    The lack of a Pokémon Z was what really confined the gen 6 games in this area of mediocrity. Imagine Diamond and Pearl without Platinum, or Ruby and Sapphire without Emerald.
    Kalos truly had amazing potential as a region.

    • @AndroidHarris
      @AndroidHarris 5 лет назад +33

      Yeah I agree but I never got platinum and DP were still great games. I think the main reason they didn't make a Z was because they knew it wasn't good so why fix it.

    • @Jayjay_07
      @Jayjay_07 4 года назад +60

      We're already two generations after this and I am still sad and upset about that. I wanted this freaking Z and I loved the Kalos region!

    • @MrSupersonic2012
      @MrSupersonic2012 4 года назад +60

      Them not making Z was a huge mistake. I agree that Plat and Emerald were much better and refined editions of their gens. But even without them DP and SR were strong enough to stand on their own. XY was not. Even if they couldn't fix everything they could have done more and also made more money. A missed opportunity.
      Also going to gen 7 with the ultra games. To me those felt like cash grabs. Not enough new/changed content to justify TWO "definitive" games.

    • @AndroidHarris
      @AndroidHarris 4 года назад +15

      @@MrSupersonic2012 I agree, Z shouldve been made to fix those things that were wrong with XY.
      The Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon games were completely misleading. They made it seem like it was going to be like B2W2 in which the entire game would be different. They made two different versions similarly to B2W2 and the legendaries on the cover were fusions exactly like B2W2. Also they haven't made a 3rd version of a Pokemon game in about 10 years making me think that trend died.
      Even if we put the misleading thing aside. This definitive set of games felt worse in some ways compared to the original. The story was worse (Lusamine and Nihilego was way more interesting) and they removed the whole looker ultra beast missions. I actually prefer fighting the mysterious necrozma in ten carrot hill than what they did in USUM. Necrozma was overly done with gimmicks it ruined what I liked about it from the first set of games. Also necrozma having a catch rate of a caterpie should never be the case even if you fought it as a boss battle before. Catching the legendary should always be the final battle. That's my opinion anyway.

    Gen 6 getting a low grade?! *WOW I AM SHOCKED!!!*
    People know the negatives and the disappointments. I commented them several times, this vid mentioned them, and probably lots of comments are also listing them here. It's my second least favorite gen. However, I still like the games. XY is very far away from my fav Pokemon games, there are so many things it just scrapped the surface and would have love to see them expanded, but the thing I appreaciate the most is the huge Newbie Boom it brought. Many players began here, more people to battle and trade with, so in the social aspect this game was a success.
    I like ORAS the most, love what it brought to the Hoenn mytology and how it expanded the characters and the world. Dex Nav is sincerely, one of my fav features ever introduced: addictive to hunt for Pokemon, as well as giving the player an alternative to random encounters. Soaring was awesome, exploring Hoenn from above and visiting new areas. And I don't have a problem with no Frontier, what bothers me was the reasoning behind it...

    • @MrOfflineAlways
      @MrOfflineAlways 5 лет назад +4

      Bruno Linares I am going to be completely honest, that newbie boom you mentioned, I was part of it since my “first” Pokémon game was Pokémon Black running on an R4, and due to the R4’s problem with “breaking” when you buy them, I couldn’t finish Black and X was my first time finishing the game all the way. I was truly upset that it was mainly easy. I played Pokémon Black when I was 10 and it was so/so hard. When I went to X when I was 15, I though it was much easier since I could have figure out things better, but the game was much easier in general and I saw how much easy it was when I bought a copy of Pokémon Black, and a legit copy this time, and played it. The fact that Game Freak thinks kids are “not good at handling difficult games” is absolute nonsense. There is literally kids that are amazing at harder video games and the fact that Game Freak doesn’t see that is just sad. Also, I really want to get into competitive Pokémon battling, but as I got older, I have never got the grasp of it due to time.

    • @brunolinares604
      @brunolinares604 5 лет назад +3

      @@MrOfflineAlways One of the reasons I think XY was made to be an entry for newer players was its lower difficulty. And it must have worked, that game sold inmensely well and I regularly hear comments like: wow I remember XY, my first Pokemon game (I began with Pokemon Gold).
      I do agree with the difficulty being poorly implemented. Sweet lord, even turning off the exp share and ignoring the other OP toys the game brings you, it's still a pretty easy experience with how bad the npc teams are designed...

    • @brunolinares604
      @brunolinares604 5 лет назад +2

      Forgot to mention, "an entry with lower difficulty for newer players". Pokemon (despite being my fav franchise) is already an entry for RPGS in general, and so all games are easy. So an even easier entry just sounded like a bad idea...

      Gen 6 was a huge disappointment, I used to love this game as a kid, but after replaying through it and slowly going through kalos and button mashing my way through an unbearable amount of dialogue from the worst “Rivals” I now hate the kalos region. But I can say that the new games after are even better, and I see the franchise making a huge comeback not only with the new dlc (which I think is an interesting turn of events and I can’t wait) but also with the diamond and pearl remakes that will probably come out next year (it makes sense because 15th anniversary). So although Pokémon has changed radically from these two games, I can see the franchise skyrocket high again. This franchise will always be something special no matter what happens.

      Seeing so much hate for gen 6 brings tears to my eyes 😭
      Tears of joy! I can’t even get started on how these games absolutely ruined Pokémon for me. When I bought them I was so excited and then I played for a few hours and something just seemed off. The models didn’t look too good, the fact that I was just getting all these free Pokémon, those stupid bland “rivals,” I didn’t even get to the second gym and I knew something was wrong. I put the game down for a couple weeks, went back to my heartgold, black, pearl and realized how much better and how much more heart those games felt. To this day I haven’t finished the game and have zero intention, but I’ve clocked hundreds of hours on my gen 4 and gen 5 games to this day. These games truly deserve hate because of how trash they really are !!

    I think the Team Flare being Team Rocket and Viridian Forest map thing was more time constraint rather than fan service.... they just got into the 3D realm and probably took a lot of the time on that, so they just took a cookie cutter approach and just crashed in stuff similar to Kanto.... cause Kanto is literally the most bare bones one, so they could just copy paste it without much effort and it'd work.
    Think about it. Can they do such a thing with any other generation other than Gen 1???
    Heck, they might not even have been thinking of it as Gen 1 fan service, just throwing in some random map part and putting the bare minimum of a "plot" of trying to steal the most obvious things (Master Ball and Fossils).
    Rather than being a copy of Team Rocket, I think it just shows how bare bones Team Rocket was....
    ______________
    Now, the Starters being given might have been fan service, with the 2 Charizards being because so many people wanted a Charizard to be a Dragon. But we also got Lucario as well.
    I think a lot of the so called fan service was just cut corners rather than being intended as fan service. I mean, think about it. Would most people even notice if the map was recycled?
    Don't try to pass off laziness as being fan service.
    Only Gen 7 was as chock full of fan service as people claim and that was more because of the time it came out, the fact that it was time for a Gen 1 remake and they wanted to know how people would view regional variants.
    Cause regional variants could have easily gone 2 way (beloved for breathing new life into old Pokemon and expanding the lore, or laziness in designing new Pokemon; plus, Kanto needed more Ice, Steel and Ghost and Dragon types).

    The Inverse Battle feature is an underused one. It’s a fascinating and fun one, giving a new angle to battling while being simple to grasp unlike Triple or Rotation battles and making you think while you have to deal with muscle memory in regards to type match ups. Yet it only shows up one time, in a single house on one route late in the main campaign and only accessible once a day. It’d have been a lot of fun to implement this for gym and Elite Four battles, giving these rebattles more difficulty or at least encouraging you to use different teams. It doesn’t hurt that visually it’s still a one on one battle so it doesn’t tax the 3DS’s system like triple or rotation battles would have, and could have carried into Sun and Moon. Given the context the type matchup reversal is implemented with, it could have been applied through use of an in game item that activates inverse mode while in the area you’re in.

    Gen 6 would've been fantastic if GF did these 3 things:
    Added a Pokemon Z: Would've gave us so many answers to the questions we have, along with story developments for Lysandre and so forth. Plus, we probably would've had more Mega Pokemon, perhaps even the 3 Kalos Starters having a Mega Form?
    Added the Battle Frontier in ORAS: I mean, come on... they literally just needed to add that one thing and I think 90% of people would have been satisifed. Hell, throw in a clothing unlockable that would give Brendan & May their Emerald colours instead of the original red one we got.
    Last but not least, adding a Challenge Mode. They literally did it the generation before with B2W2, if they had just changed it to where you could activate the difficulty setting without having to complete the entire game first then it would've been a fantastic addition to an already very easy XY & ORAS.
    I feel like GF really let the people down in this generation. There was just so many high hopes, and we got the absolute bare minimum. Not even an apology or explanation as to why there wasn't a Pokemon Z, they just barely touched the surface of this generation and quickly moved onto Gen 7. They better do X&Y justice when they finally get around to remaking it.

    *LONG POST WARNING!*
    Ah, Gen 6. The Sonic '06 of Pokémon. I hate this generation for a multitude of reasons such as the cardboard cutout rivals, stupid villains, dreadful music, lack of story, lack of cohesion, lack of new Pokémon, lack of GOOD new Pokémon, boring region, boring character designs, and the introduction of everyone's least favorite things: *Battle gimmicks and "Gen 1 Pandering"* . The biggest reason I hate it is because of the potential that was squandered due to it clearly being rushed. There are a lot of ideas that, with a little bit of effort and time, could actually work like AZ's story, Mega Evolution, and even the hated friend entourage. While it was designed to be the main series' jump to 3D, XY never accomplished anything outside of that and being a box of ideas that Gen 7's Ride Pokémon came out from. There was no third version or sequel or anything to pick up the slack that was XY. Heck, the "supposed" 3rd version mascot Zygarde had its story in the infamous Pokémon XY&Z anime and it's obtainable forms were shoehorned into SM. Then there was Eternal Flower Floette, which was never released and perfectly sums up XY's lacking in everything and what could have been.
    There was also ORAS, a botched up remake of Ruby & Sapphire that did not live up to expectations, especially with the Battle Frontier exclusion. I don't hate it as much as XY(since I've never played RSE), but it was very lacking. Barely anything noteworthy to do, with degraded and boring music and it was all around not a good remake. It's quite shameful that this was my introduction to Hoenn.
    After replaying Y recently, I found that the only good things Gen 6 had were the PSS, which made it easier to trade and battle with others (with VOICE CHAT for some reason) and the fact that it brought the community together during 2013-2016. Other than that, it's the most hated generation next to Gen 8, which isn't even out yet and features a region based on a European country. Gen 6 and Kalos will sadly be remembered as the games that *"ruined"* Pokémon, and no potential remake or fangame can change that fact. I'm hoping Sword and Shield will not end up being XY 2.0.
    Except benches, I thought those were cool.

    Gen 6 would have really benefitted from an expansion. The Kalos region, Pokémon and soundtrack are amazing but it is all wasted on the most shallow and mindless Pokémon game I have played. ORAS fair a bit better but they are still way too easy compared to the originals and dumbed down in terms of progression. Still the expanded characters, soaring and dex nav do help alleviate the games a bit.
    I also do not like Mega Evolution in terms of execution. To many Pokémon received Mega's when they didn't need them, breaking already powerful Pokémon. They just make the games even more unbalanced. Its also a major problem that the player mostly fights trainers without Mega Evolution. I sets the match way to much in your favour and both Gen 6 games suffer from this problem. Mega Evolution had potential to be great but in execution I think its one of the worst mechanics ever introduced to Pokémon.

      I agree with most of your points, but I completely disagree with the "Pokémon who didn't need a mega" bit. The only broken Pokémon who received a mega was blaziken (for fanservice reasons); other strong Pokémon who had the same treatment were garchomp and tyranitar, but their megas were never relevant (M-Garchomp was in fact worse than regular Garchomp). Every other Pokémon with a mega needed that mega to compete.

    Honestly, Gen 6 felt incomplete, that's it. You can see the skeleton of what was supposed to be, but maybe they couldn't finish it due to THEM LIMITING THEMSELVES TO ONLY A FEW YEARS TO DEVELOP A GAME. Seriously, Diancie was clearly supposed to have a event to herself with that mysterious glass room but they changed that to a mega spot. The power plant was supposed to be a place but they scrapped that too. They shoe horned Hoopa into ORAS for some reason. Volcanion did whatever. There were hints about things to come everywhere, like the new lady saying she was going to find a pokemon, or the rail network going nowhere. Everything in gen 6 felt like they scrapped the game and saved it for later installments. Gen 6 was their "baby's first attempt" so they played it too safe. I mean it took until ORAS for our characters to be able to move in a circle. Just imagine what Kalos would've looked and feel like if they used the sun and moon engine to create all the awesome views in Pokemon X and Y. I'm really hoping for a proper remake in 2025 to fix my personal favorite gen. Just the feeling of going through Kalos is unlike any other from any pokemon game.

      Z- Reggie it’s a fun adventure full of charm, without the expectation, the preconceived idea about what should be in a Pokémon game (like post game content and a better story) I imagine most people would have loved these games
      Those expectations have caused us to create a bar....a line....that if a game does not meet this bar then it is bad
      It’s a narrow minded way of looking at things, we lose sight and appreciation of everything a game has to offer because we are so preoccupied with what it does not...
      It’s like going to Disney land and having your favourite ride closed down....there is still so much to enjoy about Disney land however to some people they don’t have the ability to appreciate everything else or anything else and now Disney land sucks because space mountain is closed down
      Plenty to appreciate in most things we just have to choose for ourselves wether we want to focus on being happy or focus on being negative
      We have far more power in the control of wether or not we enjoy a game than we realize
      It takes an internal change of character to go from focusing on he negative to focusing on the positive (not artificially in your mind I mean ACTUAL appreciation...tangible enjoyment) You can eat a good meal with a great dessert at a restaurant....but the next time you go there you order the same meal and it’s good but then you find out they don’t have the dessert anymore and so you’re disappointed and dissatisfied ....the experience is now “bad” for you even though for another person who didn’t care if there was dessert or not....they would think the meal was really good! They enjoy and appreciate the food they got instead of focusing on something they didn’t get
      And it just takes a change in a person’s heart and mind from negative to positive, apparently it’s a completely foreign concept and action to people...they don’t know how to let go of the negative and enjoy what they can for the sake of their own happiness
      When I see Avengers Endgame....do I let the fact that Tony Stark just casually solves time travel one evening? Or the weird science behind all the time travel stuff? No. Why would I purposefully make my experience of something worse?
      Well a lot of people do this....but it’s not purposefully....the are not setting their intentions or controlling their emotions proactively before hand....
      I used to be like this....and so I very much disliked Gen 5 and Gen 6 when they first came out....:I was negative and complained and didn’t get enjoyment out of the game....but after some personal work and revelations I understood the state of spirit and mind I had when I was a child....that I would pretty much enjoy anything you threw at me....give me a ball and I could spend hours of fun....give me a new Pokémon game and I don’t care what it is I’m going on a fun adventure!
      And so I revisited Gen 5 and Gen 6 back in 2016 and had a completely different experience with the games when I just opened my heart and mind, setting my emotional and mental intention to enjoy the games regardless of what I thought I “knew” before .....regardless of my previous thoughts and opinions
      If I was never open to changing myself I would have never grown to love these games and I would be missing out on a lovely addition to my life.
      I couldve stuck with the opinion that I hated those games and the Pokémon sucked now and it as too linear etc....and most people stick to their previous mindsets and opinions for life. Never changing or growing.
      It was only until I changed myself, was I capable of appreciating these games and all the things they have to offer ....
      The things that I had previously been BLIND to... if you understand me
      At the time if you were to tell me those games were good I would’ve argued until I was blue.....nothing would change my mind.....but after being able to see a bigger picture .....and the other side of my own personal growth I now have more knowledge, understanding and perspective than I did back then
      And so I know what it’s like to be where you are now and I know trying to change your opinion isn’t going to work so I’m talking to you because I want to let you know I used to be like you, until I changed my own inner workings and now I would never go back....because after seeing good where you never saw it before....why would you ever want to erase that?
      If you played X and Y as a child how would you have felt about it then...is a good way to reorient yourself
      And if you can’t or don’t want to, that’s fine, but if you’ve never been to the other side you can’t really tell someone that there isn’t another side

      Yeah I get what you mean, the only thing is I loved Gen 6 as a kid and as I’ve gotten older I just didn’t like it as much anymore. I even replayed it recently trying to get that feel I had when I was a kid but I just couldn’t even looking past it’s flaws didn’t help me. I don’t hate Gen 6 but I can’t say I love it either. My standards for a good Pokémon game are basic it needs to have a good story, interesting Pokémon( well interesting to me at least), and a rival I can really hate and enjoy beating. In my opinion XY didn’t do that for me, also I’m indifferent when it comes to ORAS they were just there no hate no love. XY were decent games Imo, my love for the games when I was 11 compared to now has just fade a bit. My favorite Pokémon is Black and Gen 5 gets tons of hate I just have a bias towards it. I do apologize if I sound like an ignorant child I really just made that comment to see what would happen. Also thank you my eyes were opened a bit I will try loving Pokémon games more, and not judge them based on what I hear about them or things youtubers point out.

    I don’t think XY is as much flawed as it is undercooked. What is there is phenomenal, to the point it is one of my favorite Pokémon games. But it’s missing a lot of stuff present in Gen 5, likely due to the time crunch of going 3D. It reminds me a lot of Diamond and Pearl. It never got its Platinum. I really wish that rather than getting a semi-rushed Sun and Moon (resulting in a truncated Gen 6) for the 20th anniversary, we got Pokémon Z either before or after ORAS.

  • @Borchert97

    Gen 6 felt like an oddly-incomplete generation which is odd because no generation really felt that way up to that point. The lack of any Zygarde story and good post-game in XY, combined with the lack of and the teaser of the Battle Frontier "coming soon" in ORAS really felt like it warranted a Z Version to tie them all together. Z could've involved the actual Complete Zygarde story, similar to the anime, and also had you visit the Hoenn Battle Frontier in the post-game, but instead we got nothing in 2015 and got SM in 2016 which just sort of shoehorned in Zygarde's forms. This gen fell short for me because I spent most of 2014 and 2015 hoping for some sort of Z announcement, and it never came. I enjoyed both XY and ORAS individually, but not to the extent I would say I enjoyed games like Emerald, Platinum, or HGSS.

    Unpopular opinion: XY is one of my favorite pokemon games (and I really enjoyed the plot). And I'm having a tough time trying to figure out why, but I think it's because I really like the 3D graphics, battle mason, mega evolutions, and not having a stupid rotom dex. I think the rotom dex map always on ruins SM because it ruins the surprise of exploring and finding new places. Sure the game was too easy, but I guess I just got used to it (and didn't play B2W2).

    Hands down the weakest generation. Sure, the gen introduced some cool concepts (that were sadly removed in gen 7 so eh) but with it being the weakest mainline games aside from gen 1, soulless 3D models, cutting content, and no third version (seriously everyone and their grandmother thought Pokemon Z was coming November 2015) so that just makes it worse. And the cherry on top is the absolute murder of mythical. Easily the worst thing they've ever done to a group of Pokemon. They used to be involved in the world and have such rich lore added to them but now they're just like candy handed to you. Such a fall from grace. And no battle frontier ORAS (but seriously too challenging for new kids??? Kids aren't stupid Masuda.) was ok but other than that the only thing saving this gen is the new Pokemon designs, the anime, a new MD game, and Kalos looks pretty. That's it. In conclusion, these games had so much potential but sadly these games made me the most disappointed in Pokemon since the huge focus on Mobile games. Gen 5 kicks this Gens ass in my opinion. 1/10

      Jan Plix I have to disagree with Gen 6 pokemon designs. Most of the Kalos pokemon are forgettable and just look boring. I like Greninja, the fossil pokemon, Hawlucha, the Honedge line, Sylveon, Clawitzer, Xerneas, all the megas, Phantump, and Klefki. Everything else sucks. Delphox is the most boring final evolution I've seen for a starter, Zygarde is a pokemon that just kind of...exists, and you cannot tell me that there is a single person on Earth that likes Binacle.

      I want all of the Gym Leaders and Elite 4 to have a Mega Evolution. Even Viola, been the first Gym Leader, could have a Mega Beedrill since you can get Beedrill at level 10.
      Diantha was done dirty. Not only was she completely wasted in the main story but the creators didn't bother to make her a real challenge as a Champion. On paper, her team's pretty good. In practice, they fucked it up because neither Gardevoir nor Aurorus know Hyper Voice, which takes advantage of Pixilate and Refrigerate respectively, and Tyrantrum had Head Smash despite not having Rock Head. Also, Goodra rightfully belonged to Drasna. Give Diantha Blissey with Seismic Toss, Counter and Toxic for a stronger defensive core while Gourgiest handles physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp. Save Goodra for rematches where she replaces Tyrantrum and Aurorus with Goodra and Eelektross respectively. Then we'd have real Champion material.

    So what I need to know is that Pokemon is one of the most profitable franchises of games/anime/etc. and Gamefreak is not putting doing their best creating new content/new games? We've all seen this before guys. Star Wars for instance is just a mirror of its past movies. Super Mario Bros. new games are just 3d versions of the old characters. There's a bunch more that I coincidently forgot ;-; but the main thing is that the best stories are from games/books/movies that take what has already been made and *Improve* it. Gamefreak hasn't improved since when? Maybe gamefreak doesn't need to handle this franchise anymore...

    I think XY were perfect starts to the post-sprite era, felt like an adventure and the bottom screen social/amie/super training were the best they’ve been as well as trainer customisation.
    I think from there it was a steep decline ending with SUMO, over 10 friends in their mid 20s bought 3ds/2ds to get back into Pokémon after Pokémon go and 9 of them didn’t make it past the first gym with how hand holdy sumo was, the third game on a console 20 years deep into a franchise and I treats you like you can barely breathe by yourself.
    Lacking a post game and being generally too easy are also complaints but as the start of the generation I’m fine with a lot of that
