I appreciate videos like this. I do own an XC90 like this one, and I had the same issue with the handle. The pivot rod was not almost rusted away like yours, but the handle was quite stiff to move. Instead of replacing it, I grabbed a can of penetrating fluid and went to work on the pivot points, working it back and forth, giving it lots of spray. It finally freed up in a few minutes. Now I spray it down every time I service the vehicle just like you would normally do door hinges, hood hinges, latches, etc. Its just one of those things that need to be done regularly. Regular maintenance is a cost saver. Stuff like this requires minimal effort, but with lasting results.

Has anyone tried to remove the rusty pin and clean and re-fit/ Or fit new pin, instead of buying a whole new unit?
What if I have my latch stuck close that cant be opened from the inside or out. I replaced the rod, but it did not fix it.
This is my question too. Is there a manual release somewhere in order to open the boot first? Even the button on my key won't do it.
Please ask your video editor to stop using that moaning "music" every time tool details are shown on screen... Otherwise a great video
