  • For this young family, life in a tiny house is largely centred around a desire to live with a lighter footprint and do something good for the environment.

Going zero waste and cutting out single use plastics has been helped by living in a tiny house, where the small home makes the family more aware of their consumption. Mark, a Vegan chef has also leveraged debt free living in a tiny house to start his own plant based pop-up restaurant.

If you live in US?other moderncountries too? the city or nearby smalltowns, there still MANY small REFURBISHABLE/REMODEL small 750-1200sqft, 1 story 1950-70's homes you can buy cheap foreclosures/empty & more $ you can literally be off grid put up panels & small windgenerators. Water collect from roof, compost, garden your yard, redo roof/walls for lighting/sun heating. Some places allow raise chickens/rabbits goats fenced like dogs. Early 90's b4 this was a 'fad-thing' I saw silliness ofowning huge house space and waste. Bought a house for less than paying apt rent and started using the savings (screw landlords and bankers) to be more environmentally sound as I kept up with the tech & movement. Instead I intend to be a little old lady in a self sustaining OWNED home in the city next to downtown.

English Muffin Cloth nappies can easily go until baby is potty trained, but once baby is on solids, I imagine they will need a detergent to get rid of the smell. Also, my cloth nappies/ diapers would get a strong ammonia smell, we did use white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and sunshine but sometimes they NEED a proper detergent.

umma a Thankyou for replying, that is interesting, we would often have to strip our nappies but always had the same problem. The nappies I had were recommended to be washed at 60 degrees Celsius. My youngest is 9 now, I don’t need nappies for babies anymore, just reusable san pro for myself but this is good to know, if a friend has similar issues I can pass on your advice!

Sunshine and snow are fantastic for dealing with cloth nappies. Just scrape, soak and then cold wash with detergent....I liked grated sunlight soap, rinse well and hang out in the sun to dry.

I think that the "gotta have bigger/more" lifestyle soon proves to ALL the people that its a wrong way to live, but not all of those discover the better alternative. That is why we should teach by examle and show children that you can be in connection with nature and yourself, without the "rat race" part.

Whats in a name I get what u mean but a lot of those ex vegans were eating very unrealistic and or had digestive issues meaning it was difficult for them to process legumes so they’d be nutritionally lacking. Also many receive bad advice and do not so healthy things such as extensive water fasts, eating not enough calories and having mainly mono meals ( only eating papayas for a meal or just avocados or just mangos). While I thing the vegan diet can be done properly I don’t think there is enough good information out there and many influencers can mislead people. But I believe from the research I’ve done that a proper balanced vegan diet is far healthier than the standard western diet. But I don’t like when people preach and push their ideals on you. It scares people, including myself, away. They should just let people come to them if they want to learn.

How does this zero waste work with hygene, though? Toothpaste. Where do you buy unpackaged toothpaste? Shampoo, shower gel? Well, you could use soap, but I think he said they don't use soap or detergent. So how does their stuff get clean? And baby poops into the diapers, too. They just wash it down the sink? What will they do once the poop gets solid? No tissues or toilet paper allowed or are they allowed? How do you get poopy diapers clean without a detergent? Or have I heard that one wrong?

Beautiful family, beautiful home. They are happy and proud of what they have built, and they did it with practical foresight and good intentions. Many of the people featured in this series are the kinds of people I would wish to be friends and neighbors, including Bryce. Positive, responsible, humble, curious, determined, and always learning and growing.

I like the back to nature feel. I grew up in the deep woods on a mountain side, with creeks, ponds and even a waterfall that could only be reached by trail. Walking in the mountain and studying various creatures and plants never got boring. Now I look on Google Earth and see that the mountain is now covered with houses. My mountain is gone, and makes me very sad. It was so quiet and peaceful. The solitude made me strong for the future. I long to find a place like what I used to have and feel free again.

This place is truly amazing. The new little peanut, omg so tiny & adorable and WHAT a gift this home will be to her one day-- having the house she was actually BORN IN, wow, you can't beat that kind of home history!!👍🏻😄🏆
And the nursery is a wonderful space Alba can grow in to for years!
The deck and outdoor grounds are stunning & add to the whole asthetic!
It looks a good size inside for a small family. Definitely need a washer with a baby. I had twins decades ago, l couldn't believe how much laundry two tiny people only 5 lbs each could create lol!
Beautiful home n omg that little baby, so beautiful too!

"Debt free" isn't that hard if you can build on your parent's property. Not to say they are bad people or to criticize the way they do it, but I would like to see people who can live debt free in this world without heritage - that would be much more interesting!

I see that some folks were upset that this little family was living in the parents "back yard" and that they had "dad's" help in building their house. Family, living close together, helping each other, that's great. What parents wouldn't help their kids if they could. And your Grand baby is so close, I think that its great.

Hey there it would be so fantastic if on all your travels and seeing/experiencing these dwellings if your able to show the viewers all the systems gas, electricity, hot water, what appliances they find they really use the most of and why, and the water harvesting composting systems each of these homes have. Essentially these are the things that make it less of a carbon foot print, self sastainable living and more :). Thanks heaps for sharing this with us all. Much health love and light to ALL (gal from oz)

Love the house. Beautiful baby, Lots of good things. I do notice who speaks most often and how often mom looks away and purses her lips. You do know we are all whole creatures? We speak with our mouths most often, but so often the rest of us tells things we didn't necessarily ken.

Did you also notice how NOT into the whole ‘baby’ idea the husband was (except when he needed to make a ‘scene’ for the camera, and even then he could barely manage it)? My guess is the woman needed the baby for her own reasons, and it was NOT ‘planned’ and he was NOT pleased. What’s he going to do, though, right? He’s on the hook for the next 20 years no matter what. I don’t understand how so few people saw what I saw in this uncomfortably awkward interview. Maybe because I’m 55 years old and most of the commenters fawning all over this ‘darling family’ are 20?

Franktaku legality depends on jurisdiction, ie where you want it. How to build them varies by type, but there's tons of videos from builds with vans, campers, caves, treehouses, trailers etc... Good luck!

Franktaku That is something I am interested in also. I realize that it differs tremendously from location to location, but even highlighting that would be so interesting! In this case, because this Tiny House is located on his parents property, which seems to be on the large side, I guess it is just like having another out building?

    • @johndeveney3878
      @johndeveney3878 5 лет назад +2

Most of these homes are tagged as "RV's". You then fall under D.O.T. size and weight restrictions!
(Tiny homes only save you from building codes).
In the States, many tiny home owners are leasing land because it's illegal to riside in one. (camper, shed, bus) etc.
The real issue is getting domiciled! Anybody can "build" an out building or throw a school bus on a plot of land... as long as you don't claim it as a residence.
No thanks to the i.d. act post 911, it makes this lifestyle harder to obtain!
