Brandon isn't actually the one who was writing a lot of the lyrics, especially when they first started out. He's credited so I'm sure he had input, but Ronnie and Dave (the drummer and guitarist) are known as the ones who do most of the writing, Brandon is more on the music side. You can hear the difference in his solo album-- the music is stylistically the same, but the lyrics aren't on the same level.

From someone who has been cheated on, I know this song all to well. "It was only a kiss" yeah... I decided to stick it out, and see were it went. Five years later and the relationship is good. Although the inner stomach sickness is still there. The feeling inside of your mind is always there. It is like a disease that you can never cure. Anyone who has been cheated on, I feel that this song explains perfectly what you feel, and how it torments you.

Solo Salinas That is just what I heard about the song. From just what I read, supposedly the lead singer wrote the song in regards to have fiancee or girlfriend cheating on him, or something to that regard. Not sure how true it is. That is just how I interpret the song now.
Finlay Hannah Yeah it for sure is not an easy road to go down. Especially if you try to keep the relationship together afterward. Luckily for me it has been 5 years from what I know, and to this day I still have those terrible feelings come up anytime something of the nature is brought up in conversation.
