if you let the vinyl cure on the cup overnight then hit it with heat for 30 seconds and let it cool BEFORE you put the citristrip on it will give you super crisp lines but the vinyl's harder to remove

You just need enough to make sure it’s well covered. Once you achieve that, it doesn’t make a difference. I just don’t like the excess bc more chance to drip and be messy.

What would you say the time for a Stanley tumbler would be?
Hi! I tried one Stanley and it didn't work. Here is my video: ruclips.net/user/shortsUYzNPifOlvU. It's the only tumbler I've failed on. I have read that there are different types of paint on the Stanleys. I had one with matte paint. I hear the smooth paint ones work better. I haven't had the heard to try again yet though.

If I just want to strip the cup without the heat gun (I don’t have one), is it safe to stick it in my oven? Just stripping for now….
Hi! I’m not an expert, but I wouldn’t. The paint fumes can be toxic and I don’t think you would want that near where you cook food. Stripping works well. It just takes longer. Good luck!
Hey just about to do a yeti cup. Just to confirm from the cheat sheet you can still use heat but reduce the heat time to a minute
Hi! Yes, I think it actually looks better with heat. You can do 60 - 90 seconds at around 700 degrees. I’m actually testing a Yeti Rambler right this minute. I have a feeling the regular tumblers might take a little more time than the wine tumbler. So I’m testing that. Check it after 60-90 seconds and you can always go longer. I just wouldn’t go hotter. I’ll post the Yeti video soon.

So funny you asked. I have an Owala. Obsessed with it! I carry it everywhere. I'm so afraid to try this on my baby in case I mess up. Lol! I am building up the courage to do it though. I have seen where people have had success with them. I will let you know when I do.
For some reason I am not getting this to work for me. It is eating through the vinyl and removing the paint almost everywhere I had put the citristrip. The first time I tried it I used Cricut Premium Vinyl. Since that didn't work I then used the Oracal 651, but got the same results. With the Oracal I also applied heat to the vinyl briefly to help adhere it. And both times I let it sit for 30 minutes. Any idea of what I am doing wrong?
The only other factor is that it has been warm here in the California Bay Area. Not heat wave warm but still warm. Could it be that I am leaving it on too long?
I am sorry it's not working well for you. I would've said it was the Cricut Premium Vinyl bc I've heard that doesn't work well. But I've heard the Oracle 651 definitely works. I personally use Teckwrap, but Oracle should be fine. I don't think you are leaving it on too long at 30 minutes. I just left one on today for 2 hours and my vinyl was perfectly fine. Is it eating away at your vinyl or leaking underneath it near the stencil? Also, are you using the exact same Citristrip I used in my video? There is another version that is similar that people don't have as good of results with. Lastly, not that it should matter, but what brand of tumbler are you using? I am sure we can get this figured out.
@@BeesKneesSVG Thank you so much for your reply. On the second attempt with the Oracal 651, I did give it some heat to help seal it and could tell that it was well sealed since i could see the texture of the powder coat in the vinyl. I am doing this on a Hydroflask by the way. When I went to wipe away the citristrip and the vinyl just wiped off with it like it was melted. It is the same citristrip, though the label is a slightly different, it still has the same design elements. Also, not sure when I purchased it.
I've definitely never seen that happen before. My vinyl comes off the same as I put it on after 2 hours even. If the vinyl is wiping off, I would either try new vinyl (maybe try the Teckwrap Matte) or get a new bottle of Citristrip. Seems like something is happening with one of those products. My guess is it might be the Citristrip since it happened to two different types of vinyl and one was Oracle 651.
@@BeesKneesSVG Thanks again for your quick replies. I am suspecting the Citristrip also. I checked the bottle and the manufacturers date says 5/24/11 and it was quite separated when I pulled it out of the cabinet. Needed a lot of shaking. May try it again after I get a new bottle.
I just watched another video shortly before this one with the same process and different tumblers tested and they advised it didn't work on the hydro flask either.

Are you using permanent or removable vinyl for the stencil?
Hi! I always use permanent. You can peel it off no problem when you are done. I think it gives you crisper edges.
DO NOT STRIP THE BOTTOM of the tumbler, like she did in her test area. Most tumblers have a lead based resin bead inside of them, that powder coating helps protect it, in case of a leak.

Hi Debbie! Let’s figure it out for you. Is it the exact same Citristrip I used? I’ve seen people use similar but different brands and it doesn’t work the same. What brand of tumbler did you use? How long did you leave the Citristrip on and did you use heat? Let me know and we will troubleshoot.

Will this method work on cups that I hand paint or spray paint?
Hi! I’ve never tried it personally but I’ve read that it does not work. Everyone recommends the powder coated paint.
Have you done this on an Ozark Trail tumbler? I have this brand but I'm very nervous. The bottom is not painted so I can't test it. 😔

Would regular cricut vinyl work?
I've never tried it. I have read in the past that it can peel up a little when Citristrip is used on it, but other people have successfully used it. So mixed reviews. I highly recommend Teckwrap or Oracle 651.
Do you know of a substitute for Citristrip?
I can't find a supplier here and it's over $150 from US

Hi! My tumbler was purchased black. Citristrip does not work as well on spray paint. All of the tumblers I use are powder coated. I wouldn’t recommend doing it on spray paint from what I’ve read.

I'm not giving up though. I'm going to try one more heat method on it. I think the Stanley's vary. Some have the smooth and shiny finish. I think those work better. I'll let you know if I can get the matte finish to work.

Have you tried the process on a TAL bottle from Wal-Mart?
Hi! I have not yet. I will put that on my list of ones to try so I can add it to my cheat sheet. I have seen people do it successfully with the TAL bottle (in FB Cricut groups). I just cannot give you times and heat temperatures yet. Once I test it, I will follow up. For now, if you want to do it before I get a chance - just make sure you test the bottom first.
Hi! I wanted to follow up and let you know I just did a TAL bottle today. It took me a full 120 minutes (2 hours) using just Citristrip and time. I also tried the heat method and that was 10 minutes Citristrip then 90 seconds of heat at 700F. Worked great! I hope you had luck if you have tried it already.

I tried mine didn't turn out. I tried a monogram. Also didn't know how much the citristrip I was to use. I'm try again. Sorry not sure how to upload a pic
Make sure you have enough Citristrip that it stays wet the entire time. If it dries out wjere it's touching the paint, it stops working.
Instead of Scotch-Brite, I used a #000 Super Fine steel Wool pad
