    1/2 drive M12 Stubby is an absolute beast. I rarely ever need to wake up my big pneumatic since it pretty much deals with majority of wheel, brake and under bonnet work I do. Along with the Fuel ratchet they have been one of the best investments I have made in a long time.

      How to Automotive I got an email from Milwaukee about the new stubby impacts with the statement " because size matters new fuel" Wich is true. But then they sell the new 3/8 fuel ratchet and used the same head housing as the 1/2 fuel ratchet. They need to make a version of the fuel ratchet that uses the 1/4 fuel ratchet body and head housing but with a 3/8 drive anvil. The smaller head with the larger size range of 3/8 drive sockets would be great for us technicians.

    I wish they made this stubby in a m18 platform.
    I only run m18 and don’t want to expand into m12 batteries and chargers.
    A stubby m18 in 3/8” and 1/2” would be awesome with the m18 2amp battery
    Small and light

    Great video. One correction. The head isn’t at an angle
    Compared to the other units. The base battery makes it look that way but use a goniometer and measure the angle between the head and handle and compare it to the others. Basically the same angle.

    I have the 3/8 drive and i have abused it to the max (got it for 100 so whatever 😂) without any damage to the anvil. I like it for thinner profile sockets and such. I would love to try the 1/2 inch anvil but I really dont see a giant advantage with it for a light duty impact!

      michaspi Thanks for the thought but I’ve contacted Milwaukee about this issue and they said it’s a protect device built into the tool. Under very light trigger input if the anvil stops moving it momentarily shuts off the tool until the trigger is pulled again. Not really a big deal once you’re used to it but I find it annoying

    Noticed that you have all friction ring anvils instead of detent pin. Can you explain your preference on the anvil?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  5 лет назад +1

      To make the detent anvil they drill A small hole in the side to put the detent in and this makes the Anvil weaker. If you check out the power rating on the high torque you’ll notice that it’s lower for the detent and that so they don’t break the Anvil.

  • @JeffaCubed

    Wanted to chime in. I've tried both the 3/8" M12 (2554-20) & 1/2" M12 (2555-20) stubbies, using fully-charged 4.0Ah & 6.0 Ah batteries, to remove wheel lug-bolts (hand-torqued to ~90 ft-lbs) on my bmw e46. Neither M12 stubby will budge my wheel lug-bolts (hand-torqued to 90 ft-lbs). I'm using impact-rated 3/8" & 1/2" sockets (no adaptors). Either way, I'm starting to wonder if the M12 stubby is simply weaker (nut-busting) than advertised OR it simply takes more unfastening torque to remove wheel lug-bolts than wheel lug-nuts. If you go on the Milwaukee site (& HomeDepot), the response to the M12 stubbies is overwhelming "very" positive, though there are numerous customers who simply can't use the M12 stubbies to remove 85-95 ft-lbs lug-bolts on bmw's. Unfortunately, I'm taking my 1/2" M12 stubby back & getting an M18 mid-torque. Great + informative videos!

    What would you recommend? 1/2 Or 3/8? Is the 1/2 still be practical for under the hood work?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  5 лет назад +1

      arvin mendoza For me I like the 3/8. I have a lot more 3/8 socket and extensions than I do 1/2 and I tend to do more hundred hood type work so that one makes sense for me. They also both have the same power rating so you can use the 3/8 to do just about everything.

    • @kundetjenesten
      @kundetjenesten 4 года назад

      LILDIRT I hear you. I did hope that struts and suspension work would come in so I could film it. I want it to be one of the first to have a video out on the news Stubby. I will be making more videos

    With only 250 ft lbs... Might as well get 3/8... My 1/2 is the high torque big boy

      RAM TRUCKS I think the 3/8 is the best way to go. If you need more than that you can use the mid torque or the high torque.

      Why bother with 3/8? Just keep one set of 1/2" sockets and use both the stubby and mid torque

      Jacob Hladik it just gives you more options. You could get by with out it but it’s nice to have.

      So... Mid torque M18 would be a direct competitor with this, if you wanna stay M18.

      I was thinking now.. high torque M18 1/2" with Stubby M12, 1/2 "... Heavy and light work covered
      .. 1 set of sockets

    I don't get it what u are talking with This loosing the nut really, Just say the impact wrench can't do it with all nuts and it's all. If i have to break all the nuts with ratchet it's its useless
