In Game One of the 2004 ALDS, Johan Santana throws seven shutout innings at Yankee Stadium and the Twins win 2-0 on the power of a Jacque Jones home run.
October 5, 2004. On that date, this game was played. Today, the Minnesota Twins just lost the best of three Wild Card series against the Houston Astros. Making it their 18th straight loss in a Postseason game. I’m sure a ton of Twins fans miss good old 1991.
Think about how many opportunities the Yankees had to score in this game. That's the kind of stud Johan Santana was in his heyday, and the kind of pitcher the Twins have been missing since he left. It's a big reason why they haven't won a playoff game since.
We all know why we're here. The last time the Twins won a Playoff game. Since then, it's been 18 straight Playoff Losses. The last time my team won a Playoff Game was the year I was born.
0:11:42 - Almost start of game 0:13:18 - First pitch 0:41:07 - Stewart’s catch to get out Sierra 0:43:48 - Hunter’s catch and throw home to nab Posada 0:48:44 - Stewart’s RBI single 1:23:29 - Jones’ home run 1:54:41 - Sierra’s home run… or was it? 2:10:02 - Hunter’s catch to get out Rodríguez 2:27:30 - Nathan gets the save
This years twins (2019) remind me a lot of this team. Solid hitting depth 1-9 in the order, but nothing stellar beside a couple pitchers when it comes to the rotation and bullpen. I really hope the playoff result is different. I also hope we don’t play the Yankees
I used to wonder if the Yankees were intentionally throwing shade at Liza Minnelli by playing her version of "New York, New York" after a Yankees loss instead of Frank Sinatra's version which they would play after a Yankees win.
Twins won game 1, and were wining Game 2 in extra innings. If they Twins didn't give up their lead and lose the series, the Red Sox don't come back from 0-3 to beat the Yankees
everyone saying this was the last time the twins won a playoff game is officially wrong

The Twins' last postseason win until Game 1 of the 2023 AL Wild Card Series.
UPDATE: Today is October 3rd, 2023. The Twins finally won a playoff game again!!!!!!!!!!
Twins should have won this series. Games 2 and 4 were such heartbreaking losses.
Well Cuzzi flat out cheated in Game 2.
@@minnbeefwrong series. Cuzzi was in 2009
Fair. But he still cheated in 2009. @@andrewculbertson1079
Santana was a monster, absolutely incredible

Nice quality, thanks for posting!
After this Twins win against the Yankees, the Yankees would beat the Twins 13 consecutive playoff games 2004, 2009, 2010, 2017, and 2019.

The cynical Red Sox fan in me still can’t believe that October of 2004 belonged to the Red Sox!
Somewhere etched in stone "Twinkies will never beat th yankees"
