because I put so much into it and had the nicest truck in school. I got rid of it early 2013 with $9,000+ just in system. I had four amps, three batteries, two alternators, four 12s, four TV s, three cd players ( one for bass, one for treble highs, and the thrice for video)

Hands down most reliable car I've owned. I work with a guy who drives a 1993 Civic DX hatchback with over 350,000 miles. No joke, he tows a trailer with four wheelers when he goes camping. Hey Dave! Some ideas for future mods, not boost driven...:
    1. Boss Tranny Cooler, cheap, easy bolt on and just a nifty part
    2. Rear Brake upgrade, I was looking at the Brembo Gt500 rear upgrade and would really look good filling up the rear tires. Also better stopping power of course
    3. Grab Royal Purple Synchromax fluid, really clears up shifting
    4. Aluminum drive shaft. Just sounds sweet.
Anyway these are what I am going to at on to my GT. Hope all is well and make sure you go to a track day sometime. It was honestly the most exhilarating driving experience ever.

I bought a 96 Olds Aurora with 129,XXX miles on it and when the rear shock blew out causing me to spin off into a ditch snaping the steering rack it was at 256,XXX miles. Those were hard miles too. Romping around town while in high school to cross country trips from Maine to Arizona for college. At the time of the accident the car was burning some oil, but I though I could have gotten up to 300k if I would have babied it more. The problem was I put Flowmaster 40 series exhaust on it so it sounded like a muscle car with the Northstar V8; which in turn meant I floored it everywhere.

The car I put most miles on was a 1995 Ford Mondeo - the one that was the Contour in the states. I bought it in 2000 with 48K miles on it before I went to college because I decided, that I would need a car that would bring through my studies. After I graduated I kept the car as my winter/daily driver and bought a 2001 Trans Am for the summer. Maybe I would still have it today if I wouldn't have lost control of it 2 days after my 30th birthday in 2009 and drove it into a ditch. By then it had 131K miles on it. Engine was still running but there was really no justification for repairing such an old body. But me and that Ford came a long way together...

To answer your QOTD, Just over 100K miles on a 99 Chevy Blazer. it was my first real brand new vehicle, and first 4wd. Drove it for 5 years, and looped the country with it. 2nd would be my Jeep (still own). Bought it used in 08 with 63K miles on it, and now it has 127K. I tend to trade main vehicles often because there's just so many I like. I did have an 08 Mustang GT because I just had to have a piece of that heritage. Loved it, but I got rid of it because they up'd the HP so much in 2010 that I felt seriously outdated, and also because the winters here mean it got parked in the garage for about 3 months. That was putting a lot of miles on the Jeep. So now I have my Jeep and my 13 WRX. Both are tons of fun in all four seasons :) Also, I really like the mods you made on the smurrf. Great adjustments for the money, and it's not overboard.

I currently drive a 1991 Toyota Camry it was my older sisters first car and my first car. I started driving the car when it had 265k miles on it and it now sits at 297k 4 years later. Its not fast or sporty but it has a sentimental value to me and I love it. When all else fails the Camry will run, only thing that has been replaced was a gas tank, a radiator, a power steering unit, some door handles and lights and of course the normal maintenance items. The thing floats around on original struts like a 50's chevy but I don't care. I am actually thinking of buying a new to me car soon probably a Subaru Impreza or something but I will never sell Catalina too many fond memories and I'm also convinced that it will probably make it another 50k before something goes really wrong
