Why I do Draft Grades Videos:
This is a fun exercise to visit how I believe these players will produce for these teams, what these coaches and players can work on to make these Grades look wrong in a few years, vice versa, as well as what these Drafts might tell us about a certain team’s plans or opinions on existing players on their roster or the types of schemes they are looking to run.
    DRAFT GRADING CRITERIA
    DAYS 1 & 2
    “S” -Certified Steal
    • Need, team/scheme fit check out and the value is better than expected
    “A”
    • Value, need, and team/scheme fit all check out
    “B”
    • Good pick, but one of the following apply
o Player was a slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
o An otherwise “C” graded pick due to value and/or better players being available, but a massive hole at a value position (QB, OT, WR, ED, DT, CB) was addressed in Round 1 with a still good player that wouldn’t have been available for the team later
    “C”
    • Fine pick but two of the following apply
o Player was a slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need with (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
    “D”
    • Pick is in question as three of the following apply
o Player was a Slight reach
o Positional value in question (1st Round Only)
o Team passed on a better player at the position for the team
o Team ignored value at a major need with (1st Round Only)
o Team/Scheme fit is in question
OR Player was a major reach
    “F”
    • A truly inexplicable pick as player was a major reach, AND team passed on a better player at the position for the team, team/scheme fit is in question, or team ignored value at a major need or positional value is in question (1st Round Only)
"-" May be applied if pick required a high trade-up price
    “+” For a reach following a trade-down
    DAY 3
    Certified Steal (Purple)
    • Team stole a player who had a Day 1 or 2 grade who has a legit shot to be an impact player
    Great Pick (Green)
    • Team found above average value and a player with a legit chance to start within the first couple of seasons with the team OR a great role player in a key spot right away (Goal line back, #3 D-Lineman, TE2, dime back, kick returner, etc.)
    Good Pick (Blue)
    • Value lines up and player is in a great scheme or opportunity to find success as a starter or key role player relative to most Day 3 picks
    Solid Pick (White)
    • No notable criticisms of the pick but expectations should be tampered as with any Day 3 Pick
Reach / Will Regret Not Taking… / Not a fan (Orange)
    • (Round 4 & 5 only) Player was a notable reach and/or notably better players would have been better picks, but the player still had a draftable grade
    • (Round 6 & 7) Player was evaluated and did not have a draftable grade
    Massive Reach (Red)
    • (Round 4 & 5 only) Team took a player who did not have a draftable grade OR reached multiple rounds while passing on several better options for the position

Thank you for speaking the truth on QJ, he is a classic example of a player who was drafted with unfair expectations and misunderstood talent. If he got the chance to play a role like Rashee Rice did with the Chiefs, he would’ve excelled.

Telesco drafted a project in the 1st rd when they were in win now mode which makes no sense. He passed on Flowers, Addison, LaPorta, & Kincaid. QJ seems to lack the play strength & hands to be a very productive receiver, but I hope he proves me wrong!

Personally, I would have labelled Glaze as a slight reach, and JPJ, Eichenberg and Taylor as steals, but those are small quibbles.

Sean Payton historically has had a lot of contrary opinions to the concensus opinion in regards to QBs, and with how much he values the ability to play within structure, it’s not super surprising that he loved Nix, especially over Jayden and McCarthy who’s value wasn’t necessarily in their ability to play on time and in rhythm.

@@PlaySA Preciate your input, but might want to look at TFG's response to me before responding yourself. He had put Bo Nix to the Broncos in his own mock drafts for the last few months and stated it would be a fantastic fit because Bo Nix has a lot of Drew Brees-type qualities and Sean Payton could work with that. I am not pulling anything out of my ass.

Bo Nix could turn out to be the best QB in this year's class. It's too soon to know - but don't sleep on Nix. He's extremely accurate, makes good decisions, has plenty of athletic ability, and has a stronger arm than people think. I have been surprised -- watching his games -- how good he really is. Look at the numbers. His stats improved every year in collage.

I know. As soon as they got Bowers I was thinking "okay, with Wilkins _AND_ Crosby, this will be intimidating. But by itself it won't score points."
But [aired with JPJ on the line & 2-TE sets that can help Davante get free now they have the ability to sustain drives consistently as well? With _that,_ the pairing of Wilkins & Crosby's gonna give opposing DCs & HCs _fits!_ Also ulcers.
We're getting ahead of ourselves but still, Wilkins, JPJ, Bowers are all Impact Players added to a roster that didn't seem impressive yet won games they shouldn't have last season. Herbert is gonna be sacked, Bo Nix possibly demolished. & Mahomes....
      Mahomes'll be okay.

    • @Ruderickle2424
      @Ruderickle2424 Месяц назад

@@choosecarefully408 we simply built on our strengths, which is exactly what I've been wanting!
Our D-line bout to be a monster. And offensively we're gonna grind it out, short/intermediate throws all game long but with the occasional deep pass to any one of our receivers.
QBs don't have to be superman, so as long as they game manage and keep drives moving we're gonna eattt that clock while coming away with points.

    • @choosecarefully408
      @choosecarefully408 Месяц назад +1

@@Ruderickle2424 Right, I forgot to say that about the QB situation. Having a Clear #1 like Mahomes in the league skews how people perceive the position. Stroud's rookie season didn't help. It's hard to see Mahomes then look at AOC & think "he's alright."
But with this roster? & nothing in AOC's rookie season screams bust. But I won't assume anything about the play-calling.
See, this is an area I find that most fans assume too much about & then ignore. The Eagles went from being True Contenders to a laughing stock with most of the same roster due just to play-calling & yet everyone is trying not to speak about it. I have only One Video speaking about how the terrible play-calling for the Chargers neutered Herbert but Kellen Moore has actual fans & even if I link this video, they go into denial.
People see coaches as authority figures & get viscerally uncomfortable discussing when they're bad. This is why it's hard to get rid of Josh McD, right? But also we assume they'll do what's best for their teams.
      Not in the NFL.
Only _rarely_ do you get an Ejiro Evero or Sean McVay where their coaching meets the team's needs. Even Andy Reid's style has out an unnecessarily low ceiling on every QB he's had (except Mahomes) that has lost him many games. So while I'm excited for the potential I see, I'm taking a wait & see stance on the season.
After all, I _keep pointing out that_ if you watch Fields' highlight reels, you can *_see_* a change from '21 to '22. While Nagy wasn't good he wasn't _intentionally_ calling plays known to fail while cancelling successful ones.
See what I mean? The designed QB rushes made the Bears the #1 offense for 3 weeks straight before they acquired D.J. Moore. In a league with Allen, Mahomes, Jackson & Burrow & an élite WR *trio,* Fields made the Bears the #1 offense without an o-line or receiving corps. & no coach on the team got criticized for cancelling what worked.
We need to hold coaches more accountable.

Now he has D. Adams, Jakobi Meyers, speedy slot guys and the two top rated TEs from the last 2 drafts lol.
Not to mention the Raiders defense was the #1 scoring defense with Antonio Pierce. Meanwhile the Colts defense routinely gave up 20-30+ points a game.
Raiders are a playoff team without McDipshit and if we weren't forced to start a 4th Rd rookie.

I don't know enough about Quinton Johnson to really have a take on that, but as a Commanders fan I would say Marcus got attached to his take on Dyami Brown. The reality is he is just a fourth or fifth receiver. He probably has the talent to be more if he were highly motivated, but he is kind of laid back. For example, when Carson Wentz organized an offseasaon QB/Receiver workout at his home two years ago, all the receivers were there except for Brown and beat reporters have indicated Brown is a little non-chalant in how he practices. Marcus always seems to think if he is just given a chance he'll prove to be a number 2 receiver in the NFL, but the reality, while he may have that ceiling, he may not have the personality to hit his ceiling.
I would say one thing that Marcus probably underplays both in the NFL and in the draft is personality. There may have been a reason Brown dropped to the third round in the first place.

This was my most anticipated one and I just want to say I agree each of these teams nailed the draft. At 13 with 6 qbs already gone I am actually gonna agree with Telesco in saying that none of the qbs on the board the rest of the draft would be significant enough upgrades to warrant drafting them. Not Rattler not Travis not Milton like there's no need to waste a pick on a reach when you're clearly trying to build up the roster so that when a qb comes in the transition is smooth. And yet I don't even think this is a bad team or qb room. Minshew when surrounded by awesome talent like he is now can thrive he showed a lot of starter ability last year and almost took the Colts to the playoffs. Not saying it's perfect but just like the 9 years of Carr, he's a qb you can win with and at best because of on occasion. But he needs the roster and I think even if it's not this season, this team is clearly being set up for sustained success in the future.
    Overall draft wise:
Bowers is a nightmare who's gonna finish in the top 5 for offensive rookie of the year I think just as a versatile weapon not even a tight end lets kill that position name he's gonna be a thorn in your side and you're sitting here doubling davante and meyers and going well wtf he just torched our linebacker for a 20 yard gain off a screen pass?
JPJ: Big animalistic hard nose badass who's gonna add an element of power to this offense we just haven't had since the Hudson, Brown, Gabe Jackson days a few years ago and I see him as easily the best IOL player in the class
DJ Glaze: Good run blocker with a better anchor in pass pro than I think some give him credit for all he has to do is narrow his hand placement and not bite so hard on outside moves which expose him to finesse rushers cutting back inside for easy pressure but overall as a pass blocker he was one of the highest graded olineman in that sense last year
DRich: Lengthy athletic freak with fluid hips and a guy who's gonna play in this zone heavy get the big play or the tackle fuck the bend dont break shit system that Graham has created while having interior pressure be such a necessity to make the dbs life easier he's gonna thrive and develop quickly into maybe our outside cb1 if he can pick up man coverage concepts better and develop certain instincts to make plays on the ball
Eichenberg: Like TFG said a very high floor potential replacement to Spillaine eventually but for now he's our Sam linebacker he's gonna be a Perryman clone I feel as just this smaller but very instinctual powerful run stopper
Laube: I drafted this dude in like the 3rd round of my dynasty league this year because I feel his upside is Ekler like. He's got a bit of power which is gonna help him run inside if he has to but the after the catch ability and ability to make the catch is immense and he's arguably one of the best recieving backs in the class and I think him and Zamir make a wonderful thunder and lightning combo
Trey Taylor: ideal size at safety, familial ties, good bloodline in the league obviously but I feel military school guys get slept on this guys is uber smart very athletic can be a leader I mean ffs he played for a military team who better to be an eventual leader and possibly a weapon epps replacement?
MJ Devonshire: despite sounding like hes from the Shire and at times looking like a hobbit out there he's got great ball instincts he's a solid athlete who's a competetor and I think an immediate Amik Robertson role replacement with potential to start eventually.
So overall I mean my personal grade through the lense of a fan is A- or B+ and grades they're not always accurate not every player works out but I think the top heavy near bust proof players really despite the shock value really set the tone for our draft by saying you know what we're gonna do, good luck trying to stop us. And I think the gameplan for the draft was simple but effective. No they didn't get a qb and I'm lowkey greatful because of it. No need to reach and ruin a great draft all because you really like Mccarthy. Why not wait and see what you have with AOC and much like AP himself said give this kid a full offseason ota training camp etc with the 1st teamers with the best of the best and see how this kid can improve. And if he isn't willing to take a step further and be a capable starting qb like I feel he can be then your safety net is Gardner Minshew? Maybe I'm higher on the qb room than most but Minshew as your backup plan isn't bad.
If you're somehow still reading this college disortation of a post thank you go Raider Nation! Just felt like the perspective of a Raider fan would be appreciated on this one.

So not sure what you may want from these teams. You knock Denver a bit for going QB at 12 (they desperately needed one with only Stidham and Zach Wilson), and suggest the Broncos maybe should have gone in another direction in round 1 with blue chip talent like Bowers, and deal with the QB position later or next year. But then with the Raiders, they take your advice and you knock them a bit for ignoring QB at 13 and maybe not trading up for one, and taking the blue chip talent in Bowers instead, despite them actually having a capable starter already in Minshew. Seems like these 2 teams can't win. Both need franchise QB's, one took a swing on one, the other passed, and they both get knocked a bit one pick apart from each other.

    • @ThatFranchiseGuy
      @ThatFranchiseGuy  Месяц назад +2

Well they are both on different situations considering the Raiders signed a veteran and would have had to trade up for one of the top guys.
