Platinum was my first Pokemon Game, and honestly I haven't found a Pokemon game that I love as much as it since. My major issue with HG/SS is that it doesn't work on the DS XL, which since It took me a year to earn the money for the DSXL and then another month to make the money to buy SS I found extremely disappointing, like here is this platform and this game that both came out as the same time by the same company but they don't work together for some reason.

Gen 4 is flawed but it is a great generation adds a lot of lore to the world of pokemon which is something that should have been brought up the fact that Sinnoh and Johto now have an established connection together. Oh also kanto and hoenn also share this feature which I should have brought up. ONE big thing is how this generation really established event/mythical pokemon such as Darkrai, shaymin, and even the spiky eared pichu!

Gen 4 is pretty much the “God” of all gens. Not only does it improve world building by teaching us about the creation of Time, Space, Distortion World, and God itself but it has the single most important improvement of any gen. Special/physical split. This made bad Pokémon good. Nothing will ever beat this. I started my Pokémon adventure in Hoenn so this isn’t nostalgia speaking. Gen 4 is genuinely a gen that is high above the rest. If you don’t think so then i recommending you stop whatever you’re smoking.

Sinnohs exploration is the best for me, the issue with the number of HMs required imo was that most are pretty bad as moves, at least for single player, so yeah the necessary HM slave at some points is a small downside. But ultimately my favorite region. I actually love route 217 because it's like... How can I put this... It's like I'm IN the region y'know? Like you're experiencing Sinnoh, the region is alive and it's climate in full force for the first time aside from Hoenn's ocean. Not just 217 either, the mountainous aspects with how important Coronet is are also great to me. Though i get why some wouldn't like it.
And idk about everyone in team galactic aside from Cyrus being forgettable, I really like the admins. It's the first time I could distinguish between them personality wise and they have more presence than the admins before and honestly most that came after. You have Jupiter who's important to Barry's arc, Mars' fight at valley windworks is infamous and your first sign of danger, Saturn is the calmest/most "honorable" when he lets you free the lake trio and then Charon in Platinum who tries to run things after Cyrus stays in Dist.World. I don't think most could remember what the magma and aqua admins looked like before the ORAS redesigns. Admittedly they are outlandish looking, though it's likely the point and they rock it lol.

    Gen 4 is my favorite
Platinum and HG/SS are the best games integrated series and Sinnoh and Jotho are my favorite regions by far.
Gen 4 also contains some of my all time favorite Pokémon and Rivals.
As for Diamond and Pearl I also really enjoy these games but the level difference between the 8th Gym and the Elite 4 and Cynthia is just ridiculous.
My Teams mostly contain Infernape, Staraptor and Luxray either of them were always a part of my Sinnoh playthroughs. 🥰
I also really liked the 5th gen but these two gens are the ones which I started with. 😂❤️

How to make a Pokemon game to please all the fans:
    ● Have the base difficulty and explorability of Platinum (maybe an additional toggle difficulty option for an even harder mode)
    ● Include the amount of features and content of HG and SS including the (phenomenal!) post game content
    ● Have the maturity and expansive story of Gen 5
    ● Make the npc characters as memorable as these two gens
    ● Make getting legendaries and mythical a true event again
    ● If it's in 3D still, have the animations of PKM Collosium and make the world look enticing to explore; if it's back in 2D again, use the sprite animations from B2 and W2

Honestly gen 4 is my favorite because it had the best meta. It was at a point where there was just enough aggression to prevent stall wars, but not enough to create a power creep. The pokemon had relatively balanced stats, and the physical special split benefitted almost every pokemon. Gen 5 was also great game-wise, but the meta started to get a power creep, and gen 6 and 7 added more pokemon and balanced the power creep out with megas and z moves to improve not so viable pokemon, but gen 4 just felt like such a volatile meta, almost anything (except for pokemon weak to stealth rock) could do pretty well

Gen 4 came out when I was 12, so I guess because it was my coming of age years maybe I was able to find new appreciation. I understood more about the games than I ever did before. This was the Generation where I stopped challenging the E4 with my starter and 5 random Pokémon that were just the highest level Pokémon I could find in the wild (though I did nearly complete the Pokédex in Emerald), this was where I started actually team building and honestly building synergetic teams is an obsession of mine ever since 😅

  • @mcgoldenblade4765
    @mcgoldenblade4765 5 лет назад +2

I'm gonna be honest here and say HGSS is kinda overrated. It is definitely the best of the remakes and is one of the better main series titles out there, but there are a few problems I had with it. The lack in variety of Pokemon was a problem in the original versions and though it's been patched up a *little bit* it's still a bit of a problem. The level curves are also probably the worst in the series. By the 8th gym almost all the trainers have pokemon in the level 30s yet all the wild pokemon are in the early 20s. That is just sad. The post game isn't really that good either, it's basically you exploring a more boring region than the one in the main story and is also one you've explored 3 times prior in the series. It's the largest postgame in the series by default, but it's not really that impressive due to how small the first half is. I'm kinda hesitant to even call it a post game, it feels more like a natural progression of the main adventure rather than an extension. HGSS are definitely great games, I'd place in at #4 in my personal list of favorite main series titles, but I still enjoyed Platinum, BW and B2W2 more.

I was a massive Pokefan when Gen 1 and 2 came out. I played Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Silver. Missed Crystal. But I played all of those, and beat 'em all. Along with spending time trading with friends. I also bought toys, collected the cards, went and watched the first movie in theaters... I was way into Pokemon.
Then.... gen 3 happened. I missed R/S/E completely. I didn't even know they existed. Somehow I ended up getting Fire Red, but still didn't know about RSE.
And then Diamond and Pearl got announced. I was hyped as hell. Pearl was the first game I ever pre-ordered. Got the neat Palkia stylus and everything. And, well, I loved it. I played the absolute hell out of it. It was my first NEW Pokemon game since Gold and Silver. Once I beat the E4, I spent most of my time on the old Nintendo Nsider forums swapping friend codes to trade Pokemon. I had all of gen 1 and 4, most of 2, and like half of 3. Even had a few shinies I managed to trade for. And then my DS got stolen, along with the games. I was not happy. And as an aside, I spent way too much time in the underground.
Due to my DS up and running off, I missed HG/SS.
I did eventually get an original 2DS thanks to a friend gifting me one. But I was broke as hell and couldn't buy games for it. And homebrew kinda sucked at the time. Wasn't until like, a year ago that I finally homebrewed my 2DS and tossed a ridiculous amount of games on it. I have every generation of Pokemon from 1 to 7 on it, as well as an unofficial Pokemon Bank that lets me transfer between the games. So I've been slowly playing through each generation (not really in any order), and transferring the Pokemon over to Ultra Moon. So far I've finished Platinum and Black. Playing Black 2 currently. Then I'll probably swap to ORAS. I'll most likely save HG/SS and FR/LG for last since I've played gen 1 and 2 to death.

Needless to say, I got rektd and lost to her like 20 times over again. I got mad and restarted the whole game. On the 2nd playthrough I lost twice, went Hyperbolic time chamber mode, and pretty much wanked the elite 4 with my Infernape, Starapter, Togetic, and Giratina and pretty much solo'd Cynthia with Lucario. I do believe that Generation 4, specifically the original three games, is the best generation to introduce someone to, and I’m not just saying that because it was the generation that introduced me to the main series.
The games are just basic enough to get a grasp on how the main series works while being interesting enough to set itself apart from any future Pokémon games you intend to play.
Also, going in with Gen 4 as your first means you probably won’t have a problem with the speed. You wouldn’t have anything to compare it to, and most likely wont even notice in the future until people start pointing it out. That’s what happened to me at least. And exposure to faster Pokémon games did not decrease my enjoyment at all.

My Experience with gen 4 when it was the current Generation: I had only had Diamond version for sinnoh, I started with Piplup first but immediately went to Chimchar after the third gym, in fact i think i restarted this game to change things how i went through this game more than any other game, Eventually i decided to make a team that had Pokemon that my rival did not use in his team for that playthrough, I eventually Defeated the sinnoh league with Partner the Infernape, Weasel the Floatzel, Blimp the Drifblim, Skunk the Skuntank, Shocker the Raichu, and Winter the Abomasnow, and raised them to levels 59-63. It was the game that i finally learned how to raise a team of pokemon instead of just use my starter and legendary pokemon to try and beat the story, and the advantage of not using pokemon withsimilar typing. It was actually the easiest game to win up to that point for me until i went back to the old games and tried the same approach on them, Big difference from first time playing and replaying with the new approach, I had Heart Gold as my Gen 4 Jhoto Game, and It was tricky trying to put together a team, i eventually ended up using a poor team that i barely won with, Typhlosion, Noctowl, Kingler, Ampheros, Umbreon, and Parasect. Not my proudest team due to my play style at the time, but hey i was still learning.I never did beat the kanto after game with that team, I was stuck on Brock of all people. 0_0'

Kanto and Johto, childhood memories all over again, but then with better mechanics/looks and whatnot. I didn't really like GEN4 a lot, but the remakes of gen2 I will play a lot of times, again. Like, each new generation, the weeks before the games comes out, I replay the whole of Soul Silver again. Just for the fun of it xD It are the best games, soul silver is :P
    Now gonna watch the video.

Gen 4 is what introduced me to Pokemon. It's my favorite generation with my favorite champion. Before generation 4 I was a Mario and Zelda kind of guy.

I am playing through every pokemon game, currently on Black 2. Only doing the third/enhanced versions of each. I'll tell you one thing... Yellow and Platinum were very hard to play through. Slow and often tedious. I believe they are the most challenging ones but I don't think it's due to actual challenge but the instead the very slow nature. Leveling up is a painstaking slog. I love them to death though and think they are fantastic games but compared to others it feels quite dated when others hold up well. (Yellow feels dated for obviously it is the oldest.)
Anyway, great review and keep up the good work!

Very weird of you to complain about Platinum level grind being hard and not even mention the Gen2 games where it's actually a problem. Platinum's VS Seeker is one of the easiest level grinding tools in any of the games

@@houndofculann1793 It certainly helps but in my opinion, it still doesn't help considerably. You have to recharge it running around and hope that the trainers with strong pokemon are the ones that want a rematch. The leveling system is slow on its own and is not as consistent as later gens. I found Gen 3 to be better and Gen 1/2 have their own issues that I find overshadow the leveling, even though it's a problem as well. Platinum is amazing and one of my favorite games ever and took many steps in the right direction. Hopefully they bring back a way to rematch trainers again in S/S.

@@houndofculann1793 Also, just for the record, I never stated the level grind was hard. I said the game was hard to get through. The leveling was slow and tedious and not as fun as it could or should have been. The challenge only exists if you don't sink hours of your time rematching the same trainers over and over again. It may be fun to some but I find it boring.

Although gen 2 was my first and gen 3 my favorite, I still think gen 4 is best in terms of improvement, content and the available Pokemon even though it had a rocky start.

If you haven't decided yet I would go with Platinum first. I love it but a bit harder to play I you played another game right before it due to the speed of the game.
