"Happy Together" was a number one hit for The Turtles in 1967. It's one of the songs that defines the sixties, imo. When you're ready for more from The Turtles, check out some of these classics: "Elenore", "You Baby", "You Showed Me", "She'd Rather Be With Me", and "It Ain't Me Babe".

Another great group from the 60's. The Turtles are an American rock band formed in 1965. "Happy Together" is their biggest hit in 1967. But they had a lot of great songs such as "It Ain't Me Babe", "Let Me Be", "You Baby", "Grim Reaper Of Love", "Can I Get To Know You Better", "She'd Rather Be With Me", "You Know What I Mean", "She's My Girl", "Elenore", "You Showed Me" etc.

Believe it or not, I saw "The Turtles" at an outdoor park, sitting on a blanket, on a nice sunny day. There were three bands that day. I saw this song live. I also saw the Kingsman perform "Louie Louie" as well as Paul Revere and the Raiders perform "Indian Reservation". Paul Revere's keyboards were built into the front of an old Ford Mustang. Those three bands, all on that same day, sitting on that same blanket. This was years ago of course.
Trivia fact ->The Turtles founder, Mark Volman, wrote music for the band "Duran Duran".
On edit....it was so long ago, I forgot that I also saw Herman Hermits sing "There's a kind of Hush" on that same day as well. It was four bands now that I recall.

Some surprising online info on the song: "Despite what the title implies, this is not a song about a couple in love. According to Gary Bonner, who wrote the song with Alan Gordon, the song is about unrequited love. Our desperate singer wants the girl to "imagine how the world could be so very fine," proposing what would happen "if I should call you up." The line in the fadeout, "How is the weather?" is when he realizes they will never be more than passing acquaintances, as he resorts to small talk to keep from bursting into tears."

Happy Together is one of the most contagious songs ever written. Another song not often heard anymore is "You Baby" a "so 1965" sounding song with the electric twelve string guitar.. The music of the 1960's was so damn fun. I saw the two front men of the Turtles in an oldie s concert in 1986, with Gary Lewis and the Playboys [well, one playboy and some new guys], the Buckinghams and the Grass Roots, all famous 60's bands.

A huge #1 song in 1967. Depending on which chart you look at, "Happy Together" was either the #1, #2, or #3 song of the year. No matter how you measure it, it was one of the top 5 songs of 1967. The Turtles had a short, but productive run as a pop group, with hits like "It Ain't Me Babe," "You Baby," "She'd Rather Be With Me," "You Showed Me," "Elenore," and "She'd Rather Be With Me." By the 1970s, their star had fallen and the two front men of the group dissolved the group and went off and formed a new, more progressive group called "Flo and Eddie," which developed something of a cult following. But they never enjoyed quite the same commercial success as The Turtles. In an age when the charts were dominated by the British Invasion from across the ocean and the Motown sound here at home, The Turtles were one of the few American bands that broke through and had huge success.

This is y'all's theme song, Jacksons. One of the joys of experiencing music with the two of you, is to see your fully alive ears, but also your fully alive love for music and each other. And your fans too, it would appear. It was a blessing to grow up with such uplifting music all around us. And it gives me, and many others, I suspect, a particular joy to see that the music is not disappearing down the memory hole, but being given a new life, a second and third life. In a word, immortality. Long may your uplifting show thrive!
The Turtles were associated with Frank Zappa, and I got to see an iteration known as Flo & Eddie, who were the lead singers of The Turtles. Intellectuals with good hearts. Their other hits are worth a listen, but this one is one-of-a-kind special. May you always be happy together.

The Turtles were an interesting band perpetually at odds with their record label. Here they took a song that many other bands had turned down because it was too sappy, and they turned it into a huge hit, still their signature song. But while they wanted to write their own songs and change their sound as music changed, their record label wanted them to just keep buying more songs like Happy Together. They wound up mocking the song with the song "Eleanor" which became their second biggest hit. But it comes from an album called "The Battle of the Bands" in which each song is supposed to have been recorded by a different band in a different genre.
They were also one of the funniest bands of the 60's with a lot of tongue in cheek songs, like their surf song "Surfer Dan" or "I'm Chief Kamanawanalea (We're the Royal Macadamia Nuts)" by Chief Kamanawanalea and the Royal Macadamia Nuts.
The two main Turtles have been together since the 60's, for a while as Flo and Eddie and as a radio announcers in California, as back up singers on an amazing number of songs, and for the last decade or so as the hosts of an oldies tour (called the Happy Together tour) in which they perform with 5 or 6 other bands from the 60's each performing 5 songs (because they are in their 70's by now, except for the Cowsills who were children stars). They were holding the tour up until the pandemic. I don't know if they will start it up again.

The Turtles has an impressive string of hits. "Elenore" is also one of my favorites. There is a lot to hear in this rabbit hole. I'm on a crusade to expose you to one of the best pop groups of the '70s: The Grass Roots". They had a string of hits from 1967-1975. Start off with "Midnight Confessions" here's a link (ruclips.net/video/k8qvOOQl1SM/видео.html ). The video isn't great but it's the original version of the song. It has an iconic opening bass line and great horn arraignment.. They're second hit is "Let's Live For Today" (ruclips.net/video/mZkT9jbzRwY/видео.html) which was very popular with the soldiers in Viet Nam. There are many more great songs and once you hear these, you'll want to hear more. This is also a rabbit hole very worthy of your time.

I love love songs!💖 For a short and ultra sweet one by The Beatles, from their 1966 Revolver album, listen to "Here, There and Everywhere" 💞

Saw these guys at a hotel with Micky Dolenz from the Monkees. As I'm talking to Micky, singer Howard passes brushing by me saying "out of my way". Saw him lobby 10 minutes later and he apologized and was so nice took a picture with me and signed autographs.

My memory of this song was riding on the school bus to Jr. High in the morning and the bus driver had the radio playing for us.🥰
