Spot on fix. Excellent explanation. I've just bought a new harness for £49.86 from Volvo in th UK and I'm going to use this video to fit it. I repaired mine 6 months ago and used insulation tape although, the wires just broke again at a different point.
I am going to order myself a new harness today. I initially thought it could be a fuse, until I googled the issue on RUclips. I am going to repair it once it comes in.
We just bought a 2012 volvo s60 t5. We couldn't get the trunk release to work. We had to use the key in the fob to manually open. Then we figured it out. The glove compartment was locked. Locking the glove compartment will lock the trunk release...valet setting.

mine has no safety lever to open the trunk from inside..any solution
My 2010 Volvo S80 is having this issue. Do you know if the wiring harness replacement is the same method as this S40?

I didn't- I just pulled it down to expose the damaged wires.
