      I wish there were more videos to highlight these skills. I think a lot of people would be drawn to this type of craft rather than white collar stuff. I know I find the cubical scene soul draining. But we really only promote those types of jobs.

I showed him this video and the one where MaCenna was picking stones and he got excited watching it!! Not all vlogs show the process and he loved this one explaining to me every step 😂

      Watching the man doing the painting and finishes tugs on my heart because my daddy was a third-generation residential painter and specialized in the fine finishes. He left school in the 8th grade and had his own business run continuously from age 35 until he retired at age 70.

    Macenna, thank you so much for getting me through a lot of stages in my life during covid, my dad's passing, getting my architect's license after college, my 2023 abrupt career shift through your vlogs and podcast! I think I resonate and relate so much with you because we share a birthday! Lol idk how that relates but my boyfriend thinks it's because of that!
    I started watching you in 2020 when I thrived in isolation and did my personal renovations, but I binge "listened" to you during my 2023 career crisis. I'm an architect now in the Philippines but I quit my job because I was so miserable working in the government! I was able to save up 2 yrs of money but omg I was so anxious seeing it go down during the time I was figuring out if I wanted this profession or do business-which didn't go well. But, I discovered your podcast in Nov 2023 and your story WAS ALMOST SIMILAR to mine and it gave me hope during the time in between when I took a leap of faith. I am now in a very flexible job in sustainability doing huge impact projects for my country, while it gives me time to focus on my health and being an artist, developing my Filipiniana (Filipino) design style. I literally became happy on purpose by the time I turned 25 because I saw it was possible with what you did with your life.
    I know people say their favorite big artists "save" their lives, but not only you, but the entire community of kind-hearted and creative people you built inspired me so much to save mine.

    • @XOMaCenna
      @XOMaCenna  Месяц назад +118

      wow your comment literally brought me to tears! thank you so much and your are so right we are so similar and have walked such a similar path in like! & we have the same birthday!!! crazy! That makes me so happy that you are doing something that you love and that feeds your sole! you are so brave for taking that leap of faith and betting on yourself! You made my day! thank you so much!

    The attention to detail your tradesmen have poured into this project, is just spectacular to watch. They are truly skilled at their craft. So thankful they’ve been okay with allowing you to film the process and give us a peek behind the scenes. The contractor in the red hat’s pure excitement when the stone backsplash went in perfectly over the oven made me smile. You can tell these men take so much pride in their work and delivering a finished product the homeowners can be beyond thrilled with. Everything is coming along so beautifully. The stone on the wall above the oven was an excellent design choice and the detail of the curve and bevel…perfection!

  • @glendashine9468
    @glendashine9468 Месяц назад +99

    The curve you placed on the backsplash, softens and enhances the look so much. If you had done a straight line, it would have been an injustice to the beautiful curves on your custom designed hood. To have that curve repeated behind the sink gives the look continuity to both sides of the room so that our eyes flow so smoothly from one area to the other. You are right, you were blessed to have that extra stone to give you that upgraded beautifully done work. Your finish gentleman did such an excellent job creating just the right tone on the wood for you. I imagine anyone in your area is fighting to contract the companies that worked with you. My family, my husband and I are all in custom construction. We believe that our job is to create the client’s dream. it is never r the easiest or fasted way to finish a job but so satisfying to see the client light up with joy to have their hopes and dream move from their mind and appear in their home!

These skills takes years to learn and I can see how proud they are that you appreciate their work so much. I also think because you have done a lot of this type of work yourself before, and you can relate to what they're saying, it's almost like they want to go the extra mile to impress you and show just how good they are at what they do. That range hood is a showstopper. When I didn’t think it could get any better, the soft detail on the backsplash blew my mind. So beautiful. But what I love even more is the excitement your craftsman show in their work executing your beautiful vision.

    It was so wonderful to see the interaction between you and the contractors. They are so talented and you can tell they take a lot of pride in their work. When you and the one who stained were talking, it was like you both were talking the same language amongst yourselves. What a breath of fresh air it must have been for him to know what you want and be a good client.

    I think the corbles should be distressed the same color as the hood.
    So its base would be the original color but with hints of the blue. So I suggest sealing them as is then trying the paint and wipe technique.
    (You could also twt out on something else to see if it would work) and this way if you seal them and you don't like it, you can wipe off the paint?

    The Swiss Coffee comment made me LOL!
    You inspired me to purchase and redo a small, historic townhome and I hated every color white that was recommended. The painter came in and said “What about this?” And I fell in love with Swiss Coffee! It truly brightened up my space. Laundry room is in Garden Path (I kept the old Tuscan red floor in there), half bath is wallpapered in Sandberg Rafael Blue which goes great with that Swiss coffee!
    I contemplated a dusty blue for my kitchen but then panicked! 😂

    Being an interior designer myself whenever paint is being sprayed it's always best to go a little darker. When they thin the paint to spray I noticed it can lighten up the colour! I feel like that's what happened here, your sample was darker in colour!
