This song is bangin as hell, It's like them saying they know they've made some bad choices but in the end they just want to keep on track doing what they love. Same reason they were the band that i religiously listened to throughout highschool
wait omg i did not think id see you here hi zac i love your videos!!! ive been watching you for a past few years now its so cool we share an interest in weezer lmao
The whole song is a reference to the blue album. Back to the shack is referencing "In the Garage", he says he made up with his dad which is "Say it Ain't So", etc. It makes it a fun listen from the first time to the 100th time. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that line is why Rivers wrote the song in the first place, which is why this video for a song about getting back to the fundamentals is centered around that original context.
It’s very rare when a band actually apologized for making a string of bad albums through their music, this must have made a lot of Weezer fans happy to see that Weezer is still in there
Fun fact: The text at 0:11 (Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate) is italian for "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here." It's a reference to the inferno.
Cuomo explained that the lyrics refer to how he feels bad for the direction the band has taken on some of their past material. He admitted that sometimes he "went over the edge". He explained his desire to create "a classic alt-rock record." The word "shack" serves as a reference to Amherst house, a home where some of the original Weezer members had lived and recorded a few of their demos. Lyrically, "Back to the Shack" deals with the theme of nostalgia and a wish to return "to [the band's] 1994 roots". Dave Lewis stated the song serves as a thematic continuation of two previous Weezer songs, "In the Garage" and "Memories". It also deals with Weezer's relationship with their fans and serves as "basically an apology for the past two decades and a promise to embrace their nerdy roots."[ The song's opening lines-"I'm sorry guys, I didn't realize that I needed you so much"-in particular reinforce this theme.
After listening to the whole album, I gotta say that it's their best record since Pinkerton. Yes, even better than Maladroit and Green. I don't think the album has a single bad track. Good job, Weezer. Will be picking up the vinyl for sure.
***** they were alright. theyre only considered shit because its weezer. if a new band came out with green or maladroit as their debut album theyd get loads of attention
Verse 1] Sorry guys, I didn't realize that I needed you so much I thought I'd get a new audience, I forgot that disco sucks I ended up with nobody and I started feelin' dumb Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Pat should play the drums [Chorus] Take me back, back to the shack Back to the strat with the lightning strap Kick in the door, more hardcore Rockin' out like it's '94 Let's turn up the radio Turn off those stupid singing shows I know where we need to go Back to the shack [Verse 2] I finally settled down with my girl and I made up with my dad Had to go and make a few mistakes so I could find out who I am I'm lettin' all of these feelings out even if it means I fail 'Cause this is what I was meant to do and you can't put that on sale [Chorus] Take me back, back to the shack Back to the strat with the lightning strap Kick in the door, more hardcore Rockin' out like it's '94 Let's turn up the radio Turn off those stupid singing shows I know where we need to go Back to the shack Bridge] We belong in the rock world There is so much left to do If we die in obscurity, oh well At least we raised some hell [Guitar Solo] [Chorus] Take me back, back to the shack Back to the strat with the lightning strap Kick in the door, more hardcore Rockin' out like it's '94 Let's turn up the radio Turn off those stupid singing shows I know where we need to go Back to the shack
For some reason, the first thing I thought of when I saw the song’s title for the first time was, “I wanna go back, to the shack, and I don’t even know how I got off the shack”
i don't understand fans of Weezer hating on this song. They made this song as an apology to their fans for losing their way over the last decade and trying to create a new genre of music and are stating they're going back to the old Weezer that we all knew and loved
A lot of people have been lukewarm in their reception of this album. But, just like Pinkerton, I am confident that this album's reputation will grow as years go by. Who knows, it may end up being revered as highly as Blue/Pinkerton one day.
Its now considered one of their best albums after blue, Pinkerton, and some think white is better I don’t know why I said that as if you’re not in the same year as me
I am unsure if i am correct but still. i find this video/song has a deeper, more awesome meaning. River's solo career really wasn't the most popular thing ever, and he never got close to enough success as his time in Weezer. The time where he gave up his friends because he thought he was better alone. He says " Back to the strat with the lighting strap" because he literally just decided against using his trademark strap. Also, the giant Weezer symbol coming, dusty and unused and buried. That rising into the sky and lighting up was representing the rise of Weezer and being just as good as ever.
Is this some sort of reference to their RUclips invasion in 2010 when they went to Fred and said that they would be the first band to play on the moon?
There's more thought in these songs than we've had in years. I'd say the quality of the melodies and riffs is on part with Green and Maladroit, but the "fine detail" that these songs were given gives them so much more of an OOMPH! They sound great. Rivers might have peaked years and years ago (all the greats do) but he's still capable of making great songs. Makes you wonder how much better the other post 96 albums would have been with a little more effort
So, I was listening to Buddy Holly and thinking, "Man, I miss these guys. I hope they come out with a new album that I can obsess over," and then later that day I was listening to the radio and THIS came on.

Yes Yes Yes!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy the boys are Back In The Shack. I've so missed the Weezer sound & it sounds better than ever now. What an endless amount of art these boys have in them!!! With only one listening to the album I think I'm putting this one way up in their catalogue. Thank you for all of the years of great music boys!!!
Bought the album the other day. I was so pumped when I gave it a full listen and I realized liked every single song. I don't know of any band from 1994 that I grew up with that could pull this off. Very refreshing, it was like oh yea, remember rock n roll??
I had that same feeling when I heard this song on the radio for the first time. I instantly thought weezer, but wasn't sure. Then my mind was like, who else ISNT killing rock and roll?
The Album is a piece of Art. All the songs are the best and so far the Ending of "Foolish Father" is amazing, When all makes sense in the Whole Album, with the " Everything will be alright in the end" Chorus, is Awesome 10/10

Pfft David Gilmour Did.
Rivers cumo is actually kurt cobain in disguise... Picture him blond a little longr hair...
It's because they have money. XD But Rivers does show some age in the back of his head. Sometimes you can see he's missing a lot of hair.
