He was an addict for decades and passed in 2011. He was briefly married to Olivia Newton-John’s sister, Rona, in the early 80’s. Annette Cardona (Cha Cha) also passed in 2011, from lung cancer. Rob got a good singing voice. Fun to watch due to Rob's love for it. BTW, Frenchie's Breauty School drop out is played by Frankie Avalon who was one half of a 50s power couple Frankie and Annette who starred in the Beach Party movies. He was the teen heartthrob of his day. Most of the old actors in Greece were played by television, film and radio legends of the 40s and 50s. The coach was Sid Cesar, the king of Comedy. Eve Arden was the principal...she was a major radio and TV star. Dodie Goodman played her assistant. Joan Blondell was. huge TV and movie star (she plays the owner of the malt shop). And the guy that plays Vince Fontaine -- the host of the dance off - was another heartthrob.
Frankie and Annette were '60s. The beach party movies were '60s (like "Beach Blanket Bingo" from 1965). The era certainly continued well past 1959 though.
I heard she also didn’t have the dance/singing talent they wanted but she faked her way through auditions and got the part based on her charisma! I thought that was pretty cool when you add her age! And explains how she fades to the back during routines
Rizzo dated Danny before. It's really glossed over and you have to catch it or be paying attention. Took me many times watching this to finally pick up on that. It's at the outdoor school lunch scene (summer nights song). The one pink lady Jan says to Rizzo something like "You seen Zuko yet? Looking pretty good hey Rizz". And Rizzo responds "Neah, that's acient history". Gives insight to their interaction when revealing Sandy to Danny at the school bon fire and after climbing down the rose-covered terrace. The break up obviously (now) not being super amicable, at least for Rizzo.
Topp’s teamup with Hollywood back then gave us Star Wars trading cards and Grease trading cards (photography shots while filming, most iconic had highest value) with a free stick of gum. Many random packs ended up being the prize inside the cereal boxes or the toy in the happy meals. Grease is a 70’s parody of the 50’s stereotypical American Graffiti of NYC, in a big screen Musical.
Frankie Avalon (who sang to Frenchy - Beauty School Dropout) did all the teenage beach party movies back in the 60's with Annette Funicello. He was the teen idol for the time period.
@@stevenandcarminabeedle9089 Yup. If you've seen Stand by Me, you'll remember that the boys in that movie also talked about Annette's chest. She was a kid on the Mickey Mouse Club and hit puberty, so everyone in America saw her boobs growing in real time.
The waitress that points out Danny and Sandy (in the quick scene where the waitresses were watching the televised feed of the school dance off) is actually John Travolta’s mother.
I feel like the guys would be the chill dudes that you go to college with, and they host dorm-room movie nights? Altogether just a great group of guys having fun! And honestly, that’s just what the world needs at this point ❤

At the time Grease came out in the theaters in 1978, I was 9 years old and being raised in an abusive, dysfunctional household. As a result, I turned towards watching LOTS of TV and went to the movies as a way of providing myself with escape and comfort from my misery. Back then I was going to the movies with my then best friend. We were a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies. And we went to the movies together once a week, every week for a lot of years from the 1970s-1980s. We saw literally hundreds upon hundreds of movies together over the years. We tried to see every new movie that came out regardless of plot, genre (he loved horror films, I preferred comedy), critics reviews, who was starring in it, etc. So there was no particular reason we went to see Grease. It just happened to be a new movie that was just released. As much as I loved the moviegoing experience in itself regardless of what I saw, as an abused, neglected child, there were a small handful of movies that stood out and managed to hit me in the very right places at the very right time. Grease was one of those movies. Right from my very first viewing, it quickly became one of my all time favorite movies and remains that to this day. In the following years, whenever Grease popped up on tv, I'd drop everything to watch it. Today I own the movie on DVD. Okay, as much as I love Grease, for some inexplicable reason, I actually love Grease 2 more. It would be awesome if you guys would react to it as well! Great reaction as always!
You were right about the guy who plays Knicky. John Travolta won the role of Danny in the movie because he was really popular at the time from being part of the cast of the TV sitcom, Welcome Back, Kotter. Greased Lightning was originally supposed to be Knicky's song, but they thought John didn't have enough songs, so they gave it to him. Jeff Conaway (Knicky) was also on a hit TV series called Taxi. The girl you thought was the mom from That 70s Show wasn't actually on that show, but she was a part of another sitcom; she played one of the daughters on Empty Nest (a grown up Kristy McNichol was the other daughter). Yes, Olivia Newton John was really Australian. In the original Broadway musical, Sandy was American (though she went to a different school before transferring to Rydell High) and her last name was Dumbrowski, so they changed the character to Australian just for her. She was a major pop star in the 70s as well as through the 80s. Sandra Dee was a young movie star in the 50s known for playing innocent, naive, wholesome characters. So by comparing Sandy to Sandra Dee, Rizzo was making fun of her for being too much of a good girl. Rizzo climbed down the side of the house, because she didn't want the parents downstairs to know she was sneaking out. Sandy wasn't sneaking out, she was coming back inside after her song. You're right, the guy who played Frenchie's guardian angel was a big star; he's Frankie Avalon and he had a few hit songs and he starred in several teen beach movies with former Disney Mouseketeer, Annette Funicello. Personally, I think the guardian angel was all Frenchie's imagination, but you could interpret it that way or you can choose to believe it all really happened. It doesn't change the storyline either way; it still convinces Frenchie to go back to Rydell. When you asked if they were all still alive, I think the actors who played teachers have all passed, same with Vince Fontaine and the head waitress at the diner. I think Frankie Avalon is still alive. Jeff Conaway (Knicky) has passed. Other than him and Olivia, all the Rydell students are still with us (though I'm not sure about Eugene and Patty). I'm also not sure about Cha Cha and crater face. The woman who said, "Haul ass, kid" wasn't just a mechanic, she was the Rydell auto shop teacher. She was played by Alice Ghostly who is probably most famous for playing Esmerelda on the TV series Bewitched. Rob I LOVE that you love musicals! Have you seen Singin’ In the Rain or tick, tick… BOOM? If not I’d recommend them! My all time favorite is Meet Me In St Louis but it’s from the 40s which might not be your jam
I was 11 in 1978. I had just seen saturday night fever with my dad and he took me to see this in the movies. I loved john travolta from his early days. Boy in the plastic bubble when i was 9
Fun facts: 1. The waitress in the diner was the Joan Blondell. She was very famous in the 1930s and played in a lot of mobster movies. One of my favorite actresses from that era. 2. Another one of the waitresses was John Travolta’s real mom. 3. The school administrators were also played by actors/actresses who were famous in their hey-day. You guy, in the middle have a really good voice!
Would love for y’all to do Chicago & Moulin Rouge! ❤ Also, the laugh Danny does in the diner after he says “Come on Sandy don’t make me laugh”, direct inspiration for Ryan Goslings laugh in Barbie 😆 Actually, this whole film itself direct inspiration for “I’m Just Ken”
Did you guys happen to watch “Grease: Live”. It was an ABC broadcast of the play and it was great. Especially “Greased Lightning” which you could actually hear the audience going nuts.
Tim Conaway (Kenekie) is deceased, as are the principal, her secretary and the coach. I think the mechanics teacher may have died to . Travolta is alive but lost hos son Jett and his wife not too long ago.
Grease 2, please! Sandy's cousin, Michael is the exchange students and has eyes for Michelle Phiefer (Stefanie). There's a few songs that are over the top hilarious.😂
The singer in Frenchies beauty school song is Frankie Avalon, a big teen film star from the 50s, lots of beach films with Annette Funicello, who the girls sang about in Sandra Dee. They were both in the Mickey Mouse club back in the day. Also, the Pink Ladies are the singers and dancers in that number too.
I always die laughing at the part where Kenickie and Craterface are fighting at the dance then Keneckie stops and grabs ChaCha and aggressively swings her back out to the dance floor 🤣🤣
The older actors were all famous in their own right. From the Golden Age of Hollywood. From the two office ladies, the coach, the dance show announcer, of course Frankie Avalon, teen idol and beach party movies...Sandra Dee very famous also Troy Donahue in the photo. Lastly the band Sha Na Na in the show became famous from this. This soundtrack LP had alot of great songs including the dance show ones. Loved ur reactions as always 🔥
Frankie Avalon played the angel in white in the dream sequence with the girl in the pink hair. He is famous for playing in several teen beach films with Annette Funicello in the mid 60s. Check out "Beach Blanket Bingo".
Sandra Dee was a movie star back in the 50s... Rizzo is played by Stockard Channing- an amazing- Oscar nominated actress, Emmy and Tony winner, best known for work on the West Wing.
Rob throughout this movie is me when I watch it. This movie is a childhood favorite of mine even though I grew up in the 2000’s. I’d come home from school and watch it on vhs. Though idk why my parents let me watch it when I was little as it’s not a kids movie lol😂. It’s my favorite musical next to The sound of music.
I first saw Grease when I was five and had the album too, but it wasn't until years later that I actually heard how filthy some of the lyrics are. Clearly my parents didn't hear that either (they hadn't actually seen the movie, I watched it with my older cousins)
Fun fact: Eddie Deezen, who played "Eugene," voiced one of the "Snap, Crackle and Pop" cereal characters. He also voiced the "know-it-all" in the Christmas movie "The Polar Express."
@@stephanieramirez15 I'm glad you appreciate the sequel and series, Stephanie! Last I heard the series was dropped after the first season... so, unless they find another streaming platform (or regular channel) to pick it up, we might not get anymore of that. But, I agree, the series had a lovely GLEE (2009) flair... in addition to adding more to the lore. I actually worked with the actor who played 'Assistant Principal McGee'. She's brilliant and hilarious. Jackie Hoffman. She also had a scene-stealing bit part in GLASS ONION (2022), which I hope to see Reel-Time react to eventually.
grease is ICONIC. what really makes me sad tho is that it was announced that they did like each other but john mentioned how it never happened because they were seeing different people at the time. that just makes me think about the phrase “right person, wrong time”. ugh i usually don’t like to ship actors who work together but it was something about them that was different and so obvious, even offscreen. i wish it could have been but some things aren’t meant to be. rest in peace olivia 🤍. thanks for the reaction guys
I just absolutely love whenever Bryce sings it’s so funny and charming. Rob definitely got some pipes on him, giving very much I was in choir Wayment I can’t believe I forgot to mention Zuff, but that’s because he’s always singing like a fucking angel
I absolutely adored this movie as a child. We had the VHS and the vinyl record of the soundtrack, and I would watch and listen to it at least twice a week. All of the content went straight over my head, and even as an adult, there are things I'm just now picking up on. This solidified that high schoolers looked so much older than me when I was little.
Actually, John Travolta had 6 songs that charted on The Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The duets with Olivia Newton-John and cast on "Summer Nights" (peaked at #5) and his only #1 hit "You're The One That I Want." In 1976, he reached #10 with his hit "Let Her In." Olivia Newton-John was born in England but her family moved to Australia when she was a little girl and when she came over to the US after winning a singing contest in Australia, her first few hits would on both The Hot 100 Chart but on the Hot Country Singles Chart. She was scared to take on this role because she was 30 years old when they filmed it and it was when she auditioned with John,, he put her at ease and that's how their life-long friendship began. They would do another movie together in 1983 "Two Of A Kind." Other interesting fact, the day they filmed Stockard CHanning singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" where some of the lyrics references Elvis is the day he actually died in real life.
So, we have officially established that: 1) Rob can sing. 2) Rob's Travolta as Danny Zuko is a very good impression. 3) The crew needs to watch more musicals sonwe can get more Rob singing (I vote for Xanadu and Cabaret). This was a DELIGHT. Thank you for what y'all do here - liked and shared.
Sooooo many great times watching this with my friends in high school and college! Members of my senior class performed "We Go Together" for our high school talent show. And this was one of the movies played on the bus when our college choir went on tour, so yeah, full on 4-part harmonies to all the songs! Lol!
Forever a classic ! My mum showed me this when I was like 6 and it was at night, she fell asleep and I remember I got up rewound the vhs to the start and immediately watched it again 🤣
Grease was a huge comfort movie of mine when i was a kid. I couldn't possibly count the amount of times i watched it i was obsessed. Me too. My older sister took me to the movie. And I remember JT from welcome back kotter
Fun facts:
The waitress was actually John Travolta's sister, Ellen Travolta.
Oh, that’s right, his mom was in Saturday Night Fever.
More musicals I would love a reaction to, My Fair Lady, Singin in the Rain, Chicago, Moulin Rouge
Great reaction guys! It was fun being a girl named Sandy when it came out. We miss you ONJ ❤😢
Would love for y’all to do Chicago & Moulin Rouge! ❤
Also, the laugh Danny does in the diner after he says “Come on Sandy don’t make me laugh”, direct inspiration for Ryan Goslings laugh in Barbie 😆
Actually, this whole film itself direct inspiration for “I’m Just Ken”
Did you guys happen to watch “Grease: Live”. It was an ABC broadcast of the play and it was great. Especially “Greased Lightning” which you could actually hear the audience going nuts.
Tim Conaway (Kenekie) is deceased, as are the principal, her secretary and the coach. I think the mechanics teacher may have died to . Travolta is alive but lost hos son Jett and his wife not too long ago.
Ok, Rob you are now my fav lol Grease is one of my absolute fav movies. Also, you can sing bro!
Grease 2, please! Sandy's cousin, Michael is the exchange students and has eyes for Michelle Phiefer (Stefanie).
There's a few songs that are over the top hilarious.😂
At 30:40 Vince flips onto the screen and grabs the mic, pretty impressive 🤣
Loved that Bryce came back with, 🤔"Astronaut?". Quick thinking!!! 👍
I don’t know about anyone else but i absolutely enjoyed watching Rob sing his heart out!!! i love watching y’all’s reaction videos ❤❤
I played Rizzo in high school. I was bummed that I didn't get Sandy but I ended up loving it! U guys definitely have to Watch Moulin Rouge, Chicago.
I always die laughing at the part where Kenickie and Craterface are fighting at the dance then Keneckie stops and grabs ChaCha and aggressively swings her back out to the dance floor 🤣🤣
lmao okayyy, rob. pop off
Been absolutely waiting for this reaction!! You guys loved Hairspray, so I knew you’d love Grease!!
Just discovered this channel and it does my aging Gen-X heart good to see some earnest young gentlemen appreciating a 70's movie musical ❤
Zuff's too polite to call Frankie Avalon "Ancient"lol It's hilariously sweet 😅❤
Sandra Dee was a movie star back in the 50s... Rizzo is played by Stockard Channing- an amazing- Oscar nominated actress, Emmy and Tony winner, best known for work on the West Wing.
An absolute American classic. Top, iconic, no hyperbole
If you’ve watched the West Wing (Risso) Stockard Channing was the President’s wife. Your singing is excellent 👍🏻🤩🏴
"It begins with an A and and ends with a T."
"🤨?"
".... astronaut?"
😂😂😂
I immediately thought asshat 😂
42:37 hearing yall do THIS was so wild😭😭
Right? I was like "god, please nooo💀🙅🏽♀️"
@@Laura-xh4yr LMFAO😭
Jeff Conway (Kenickie) was a replacement Danny Zuko on Broadway. Barry Bostwick was the original.
this was my favourite movie when I was a kid, genuinely got to the stage where I was begging my parents to put it on for me everyday when I was 7
Many thanks to Zuff, Rob and Bryce! 🏫 That was fun. I hope y'all watch GREASE 2 (1982) someday... and even GREASE: RISE OF THE PINK LADIES (2023)!
hell no Grease 2 was god awful, no one should suffer through that
@@Alivviegirl Not everyone agrees with you on that matter.
Cool Riders is so iconic 😩😂👏🏽 I love Grease 2! And the series was much better than I expected!! Can’t wait for a new season!
Idk about the series but Grease 2 is great! It’s smaller but still iconic. Cool Rider is a banger.
Rizzo is in a ton of movies. Practical magic is something I think you saw.
rob has such a good voice hold on
I know this movie word for word start to finish. Glad you appreciated it as much as myself.
grease is ICONIC. what really makes me sad tho is that it was announced that they did like each other but john mentioned how it never happened because they were seeing different people at the time. that just makes me think about the phrase “right person, wrong time”. ugh i usually don’t like to ship actors who work together but it was something about them that was different and so obvious, even offscreen. i wish it could have been but some things aren’t meant to be. rest in peace olivia 🤍. thanks for the reaction guys
I just absolutely love whenever Bryce sings it’s so funny and charming. Rob definitely got some pipes on him, giving very much I was in choir
Wayment I can’t believe I forgot to mention Zuff, but that’s because he’s always singing like a fucking angel
Astronaut? 🤣🤣 … better than any guess I could think of
Can't beat a great musical. Now we need more musical reactions.
“You know how it is rockin and rollin and what not” 🤣
As much as I love watching first time reactions, I do wish more people would do re-reactions of films. Singing along with you guys was great 😂
I absolutely adored this movie as a child.
The duets with Olivia Newton-John and cast on "Summer Nights" (peaked at #5) and his only #1 hit "You're The One That I Want." In 1976, he reached #10 with his hit "Let Her In."
Olivia Newton-John was born in England but her family moved to Australia when she was a little girl and when she came over to the US after winning a singing contest in Australia, her first few hits would on both The Hot 100 Chart but on the Hot Country Singles Chart. She was scared to take on this role because she was 30 years old when they filmed it and it was when she auditioned with John,, he put her at ease and that's how their life-long friendship began. They would do another movie together in 1983 "Two Of A Kind."
Other interesting fact, the day they filmed Stockard CHanning singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" where some of the lyrics references Elvis is the day he actually died in real life.
So, we have officially established that:
1) Rob can sing.
2) Rob's Travolta as Danny Zuko is a very good impression.
3) The crew needs to watch more musicals sonwe can get more Rob singing (I vote for Xanadu and Cabaret).
This was a DELIGHT.
Thank you for what y'all do here - liked and shared.
I had a friend that thought in "You're the one that I want" the first lyric was "I got shoes, they're made of plywood" 🤣
LMAOOOOO
Never heard that one 😭
I had no business watching this as a child, but I love this movie
Sooooo many great times watching this with my friends in high school and college! Members of my senior class performed "We Go Together" for our high school talent show. And this was one of the movies played on the bus when our college choir went on tour, so yeah, full on 4-part harmonies to all the songs! Lol!
Forever a classic ! My mum showed me this when I was like 6 and it was at night, she fell asleep and I remember I got up rewound the vhs to the start and immediately watched it again 🤣
I'm very impressed with Rob knowing the words to all the songs! ❤
Petition for more reactions where Rob sings pls! Cos I’m already living💅🏼🫶🏼❤️
Rob's voice is actually really good
rob was killing it🤭
Now a Grease 2 reaction is a must
Grease 2 next you guy will love it
I looooove this movie sooooo much! The songs are just...legendary ! Can you make a video on Grease 2 ???
I recommend the movie Chicago, the Sister Act Movies, and Dreamgirls. Great reaction as always!❤
I love Dreamgirls 💃🏽🕺🏽
Grease was a huge comfort movie of mine when i was a kid. I couldn't possibly count the amount of times i watched it i was obsessed. It might have been partially because of the major crush i had on Rizzo even before i realized im a lesbian lmao. No but the music is so fun and its so enjoyable im glad you guys reacted to it!
The car turned into Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang at the end. That's another musical to watch.
Rob, you've got a lovely singing voice.
29:22 She performed as Rizzo in the live broadcast TV musical, a mere day after her father passed away. I remember thinking, "THAT'S true professionalism."
Sandra Dee was a young actress who played in a lot of teen films in the late 50s.
I also had this soundtrack growing up and I love it so much !
Iconic classic!! I highly recommend you guys to watch CHICAGO (2002) musical, it has such a good story and amazing performances
It’s amazing!!!! My favorite musical
