I am a 56 year old single mom as well. I just bought a piece of land real cheap in Tenessee and my 17 year old son are getting ready to build our tiny home. We will be living in a 3 room tent while we accomplish our goal. Good for you. I am really excited about our adventure. We move onto the property in 2 weeks.

Climbing up the stairs in your old age is risky, not to mention having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. She needs to at least build a rail.

My thought is would be wonderful to work on tiny home now. At age 60 and hubby 65 I worry if something should happen to either one of us. Something like this we could be covered .Also interested in one level tiny home . Preferably with a ramp That could fold up ànd down to get in ànd out of house. Bedroom on bottom floor. When we had our current MFH done on land. Every contractor wanted to do do stairs. (I said no knee's are shot.) What we did is hired some Mexican cement guys .Explained what I wanted .Then they did it. What ticked me off all the American contractors said it couldn't be done. They said I had to have stairs. They took dirt and sloped it up to doors. Making a walkway with cement over top .Then car port in front of house is sloped down from house towards street .So rain and snow drains away from property. Pretty much taking care of it self.

Amen! I love the home and I love your attitude. I don’t know my birth mother either. I’ve been divorced twice. The first one beat me up and tried to kill me and my son. The second one was just a cheater and a liar. I raised two kids, and I’m still raising my 11-year-old. My second son has autism and never takes any medication. He only eats organic foods and he’s a full-time college student. My oldest son wanted to know his dad and went to Colorado. He got beaten up there by his father and came back. I’ve now been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis. And a leg discrepancy. You just Gotta keep going. Love this video.
I am so sorry you endured this Trauma in your life. I was Physically, Mentally & Sexually Abused by my Mom's 1rst Husband from the age of 9 - 13 1/2 years old. My Mom knew about it & did nothing to stop it or protect me & my Brother from this Man. The 1rst day he walked into our home he beat me & my Brother with a Leather Belt & forced us to kneel on the kitchen floor for almost 4 hours, we were 6 & 5 years old when she married him & didn't tell us. She let him beat us while she laid in her Bedroom. I told him for several years I hate you. He somehow gained my trust & then Raped & Molested me then the day he moved out he had the nerve to say "Do you regret giving me your Cherry? After he asked me that my Memories went into my subconscious & came back with a Vengeance when I turned 25, I had a Major Anxiety Attack while driving back to work. I met & married a guy my Brother told me not to get involved with & we moved 30+ miles away from our Families. He Mentally Abused me, cheated on me, gave me Claumidia 4 times & the worst was when i caught him & my ex best Friend having Sex while I was in her apartment. I finally got the courage to tell him to move out & I divorced him after 10 years, it took years of Therapy before I could trust another man. It took 10+ years to accept myself for who I was regardless of what I looked like. I am 5'1 & weighed 97 lbs before I had my 2 boys. The most I gained was from my 1rst pregnancy I gained 65 lbs. After my 2nd Son was born I went down to 125 lbs. My Ex Husband told me I was fat, ugly, all scared up (Stretch Marks) & nobody would ever want me. I had 3 serious Relationships with 3 men after my divorce & it was the 2nd man who told me that I was Beautiful & I shouldn't be Ashamed of my body. He didn't have nor want any children or his own & treated my boys as if they were his. He is the 1 besides my Therapist who pulled me up & I wasn't Ashamed of myself anymore. Unfortunately after his Mother got real sick we decided that he needed to spend any time he had with her. I am single now & I am ok with it. It's Amazing how someone Can Abuse you we ith Words or Beating another person because they have no Confidence in themselves. No kidding Shari B. I thought it was just me! I think we should pool our resources (ALL of us) buy some land in various places in the US, and sell spaces like an RV park for tiny houses. There is an RV park in Arizona that is owned by women. Each woman owns her own space, there is a guard at the front gate. Men are allowed in the park...BF, husband, father, brother, son...but ONLY as the guest of the woman owner. Men are not ever allowed to stay overnight without the woman owner. The park sold out in record time and the group of women (I think it is women RV club) bought another park. It would work for tiny houses too! Not only a great idea...but INCOME. I would put my bastard tile in the bathroom behind the toilet though....not in the kitchen where I spend most of my time.

So awesome this tiny house! Solo mom here as well, 52 but have 2 'left hands' as we say here in The Netherlands. Tried enough DIY to know I have no skills in that area. Will be an empty nester in about 6 years. I love this woman's sense of humor, outlook on life, and thinking ahead for retirement. I especially appreciate that shares her story of hardships. I'm a criminal justice major and for an elective I have social work class. We just watched videos on adoption and the foster system. The government (state and federal) keep cutting funding for the foster kids, there are literally no programs set up to help them when they age out of the system which sets them up for homeless, addiction, mental health issues, and jail to name a few. I love her positive outlook and her strength to keep pushing through. I love the creative ways she came up with to fund building her house. Now she has something no one can take away from her! This is by far my favorite tiny house story/video. I hope she has success with the tiny houses she wants to rent out for income!

I can completely relate to her!!! She was telling the history of my life. Married twice and divorced twice too, I’m 54 years young and lost my house through my last divorce. I bought a property but people took advantage of me, now I’m living pay check to pay Check, struggling to make payments to utilities! I didn’t save nothing for retirement. I was planning to live in this place that I bought but... it has more problems and in order to continue living here I have to fix what is broken!!! I wish I can do what you did!!! I’m still working but with a lot of pain! I have MS and disc degenerative and a condition that I have to spend most of my money on medication, Bless you!!!!

I've been watching tiny house videos for a few years now and this one is the most honest and realistic one thus far! I plan to do the same things- get a piece of land, live and rent out tiny homes. Currently, I am living in art studios. It is the only way I can save. At first I had no choice to live this way but now I cannot imagine paying $1000 - $1500 per month on rent. If I had a van or access to a car, I would totally take the furniture people throw away on craigslist, redo it and resale. The beautiful furniture people throw away is tragic. I'm so good, I can up-cycle any piece no matter how bad it is and conform to a new piece. You will never know it was an old cat destroyed couch with old cushions and bottom ripped out or a piece of furniture made modern. I wish Michelle well and look forward to listening to her podcast.
Amen on the living room! 95% of the tiny homes I have seen online have the boxes with cushions on them. So shallow with no stretch out room! Good plan to make your home comfortable for you. Loved your comment about the width of your stairs too. Too funny yet very honest and real!

Amen! I love the home and I love your attitude. I don’t know my birth mother either. I’ve been divorced twice. The first one beat me up and tried to kill me and my son. The second one was just a cheater and a liar. I raised two kids, and I’m still raising my 11-year-old. My second son has autism and never takes any medication. He only eats organic foods and he’s a full-time college student. My oldest son wanted to know his dad and went to Colorado. He got beaten up there by his father and came back. I’ve now been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis. And a leg discrepancy. You just Gotta keep going. Love this video.
I am so sorry you endured this Trauma in your life. I was Physically, Mentally & Sexually Abused by my Mom's 1rst Husband from the age of 9 - 13 1/2 years old. My Mom knew about it & did nothing to stop it or protect me & my Brother from this Man. The 1rst day he walked into our home he beat me & my Brother with a Leather Belt & forced us to kneel on the kitchen floor for almost 4 hours, we were 6 & 5 years old when she married him & didn't tell us. She let him beat us while she laid in her Bedroom. I told him for several years I hate you. He somehow gained my trust & then Raped & Molested me then the day he moved out he had the nerve to say "Do you regret giving me your Cherry? After he asked me that my Memories went into my subconscious & came back with a Vengeance when I turned 25, I had a Major Anxiety Attack while driving back to work. I met & married a guy my Brother told me not to get involved with & we moved 30+ miles away from our Families. He Mentally Abused me, cheated on me, gave me Claumidia 4 times & the worst was when i caught him & my ex best Friend having Sex while I was in her apartment. I finally got the courage to tell him to move out & I divorced him after 10 years, it took years of Therapy before I could trust another man. It took 10+ years to accept myself for who I was regardless of what I looked like. I am 5'1 & weighed 97 lbs before I had my 2 boys. The most I gained was from my 1rst pregnancy I gained 65 lbs. After my 2nd Son was born I went down to 125 lbs. My Ex Husband told me I was fat, ugly, all scared up (Stretch Marks) & nobody would ever want me. I had 3 serious Relationships with 3 men after my divorce & it was the 2nd man who told me that I was Beautiful & I shouldn't be Ashamed of my body. He didn't have nor want any children or his own & treated my boys as if they were his. He is the 1 besides my Therapist who pulled me up & I wasn't Ashamed of myself anymore. Unfortunately after his Mother got real sick we decided that he needed to spend any time he had with her. I am single now & I am ok with it. It's Amazing how someone Can Abuse you we ith Words or Beating another person because they have no Confidence in themselves.

No kidding Shari B. I thought it was just me! I think we should pool our resources (ALL of us) buy some land in various places in the US, and sell spaces like an RV park for tiny houses. There is an RV park in Arizona that is owned by women. Each woman owns her own space, there is a guard at the front gate. Men are allowed in the park...BF, husband, father, brother, son...but ONLY as the guest of the woman owner. Men are not ever allowed to stay overnight without the woman owner. The park sold out in record time and the group of women (I think it is women RV club) bought another park. It would work for tiny houses too! Not only a great idea...but INCOME. I would put my bastard tile in the bathroom behind the toilet though....not in the kitchen where I spend most of my time.

So awesome this tiny house! Solo mom here as well, 52 but have 2 'left hands' as we say here in The Netherlands. Tried enough DIY to know I have no skills in that area. Will be an empty nester in about 6 years. Showed my 14 yr old son this video and asked if he could help me build it together with his 13 yr old brother 😉 I can see myself living here in Amsterdam at the river in my own tiny house. ❤️

I love this woman's sense of humor, outlook on life, and thinking ahead for retirement. I especially appreciate that shares her story of hardships. I'm a criminal justice major and for an elective I have social work class. We just watched videos on adoption and the foster system. The government (state and federal) keep cutting funding for the foster kids, there are literally no programs set up to help them when they age out of the system which sets them up for homeless, addiction, mental health issues, and jail to name a few. I love her positive outlook and her strength to keep pushing through. I love the creative ways she came up with to fund building her house. Now she has something no one can take away from her! This is by far my favorite tiny house story/video. I hope she has success with the tiny houses she wants to rent out for income!

I bought a property but people took advantage of me, now I’m living pay check to pay Check, struggling to make payments to utilities! I didn’t save nothing for retirement. I was planning to live in this place that I bought but... it has more problems and in order to continue living here I have to fix what is broken!!!

I've been watching tiny house videos for a few years now and this one is the most honest and realistic one thus far! I plan to do the same things- get a piece of land, live and rent out tiny homes. Currently, I am living in art studios. It is the only way I can save. At first I had no choice to live this way but now I cannot imagine paying $1000 - $1500 per month on rent. If I had a van or access to a car, I would totally take the furniture people throw away on craigslist, redo it and resale. The beautiful furniture people throw away is tragic. I'm so good, I can up-cycle any piece no matter how bad it is and conform to a new piece. You will never know it was an old cat destroyed couch with old cushions and bottom ripped out or a piece of furniture made modern. I wish Michelle well and look forward to listening to her podcast.
Amen on the living room! 95% of the tiny homes I have seen online have the boxes with cushions on them. So shallow with no stretch out room! Good plan to make your home comfortable for you. Loved your comment about the width of your stairs too. Too funny yet very honest and real!
