I am so new to this hobby, just built my first drone and got my goggles integra, I wasnt getting any OSD elements from beta flight until I fillowed this guide, thanks very much.
Thanks so much.. I asked someone else a few weeks ago why my cross hairs on my Pavo Pico were off to the right on my OSD. They told me to make sure the OSD was on HD. Which it was in Betaflight. They didn’t tell tell me to go into my goggles and change the settings in my goggles. Love the way you explain FPV.
You're a life saver Joshua (again)! My OSD elements were offset on my latest (first O3) build so I was wracking my brain trying to figure out the root cause. I was actually searching for the correct O3 canvas width/height settings to use in my CLI when I stumbled across your video. I had copied all of my OSD settings from my last BF4.4 Vista build so that explains why I had the wrong BF canvas settings. Thanks for explaining the changes for O3 .... including the change from 'normal' to 'HD' canvas mode that I need to make in my goggles. All working correctly now. Thx again ... I learned something today 👍
FYI: if you update the v2 goggles with the newest firmware to enable the HD canvas mode and have an avata that you haven’t updated with the RID firmware you will get an error that says incompatible goggles firmware but the Avata will still fly just fine. You can clear the error in the Status menu. I updated my v2s last Saturday and set up the HD OSD in bf4.4, chose the DJI HD preset, and didn’t have to do anything in the CLI. It works fantastic. I flew four packs with the O3 air unit and two batteries with the Avata with zero issues. I’m assuming the preset took care of the CLI stuff JB did because I sure as hell didn’t do any of that and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the vid, JB.
In case anyone gets the warning message “Incompatible goggles, air unit and camera” which happens if you swap just the camera or just the vtx (they come calibrated together from the factory..) you will need to plug it in to Dji assistant 2-Consumer Drone version, and calibrate them. In this case you have to connect to power. Then after you plug in power, a pop up will automatically ask you if you would like to calibrate the camera, and you choose yes. Only takes a few seconds, and it’s all good. I went through this after shearing the m1.6 screws on one of my o3’s, and swapping it out.. just something to keep in mind..
@@SikhFPV Perhaps if doing so from the beginning, but the screws hold the two halves from falling apart as well. Using VHB would only be securing the bottom metal cover. You could argue that zip ties would solve that issue, but that was my first o3 build. No idea what the heat was going to be like. Easier to just swap it out and order screws and replace. Rather than gambling on ruining a brand new $170 vtx.

Thank you so so much! This helped me solving my complete problem with O3 and learning a lot about it in a few minutes! I've been searching for the fitting files to load from local space, but found no presets in the internet for DJI O3. -.-
This helped me today. I had everything working on goggles v2, but just today DJI I got access to a beta firmware version of the goggles 3 that fix the black screen bug. So after upgrading all my firmware, I got my 03 air unit to bind to the goggles 3. No problems there. But the OSD was messed up! My voltage reading where gone. The fix, switch canvas mode from normal to HD. Thanks Joshua! The reason I did not know this is because somebody else setup 03 and the goggles v2 for me so I did not know about the canvas option in the goggles. Question: I assume that OSD is just like ascii text send allong with the video signal that the goggles then render with a font? When you have osd on analog is that the FC mixing a video layer with text already rendered into the video signal? I assume so becase when flying analog and getting break up, my osd also breaks up.
Can these different onscreen displays be edited using Betaflight with a DJI Avata 2? I'd love to be able to edit what is shown and where if possible or does DJI lock all that down on their own drones? Many thanks.

Yes but you still usually have to set osd_displayport_device manually because DJI didn't implement the full vtx-FC communication protocol. Currently, only WTFOS is 100% sure that you don't have to manually put that CLI line in.

Can I use different dji cameras with the air unit 3 like the wasp or pheonix or nebula with the unit 2 and if I am able to is it possible to switch between the cameras quickly while I'm already our flying if I have both the original 03 camera and another one? Also which current dji cam is best for low light but still have good picture/resolution?

So I've done all this it works fine but with HD canvas on I get HORRENDOUS range like 25ft. It is going out of low power mode. It asks works great if I have HD canvas mode off and msp off in ports tab. Switch either of those on and I get no usable range.
I started using Fettec FC with kiss firmware, and I am only can see the voltages, I am wondering if this is DJI lacking for support or is kiss problem, I might not even try kiss anymore.

Hey mate, I havent heard you talk about this but i know you know it all about fpv :) can you only have one additional working msp selected in the PORTS tab?(apart from usb) i have the one you must keep on which is USB then i have the uart my 03 air unit goes through and osd works fine but when i select msp for the uart my onboard FC bluetooth goes through my osd stops working and BT also doesnt work unless i turn off uart for 03 air unit :( how annoying, I jus wanna tune my quad without my computer at the park with osd.
This should help make it easier for people to set up o3 in betaflight. definitely annoying when I tried to enable HD as an early adopter in BF 4.3 with o3 and it didn't work. dunno if I really want it smaller now I'm used to it and it didn't look that bad lol. not that big of a deal for me.

@@kylespencer4037 hey bro. I found the issue alr. Are you using o3 air unit that connects directly to your fc with a connector? What radio are you using?
@@kylespencer4037 ok your gps might be connected to the same uart as your sbus wire from the dji o3. Just try a different uart for your gps. For me im using elrs so i just had to take that yellow wire out.
I stuck one of my caddux vtx and camera units on top of a plane but it's stuck in low power mode. is there a way to set it to high power without being connected to a flight controller?
@@JoshuaBardwell can you run 700W VTX from a lipo balance plug? it seems to wrok I'm using the matek buck set at 8V. Thats another question, should you set the buck at 8 if the VTX can take higher voltage? I think it's better to let the buck take the heat. then the other thing is should you tap the balance at the full voltage or at a voltage just above what the buck is set at, won't that discharge the battery unevenly maybe?
700 mW vTX from a balance plug is no problem. Running the regulator at higher power will lower the amps pulled, but decrease the ability of the regulator to filter power. It's a bit of a tossup. Definitely tap the balance plug at full voltage.
hello, can you help me?? I have the goggles v2 and air unit o3. My goggles only shows channel 1, is it normal?? would not have to select the channel for several pilots to fly together??

That is the ham unlock procedure. The txt file you put on the goggles. The goggle doesn't usually lose the ham unlock after firmware update but maybe it's worth a try.

Help! DJI 03 canvas mode does not work. I've pretty much exhausted all ideas to get the OSD working on my goggles 2. No OSD information is displayed at all. Hey JB, There are 2 things i am having trouble figuring out to make this work on my 03 air unit and Goggles v2. Under ports>peripherals, VTX (MSP + Display port) is not an option for me. How can i enable this? Under OSD, Video format does not show up so i can select the HD option. I set my Goggles to HD and it works, but i am unable to get betaflight to recognize it so i can adjust my OSD elements. please help
@@alefur9461 Yes I found the solution. It is because our FC on our Drone needs to be updated to Firmware 4.4.0 or above. My Iflight BNF Nazgul F6 V2 Came preset with 4.3 version. We need to update it to 4.4 or higher to be able to have access to these features
@@JoshuaBardwellv2s are rotted with Wtfos installed. I want a 03 to get sound in my flight videos. Also can I still use Wtfos to add OSD to my 03 flights like my vista lite
O3 does not record sound sorry to say. V2 goggle can be used with O3. To do this, you switch the goggles into "O3 mode" in the menu. When v2 is used with O3, WTFOS does not apply. It is not relevant. It doesn't exist. When the goggles are in O3 mode, the entire concept of rooting and WTFOS doesn't exist. It has no effect at all. If you want to record your OSD, either use a Vista with V2 and WTFOS, or use Goggles 2, which can record OSD internally.

I already update the firmware to the newest but the canvas option for change to HD its still not appears. There is only brightness and scaling option

You didn't typo the osd_canvas_height, you just told us to set height 53 and width 20 and these are the wrong way round.

I cannot get this thing to show on my goggles. V2 I have the O3 air unit with the tmotor F7 flight stack. I updated both goggles and vtx.

Goggles are on HD Mode and the CLI commands were imputed.
HD video format is on ok beta flight and my uart port is set to the VTX display

I downloaded a new Betaflight Configurator on my Mac, version 10.9.0, but the Firmware its 4.3.1 instead of 4.4? What I missed?
The version of the configurator on your computer is separate from thr firmware on your fc. You have to uidated the FC firmware separately.
What about inav?
As long as there is no Font with Fixedwing-Symbols, it still won’t be nice I guess…

Caddx vTX, yes. Turn off temperature protection.

You have to do the ham unlock procedure to unlock the other channels.

That is the ham unlock procedure. The txt file you put on the goggles. The goggle doesn't usually lose the ham unlock after firmware update but maybe it's worth a try.

Help! DJI 03 canvas mode does not work. I've pretty much exhausted all ideas to get the OSD working on my goggles 2. No OSD information is displayed at all. The full camera image is displayed with the base DJI information:

You need to be in 4.4 or newer in the FC. 10.10 is the configurator version.

You can do that, but the O3 will continue to function. What would be the point?

No. The Avata doesn't have an OSD like this.

There are 2 things i am having trouble figuring out to make this work on my 03 air unit and Goggles v2.
Under ports>peripherals, VTX (MSP + Display port) is not an option for me. How can i enable this?
Under OSD, Video format does not show up so i can select the HD option.
I set my Goggles to HD and it works, but i am unable to get betaflight to recognize it so i can adjust my OSD elements. please help
Update Betaflight software on your computer to be able to see these new options.

@@alefur9461 Yes I found the solution. It is because our FC on our Drone needs to be updated to Firmware 4.4.0 or above. My Iflight BNF Nazgul F6 V2 Came preset with 4.3 version. We need to update it to 4.4 or higher to be able to have access to these features

O3 does not record sound sorry to say.
V2 goggle can be used with O3. To do this, you switch the goggles into "O3 mode" in the menu.
When v2 is used with O3, WTFOS does not apply. It is not relevant. It doesn't exist. When the goggles are in O3 mode, the entire concept of rooting and WTFOS doesn't exist. It has no effect at all.
If you want to record your OSD, either use a Vista with V2 and WTFOS, or use Goggles 2, which can record OSD internally.
