Thanks for your thoughts. I am still using my 2013 iMac because Apple has not upgraded the 5k 27’ iMac. I almost bought the Studio display today but i agree it is just to expensive ($2300 for basic model here) Then I almost ordered the 4 port base 24” iMac for $1500 but really want 16G of memory. Still using a 2009 24” Cinema display as a second monitor and after watching your video strongly considering the 24” iMac.
I think it would pair well with the 24" cinema display, but I wonder if there might be a height difference since the iMac has a much larger chin. You'll probably also need some kind of adapter if you continue using the cinema display. You'll definitely appreciate the 16gb of ram and the speed improvements over the 2013 iMac.
That was most informative. The only thing that i would have liked you to talk about a bit more is the general functionality of the iMac with the LG, like how does it cope, does the M1 loose any of its rapid performance. I have the same LG paired with an ageing TrashCan and an iMac 24 base in another room. I was thinking of taking the Trashcan out of the setup and putting the iMac in its place. Anyone got any thoughts ?
Thanks Pete! I haven't noticed any performance hiccups in the couple weeks of using it, but I'll let you know.
Good stuff man it’s easy to fall into the idea that we should have a second monitor that is as good as the primary even though we should be more honest with ourselves and find that we don’t actually need the nicest thing

What do you think of using the M1 2021 24" imac and adding a 2020 27" imac together rather than the LG Ultrafine?
I was thinking of doing this..or will probably go studio display. Leaning on studio display, despite it's price lol.

I was actually thinking about doing a 2015 iMac as a secondary display, but the LG was a lot cheaper in the end. Sometimes you can find the LG on eBay for $500, but if you have the money go for the studio display.

Can I ask if there are any settings somewhere to define which programs open on the main or secondary screen? I ask as Photoshop always opens in full screen on the secondary monitor and when an additional dialog box opens, that is always on the primary (iMac 24”) and sometimes behind the program open on that?

Hi Question, how were you able to connect the iMac to the second display(LG or whatever monitor)? Is it only the thunderbolt cable from iMac and into the LG display?
Reason why is I was going to see if I can use the studio display as a second monitor to my 2020 intel iMac.
Thunderbolt cable. It should work with your 2020 iMac.

Good question. You’ll need a good gpu but I’m not sure if the 2020 iMac can handle it.
Very informative- thanks! Can i use my 2013 27” imac as a second monitor with the new m1 imac? I realize target display mode wont work, but wouldnt a thunderbolt cable with adapter still work? Or would I need Luna/Duet Display?
It won’t work unless you use the Luna display. There is a power supply you can buy but you would need to gut your iMac and buy the part for around $200. ruclips.net/video/0VXQu0fAc8s/видео.html
even though you have the 8gb Memory, you could always save yourself a few $$$ and buy yourself two lots of 16gb to take it up to 32gb and the hard drive to 1-2TB SSD (or even a 4TB SSD).. then you'll have no problems. I've recently Purchased a 2012-13 iMac myself with all the ports and I upgraded it from a 8gb Memory to a 16gb (x2 8gb) and from a 1TB HDD to a 1TB SSD (which will soon be upgraded to a 4TB SSD) making my iMac superfast. it also helps that I also use a Samsung T7 1TB SSD to edit all my videos (so my editing clips don't even touch the Internal Hard drive) good video though mate, Plus i subscribed as I also love Tech..
thanks for the video - I have an issue - I set the scale on my Mac to one size bigger than normal fonts. But is there a way on my attached Lenovo 4k display to independently increase that size it displays clean but font is 1/2 size of main apple monitor. I have tried all settings, changed fonts to 16, nothing works - ideas?

Agreed with 24" screen being perfect. After two 27"inch Macs I'm a lot happier with the 24" screen. Almost a perfect machine

Yo, this is a pretty good video overall, but you should really title the video more clearly! Name it something along the lines of "The best dual monitor setup for a 24-inch iMac (for me)" or "Why I don't use a larger primary monitor". Would definitely make it stick out more in the video recommendations!

A curved screen is fine as long as it’s not too big. The goal is to minimize the rotation of your neck.
Question pls. How did u connect this monitor to ur IMAC 24 M1? I've been told its nt possible to use the new Imacs as secondary screen or dual screen. Please share how you've managed to achieve this thank you.
Just use a thunderbolt cable. You can only connect one monitor to a M1 iMac or MacBook Air.
I really want a 34" ultra wide monitor to pair with my iMac! but they're just way more than the $20 I spent on this Samsung off offer up :)

How to set up a new iMAC on an old iMAC for dual monitor setup
you will need three items:
1. Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.
2. Apple Thunderbolt cable (2.0 m)
3. Keyboard for additional monitor.
Once your monitors are connected together, on the secondary keyboard press (command) (F2) at the same timeA

I just plug it in. In the settings you. Can choose your monitor. I chose lg ultrafine. I didn’t do any other calibration. Hope that answers your question :)

Yes, it would be helpful if you explained how to connect the two. I just bought a iMac 24 and want to use it as a extended monitor with my 2022 MacBook Pro. Best Buy told me I cannot use iMac 24 as a extended screen but can use AirPlay to mirror the screen on my MacBook (not what I want to do).

I had to use a thunderbolt cable for my setup. I think you would need a thunderbolt to hdmi

I’ve ordered an external monitor to use with my iMac 24in - it has both HDMI and USB-C ports, and comes with a USB-C to USB-C cables. Can you advise which type of adaptor or cable I need to purchase? Thunderbolt to USB-C?

Unfortunately no. You can only connect one external monitor.

Always get an odd number of monitors. Otherwise you will have an annoying bezel directly in the middle of a single screen. If you're using one computer, your choices are 1, 3, or 5.
I agree. I don't like having a bezel directly in front of me. That's why I use the second display off to the side.
