1:26 this is where the skill of reading water really pays off. The river flows in from the right, and bends left leaving an eddy against that log. Perfect coho holding water.
That whole pool is full of coho, but I did get a bunch casting spoons and retrieving along that log and shoreline. But it was snaggy in there, lost two jigs. So couldn't get too close with the jig over there.
Jigs are a ton of fun to fish and super productive. As an angler you are always active, you are fishing by feel, and jigging tends to favour water that others (drift anglers) tend to overlook. I got turned onto jig fishing 5-6 years ago and haven't touched my level wind reel and roe since!
Thank you very much... but you should watch Fishing with Rod's Last two videos. I thought his were much more entertaining with a story line. Mines just a how to and Gear review. But thanks for the compliments, always greatly appreciated. Keeps me editing. Because it is getting more difficult to get motivated.
One of these days when Covid-19 restrictions are just a memory I gotta drive down from Lillooet and try some river salmon fishing! Great video as always😁
I guess you could use a snap, then you just lose one mor thing when you snag. I just usually tie directly. The length of fluoro doesn't really matter. I start with about 6 feet and use it all the way down to about a foot since you lose some every change.
Awesome technique and wicked fish too! I have to get @Rikklesfisher to come to BC with me some time. Ha-HA! We or at least I will watch as many of your videos again to keep learning from your adventures. Take care good Sir!
@RIKKLESFISHER only fishes in Alberta. Uniprovincial fisherman. Dedicated to the cause of poor fishing. Hahaha!!! Yeah he likes river fishing so should come to bc sometime.
@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures Yes Sir, a dedicated Albertan x 2, haha 😊 So much more explore within this grand country, that way we will never want to stop the love for fishing. Hoping to fish some new lakes this season. 😎 Good luck to you and yours as well! 😃

@hectormpagan9296 7 foot rod, but I upsided my rods and I like them better. I have an 8 foot 6 inch and 9 foot 6 inch ugly stik medium action. In the Video it's a 7 foot ugly stik. Shimano Stradic ci4+ 2500 size. 10 or 20 pound power pro braid.
Excellent! I use the same technique for trout with marabou jigs in much smaller sizes - 1/32oz up to 1/8oz... using a rod with an extra fast tip. What is the music starting at 5:08?
Hey, just found your channel. You've got some awesome content! I'm heading up towards Merrit next weekend for some ice fishing with my father. Are there any lakes you'd recommend we check out?
Depends what you want to catch. Check out GoFishBC website and their WHERE TO FISH icon will show you all the stocked waters. So many places to fish. But fishing it fishing and this time of year it can be tough sometimes. Best of luck. Chicken Ranch is one I've posted videos on before that has brook trout.
That's cool you can still fish for coho in November there. The season closes end of October up here :/ Great video, I'll check out those jigs since the paint on mine chips off so easily.
Yeah, they are crazy amazing. Almost hard to believe how well the paint stays on. The creator is an engineer... does his research! Us Docs just know how to fix people and bonk fish, haha! Yeah we can fish all winter here. The Coho and salmon season is open till December 31st. I've heard of guys catching Chrome coho Christmas day and even some in the new year. Retention is open only till Dec 31st though I believe per the regs.
@@TheFishingDoctorsAdventures Wow that's great. Guys here will go fall/winter steelhead fishing. I usually stick to other winter hobbies but may try it out.
I just use my 7 foot, medium action, 6-15 lb line class Ugly Stik Rod. I have 10 to 20 pound braid on the Shimano Stracid Ci4+. I would say most guys use a 7 to 8 foot rod with a fast action. You don't want too soft of a tip section.
Hmm... I'm so new to steelhead, but I will be trying some more this upcoming season. So hard to get such and infrequent catch on camera. Might try with Rod though so we may get a video out on his channel. I offered to help him make one.

What impressed me the most is how you got over to THAT side, must have been one hell of a wade or you did the bush wack from hell! :) Great explanation though!
I thought I landed them pretty easily. Didn't seem too light to me. 7 foot ugly stick with 20 pound braided line and 15 pound to 20 pound fluoro leader. Shimano Ci4+ stradic 2500 reel. Why go overkill if you don't have too? Coho in this system are usually averaging 5 pounds.
